Thank you so much for this video Sejal! I am 5'1, and never really felt bad about this until I reached college. I've seen the 5'6 height requirement for Beauty Pageants and I remember it crushing me, even though I never really wanted to apply. It just made me feel less beautiful, and inferior to taller girls. It didn't help that I was a teenager and was surrounded by people who fed on these insecurities too. This needs to change!

      I'm 5'0,22 and I recentlywon a pageant
Beauty pageants are changing and are more inclusive. Height is based on genetic factors and there's no reason to be ashamed of it. I walked the ramp with models who were far taller than me.

I am sooo glad that someone out there(Sejal ❤️) has the courage to speak up about the hidden, dark stuff suffered by most of the youth... being judged on looks and stuff all the time. Becoming self conscious and anxious about our body is so traumatic. I love this series "shutup Sejal".... please never shut up Sejal ♥️🥺!!!! Love you! 😍♥️☺️❣️

I agree with every point you mentioned,we as a society NEED to change the beauty standards.
Honestly ,I never really understood the concept of these beauty pageant and their criteria of choosing. They select girls merely on the basis of physical appearance rather than the entire personality. These pageants also set unrealistic and UNREQUIRED beauty standards for girls as if the society is not enough to make them feel insecure. They give more importance to vanity rather than the ambition to bring a change in the society and henceforth those only qualify who fulfill their criteria of "beautiful" and those with actual purpose and calibre or who wish to bring a positive change through their position are eliminated in the initial rounds or maybe never make it to these pagents just because they don't fullfill those discriminatory standards.
This was a small step towards that and I truly hope that we as a society give much more importance to knowledge and overall personality rather than physical appearance.
KUDOS to you for speaking up!👏

Hey Sejal I've been following you for years now and I've always loved your content but this video hit different. I remember seeing the news recently about Miss universe and wondering how beauty pageants really impact us. I'm hardly 5'4" and I've been insecure about my height because of some arbitrary standard which states that tall girls are prettier. Judging people in their features is just bizarre and hurtful and comparison only makes people feel bad about themselves. Thank you for making this video. A lot of girls (including me) needed this. It's like speaking to a friend and collectively realising how we're beautiful as we are and we don't need a pageant or outside validation to support that. This video just makes me admire you so much.. ❤️

This made me so emotional. I am in my 30s and lately getting extremely conscious about the way I look. There are things that can always be worked on but when you look at it from the vision of a 3rd person, you lose all your motivation to even get up and take a step. Hope world would soon work on themselves because of themselves and not because how the others want them to behave/look.

There is SO much more to life than looks. I feel lucky to have gotten out of this early enough in life. To any young girls reading this. Remember that there is so much to experience in life. Do NOT base your self worth on something you were born with whether it be "good" or "bad". Base your self worth on skills instead. Spend time learning what you love doing. Something that brings you joy beyond imagination. Trust me, you'll become best friends with life. you won't want to go back to a shallow lifestyle. I have learnt this the hard way but I'm so glad I did because there's no going back. :)

@@jojo-dv3uy agreed. That's true to a certain extent. But if you have talent, you can get even more privilege and respect. Maybe if you want to be an actress or model, the journey might be tougher for those without looks. But for other fields, confidence and talent trumps everything else. And I've noticed, that people who are confident start looking 100x better than how they would look otherwise.

@@lavanyam2892 the first thing people notice about you is the beauty tbh things like talent personality comes only after a duration of time but i think beauty can buy those chances and time. for example if someone if 80%beauty +50% talent i think she will get more chances and opportunities in life as compared to someone with 30% brain+50% talent.i am not talking about job sector .but social life depends to a great extent on it.an beautiful introvert will have lot more friends as compared to an ugly introvert

    • @lavanyam2892
      @lavanyam2892 2 года назад

@@jojo-dv3uy I understand your point. It definitely makes sense. But long term, it doesn't matter no. There are so many examples for it. So many people are known for their personality vs exterior looks. The best example is Dhanush. When I saw him for the first time, I was like ew. But then he looks so damn handsome to me now. Like you said, yes it may snatch some opportunities from you. But trust me, it just means better opportunities are waiting for you. But. Long term, you will get what you want no matter what. And about friends. I'm an introvert. I'm not too bothered about the number of friends I have. Deeper connections are definitely forged more because of character than looks. And what is ugly anyway? Honestly, I really haven't seen anyone who repels me with their appearance. Im sure a lot more people are like this than you think. Okay, maybe in pageants and "beauty" related industries people are different and I think that's a very sad thing.

Sejal, you and I did that pageant together at a fest for the first time in 1st or 2nd year college, I remember! And we hadn't got selected then. And I had asked for feedback and this is what I was told- The winning girl chose a dress that suited her better. That it was bodycon, while mine was a soft skater. And apparently, her dress "highlighted her body better". And I was...shocked! I don't recall our pageant question answer round in detail but I do remember having a good walk like you and getting huge applause after answering my question!
But it seemed that the winner's dress was more important than walk or wit.
A year later I got selected and did the pageant again. You did it a year after me I think! Like you said, what stuck out was wearing a bikini and walking infront of all those judges hald of whom were men I didn't even know. So vulnerable. Do you remember how mean and scary our male mentor used to be? The short guy. Won't take names but it I think you know who I mean :P I remember he made another contestant in my batch, run up and down the stairs (and rewarded her with effing biscuits when she did) because he wanted her to lose weight. How is she supposed to get the ideal body by running on stairs in a week?! God.
There was that fancy dinner they 'treated' us to, before the finale and they'd served biriyani. The mentors watched us eat with hawk eyes, glares and disapproving looks if anyone dared take a second helping. I took three helpings just to piss them off! 😂
I am half way into your video and I realise we had the same damn experience at that place. Toxic. And it took a lot of growing up to realise and accept the toxicity of that environment. I wish we knew better when we were younger ❤️

To be clear, I have no issues with a bikini. But the way it played out on that particular day waa tasteless. The experience hadn't happened for me to know how exactly I would feel about it right? Do you know your feelings about a situation before the situation happens? We were following instructions given to us. Also, I think you know that your question is an oversimplification. When we're young, we do a lot of things that we would never do as adults for a variety of reasons. When we mature, the world is different and we have the confidence and strength to take better decisions and say no where it matters.

Beauty contest means you are obviously being judged based on your beauties and bodies. As you have participated in contest you were mentored to train. And I think they had briefed about initially for wearing bikini and like that. I feel bad that experience was traumatic for you. But in my opinion you should not participate at age if you do not prepared mentally. And this is ture for any contest be it singing or dancing that you are obviously being judged and the best one would win. For deciding best one they have decided so called conventional beauty standard like this much height and weight. So if don't fit in to that standard obviously lost. This you should know before participating in any contest even government or any other exams have cut off marks and all. Rather you should not participate and being free Lancer and enjoying your life. Best luck.

Thank you for bringing this content, This whole pageant thing is so unrealistic, just judging on a particular scale, why shrink yourself just to fit in a crown
When I see Harnaaz Sidhu or Manasa Varanasi or be it Manushi or anybody they are super slim and are trained to give a particular answer, like what you said coaching
I wasted so many of my years as a young teen pushing my body to reach a particular shape. when we are teens we need societies' and opposite gender's validation to feel confident .in this course earlier I was obese, then I started eating less taking the stress and I became underweight ,I got thyroid.now at 25 I have validated myself.

N i feel soo demotivated n low seeing girls from my own college that I'm doing nthng ... I couldn't do these ramp walks n all ..... But this is actually the truth @sejal behind all those beautiful n bright looking paegents... Thnkuu for the motivation ❤️❤️❤️

I too just don't understand this whole concept of beauty peagents...it's just so toxic , at such a tender age girls compete with themselves and get judged on the basis of their looks ...why hasent anyone stood up for this until now..they really need to change their ways and criterias.
