    Alex yet again another great informational video,agree with you on fly lines & why carry just 1,why I've gone to trout/mirco spey,1 shooting head & multiple tips,covers my day,question do you find that a certain color attracts more rainbows than browns ? curious on your thoughts & maybe a informational video in the future 🤙🇺🇸

      I haven't noticed as much rainbows or browns preferring a color. What I've noticed is that when the rainbows are biting, the browns aren't. Typically, I see that if a color is working for rainbows that when the browns turn on, they'll eat the same color. I think it has more to do with how the fish, in general, are seeing and interpreting a specific color that day. I think that changes with light and water color

      Thanks! I use the non slip loop knot. Bunch of videos and diagrams out there for it

    What sinking line would you recommend for a 9’ 6wt to get some unweighted streamers down on smaller streams? Would mostly wade fish with it. Have a 9’ 8wt with a 250g 24’ intermediate sink currently for the big meat.

      I typically run the Rio Premier sink tip in a 150 on my 6wt. The 200 grain will get it down better but it's pretty heavy on a 6. Thar being said, if you're making short casts it might not matter much. I would go super short on the leader to assist the fly getting down via the tip

    Good stuff Alex, I went out last week and we were moving fish in spots we don’t usually do. Shallow sandy stuff for some reason. What’s your setup for smaller streams? Will you go down to a rod smaller than 8’6?

      They like those slower flowing spots in the winter

      I've actually got an 8' 6wt that works pretty good. Hard to find em these days. I fished a lot of 8'6" rods years ago, never had an issue. I might run a floating line on a small river or just find an intermediate or short type 3 if possible. Not a ton of options on lines from what I've seen. I think they are gonna make that sa line in a 200gr which might b a bit much for a 6wt but will be perfect on a 7

      @@alexlafkasfishing Good deal, yeah 8ft 6 wt would be the perfect setup for the stuff I typically do, might have to overline a 6 wt with that SA line it looks like good stuff for close conditions

    What are the general recommendations for winter trout streamers from size and color perspectives in Michigan?

    • @alexlafkasfishing
      @alexlafkasfishing  9 дней назад +2

      I run mostly olive, black and ginger or tan. I believe the majority of the forage base is sculpin and leeches so I stick to those colors. I'll fish anywhere from an inch to 5 or 6 inches depending on the size river I'm fishing
