Along with songs like Cries and Whispers,
this is probably one of the most underrated songs of the 1981-1983 era. I would consider this the song that would become Blue Monday before Blue Monday was even a thought. The super slick, distinct bass sequence is so memorable to me. The first time I heard it was in 2017, it was the soundcheck for the Ace Brixton gig in March 1983. I wish more people would discuss this song, it's a fucking gem!

Hurt is actually my fav of their intial triptych electronic tracks (Temptation, EGG, Hurt) and its a shame they dropped it so early in their career. I also remember reading a interview with Stephen Morris saying that Hurt was his fav track of the Movement-era and if he could resurrect a track it would be that one

New Order at their absolute live peak, between March and June 1982. This recording doesn't do them justice but they were on fire during this European tour. The peak for me was the Italian tour - a country where they went down a storm, although they took the (typically) perverse decision never to tour there again in the 80s).
The longest version of Hurt they ever played.
What a pity the remnants of the band have split into what are now essentially two cabaret acts. Ironically, Hooky's vocals have become less difficult to stomach than Barney's (although it's still a difficult listen and watch - I mean, what look is he going for, a man of his age punching the air shouting "come ooonnn!!!" to Love Will Tear Us Apart?).
