Hey Spectacular! - I tried this with a couple silver rounds and really liked the results! I also reversed the process with aluminum foil, warm salty water and baking soda. Really cool to watch the toning evaporate before your eyes. 👍😀
@MrSting17 I had never heard of "Liver of Sulfur". Watched a couple of videos on it and learned something new. Thanks. 😀 Also, I think you are right, that LOS toning is probably permanent.
Just about all of that stuff has been manipulated by human touch. Here’s what’s funny.. “artificially toned” .. why is using sulphur artificial? Is it because it’s not over a longer time? I think the wording should be “purposely toned”
Dude!!!! This is an amazing video. I've always wondered how I could tone beautiful coins. Now I know how to. Gem of an informational tip. Thanks so much for this.
Tried this with one of my Morgans. After the first day it had turned the coin gray. Put in a fresh egg, and left the container in a spot with better light, the next day it had just turned a darker gray. No other signs of color or toning. Coin was kept in an airtight container
I wonder how many people on eBay are selling fake toned silver Morgan's or other types of silver coins! Even worse, I wonder how many people are buying fake Morgan's at a higher price thinking they are naturally toned! Paying all that extra money for something that cost less than a dollar!
Tons. If you look at their other items and everything is toned then you can be pretty sure. Now tho, like the other gentleman said, it's not necessarily a fake tone. You can even argue it happened naturally as eggs are from nature lol. But I do believe it's frowned upon. I dunno, some people just like a good looking tone, regardless of how it occurred.
I just looked at eBay Germany and found 2 obv artificial toned coins from 1900. The guy sold two normally worth 30 dollar for 200 each. But his reputation is now crushed.
After I researched the cause of what causes toning in silver and copper (sulphur), I began to learn what types of things cause it within our homes. Sulphur in paper, in the area from cooking (and other things...).
How about if you have a silver coin that has a natural brown tone? But barely has blue and red showing. Is it ok to chamber such a coin with the eggs for just 30 minutes say? To encourage the natural tone to be decomposing once again.
I found a method that works better than this, Nair body hair removal cream and shavings from a standard soap bar, into a Ziploc bag and slosh it around. Throw coin in and slosh coin around in the mix and then soak the sealed bag in really hot or just boiled water. Take it out and move it around every 30 seconds or so and after a couple minutes your coin will be looking more rainbow than you expect it will.
I would say it does. People like myself want it as close to BU condition as possible; however, there are people who love toned looking coins. It's all relative.
if you're just doing it to generic rounds and/or bars who's only value is in the metal content, then it should not negative affect the value. it will always hold the value of that 1 ounce of silver. however, if the toning is cool enough, you might be able to get a small premium on it. but like the guy in the video said, i would NOT do this to any rare or extremely valuable coins.
@@Spegtacular I wanted to tone a favourite coin, I don’t want to strip it off, I was just curious after you used the egg method if you just clean it in water and then dry to keep the toning on, I want a pretty toned roo 😅. I also wanted to know if I can then keep it encapsulated near other coins safely ?
I like toned Morgans but that's about it. I guess I'm just an untoned guy. Too much sit down time for me I suppose. Wait! This is about coin toning isn't it? Yeah I like my silver to shine. Nice video though. Thanks.
Nothing. It’s based off of length of time and amount of sulphur so black means the desired effect is there but the time is likely a bit long. I’d also not recommend doing this to numismatics.
With a little hot water and baking soda, you can remove toning from silver.
I wonder what happens to the milk spots when you do that. It would be ground breaking if they disappeared as well.

Lime and backing soda are great cleaners too. You can use the lime as a scrub
Funny thing happened, my silver coin only turned full black.
Should I use another egg or repeat the process with a shiny silver coin
Incredible, the kid watched that w me and is all like ‘we got eggs!! We got silver!! . . . . When?!?!’
🤣🤣😅
Lol time to experiment!
Dude.... This was an absolutely Spegtacular video!!! Wow, I'm so going to try this. Toner Tuesday!
I can’t wait 😊
I opened my egg container, and ate my silver.
Woah... be ready to turn into a nice silvery color.
4 years later and watching you Rawdog your coins STILL hurts!
makes me rethink alot of those toned coins ive seen! awesome spegf

@@Spegtacular good point. How can an expert differentiate artificial and not..I suppose the more deeper colors are an indication.
Why peel it like your eating it? Smash the shell and all ..more sulphur, faster results
Pretty cool but I like shiny coins and bar's. Happy Thanksgiving.
Mark my friend, Hi! I still have stickers for your daughters, send me your address.❤❤❤👵
The Aztec round looks great!
Dude!!!! This is an amazing video. I've always wondered how I could tone beautiful coins. Now I know how to. Gem of an informational tip. Thanks so much for this.
Holy cow.
I never knew this.
Good little project to show my grandson.😊
I didnt know people did that to their silver. To me it just makes the coin look like it hasnt been taken care of.
Man, I wonder what the inside of our bodies look like after Thanksgiving egg salad 🤔
Looks like mush. Rainbow mush😋
Deviled eggs scare me
The inside of our bodies aren't made of fine silver.
That's an easy way to get toning! Thanks for sharing but the toning didn't come out evenly but still a nice experiment to do!!
Interesting. I am going to give this a try soon! Thanks 😃
Pretty cool tried it on some generic buffalos. Workd quite fast👍
Eggscellent video! I shell try this cracking idea myself :)
You’re a good yolk. We don’t have to walk on eggshells around you . I can see it in the whites of your eyes.
I'm Thankful for a nice well toned SpegTacular video😂🍻 HAPPY THANKSGIVING BUDDY
Happy Thanksgiving!
Gently touch the high surfaces with a white eraser. Gives it a more realistic look.
Thank you sir imma try this on my silver eagle now
Man you broke my heart when you said grading company will notice it was done at the house haha. Is there a way I can do it without hem noticing?
That's pretty spegtacular
That's awesome! I'm definitely trying this! Great vid:)

Very informative video but now I have to question the true value of toning on coins.
I wonder how many people on eBay are selling fake toned silver Morgan's or other types of silver coins! Even worse, I wonder how many people are buying fake Morgan's at a higher price thinking they are naturally toned! Paying all that extra money for something that cost less than a dollar!
Its not Fake, regular toning causes my sulfur...just with the egg it is accelerated. Now other toning by other chemical means are different

Hi Neat to see process but nothing I would ever do to my coins. Thanks, Bill
I wouldn’t do this to coins either.. and I didn’t do that in this video.
I googled how to tone silver coins and you popped right up...I knew I should’ve just checked your video list. 👍👍
Glad I could help
@@Spegtacular but you said no coins so....my milky Maple Leaves will be left Alone. I’ll definitely try it with some rounds. 👍👋
If I want more toning on an AU-58+ 1893-S Morgan Dollar, should I use a turkey egg ? 🦃🥚🦃
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the community !!!
Awesome stuff speg. Happy Thanksgiving buddy.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
I'm not much for toning but those look nice
nice process.
Happy thanksgiving to all. happy turkey day.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks. I have a set of silver Legos that are boring. I have them sitting on a shelf trying to tone them. This should do trick much faster.
Dude that is awesome. I learned something today and thanks brother. 😃👍
Wow! That’s crazy cool. Thanks for sharing!
Sweet, now do it on you enhanced reverse proof! :)
They’re gone :)
If you do it properly, there's no way to determine the coin was toned artificially.
That's what people don't tell you
Now do it with the egg yoke only. You are welcome
Google says that the sulphur content is actually slightly higher in the white, but there is sulphur throughout.
This is eggzactly what I was looking for!
😳😂
I’m gonna try that ! I have some sulfur. Big fan from South Georgia!! Thanks
I love South Georgia!
Think i willtry this. First on a round. Maybe a coin later if I am happy with result. Good information. Thanks for the share.
I just looked at eBay Germany and found 2 obv artificial toned coins from 1900.
The guy sold two normally worth 30 dollar for 200 each.
But his reputation is now crushed.
Why is his reputation crushed? Did the customer not get what he paid for the price he agreed to pay? What's the problem?
I love eggs
I just leave change in my car, and they always have rainbow toning after a while!
i'm going to try this on some generic rounds!
Florida eggs tone differently. 😂
Can you make egg salad after the toning that would be spectacular
Yes! And its good for you. Antimicrobial.
That's pretty cool... But how in the heck did you know this?!?!?! LOL!! Happy Thanksgiving Stackers!!

SpegTacular - Freakin BRILLIANT!!
😂😂😂🤓🤓🤓
I’m gonna try it on a cull Morgan!!
Awesome tutorial, thank you
Happy Thanksgiving Speg and the stackers,im going to have to try that out on my Morgans i think JK lol
Nooooooo not the Morgans!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Can you just leave the shell on and smash everything or does it need to be peeled and discarded?
How about if you have a silver coin that has a natural brown tone? But barely has blue and red showing. Is it ok to chamber such a coin with the eggs for just 30 minutes say? To encourage the natural tone to be decomposing once again.
How long dose it take ?
THANKS A LOT IT WORKED!
thats freakin awesome! sweet vid
spEGGtacular idea!
Ok so I'm assuming the tone rubs off easily?
Will they continue to tone a bit after you remove them from the sulfur exposure?
Likely as not 100% of that exposure has been removed simply by removing it and/or washing it.
Super simple
Good for bars
I found a method that works better than this, Nair body hair removal cream and shavings from a standard soap bar, into a Ziploc bag and slosh it around.

Mmm, silver and egg salad.
Very cool. Do you think it affects the value?
I would say it does. People like myself want it as close to BU condition as possible; however, there are people who love toned looking coins. It's all relative.
Just like Alex said. There’s two sides to the coin and two sides to a collector.
Buy two, one for investment and another as a jewelry piece.
if you're just doing it to generic rounds and/or bars who's only value is in the metal content, then it should not negative affect the value. it will always hold the value of that 1 ounce of silver. however, if the toning is cool enough, you might be able to get a small premium on it. but like the guy in the video said, i would NOT do this to any rare or extremely valuable coins.
very cool did not know that you can do this
Where'd you get the Aztec coin? I love the calendar
That was from monument metals I believe
Yesss
Try Garlic loaded w sulfur
Do you wash the coin after in water and pat dry ? Is it safe to put near other coins after ?
Dip it in a mixture of baking soda and water to stop the toning process

what can also be done with nickel coins?
I just kept my coin in my wallet, I guess my gas did all the work
Tried this and got some awesome colours on a 2013 Maple!
Hi, does this work on 90% Morgan’s and dimes?
Trying for the first time. Hope it turns out good
Any luck?
What about a pickled egg?
Will it work on copper rounds.?
Speck und Ei-takulär (german for bacon 'n egg)
So how do coins "naturally" tone? Do you just leave them out in the air for years?
Years possibly but the amount of sulphur they’re exposed to is the key. It could literally be seconds of exposure
There's crazy cool.
Do we need to use the full egg or just the yellow portion @spegTacular
I use the full egg. The yolk though is where your sulphur really exists. That being said, you won’t go wrong with a full egg.
Excellent
Science has come a long way lol.
You can eat an egg silver sandwich when you're done. Silver salad sandwich? Egg salad silverwich? I'm done.
You drive a hard bargain sir.. but I think I’ll eat it!

Is this what they call “ natural toning “?
Nice. I did same thing.
Can u also specify the time taken @spegTacular
Begins to work in minutes and will look nice after 30 minutes or more.
If its sulphur that’s causing this, wouldnt an onion do the same thing?
Whatever has sulphur in it will cause this effect. The more available sulphur that’s exposed will cause an increased effect.
My coin got black or purple 😆 Lol 😂.
Is this type of toning harmful to coins?
Yes
Awesome
not work to me,
Speg, dont send it to Yankee he will clean it ;-)
Cool.😀
i like the silver coin😭😭
That's sweet Speg!!
does the egg have to be hot?
No just fresh.
@@Spegtacular can the egg be cold?
@@Spegtacular also my coin just turned black what am I doing wrong
Nothing. It’s based off of length of time and amount of sulphur so black means the desired effect is there but the time is likely a bit long.
I’d also not recommend doing this to numismatics.
@@Spegtacular so if it turns black that means it was in there to long?
Wow super 👋👋👋 like 👍
Cool video, but I prefer leaving my silver to stay in its natural state, whatever that may be.
Buried in the earth within rocks?
@@listerofsmeg6452 yes, i take it back to the silver mine and put it back in the ground.
😊👍
You know toning is damage to a coin right?
You know you have to watch the whole video right?
