The reason for de-leafing is for disease control by limiting the build up of fungal pathogens within the plantation. It is a essential strategy in combination with the spraying of fungicides. The vigor of suckers is dependant on which sucker was selected from a healthy mother plant. "Spear" suckers are what is wanted as opposed to "water" suckers. Also suckers need to be dipped in Fenamiphos nematicide to avoid transferring nematodes to the newly planted area. A good general video that points in the right direction but there needs more detailed follow up on horn plantains, and the musa family in general.
Chlorothalonil fungicide every 2 weeks during wet and humid weather. It needs to dry on the leaf before it rains. You need to remove all lower diseased leaves before spraying so as to decrease the amount of fungal pathogens present in your plantains. The fungicides will only give protection against further fungal infection if applied correctly during the critical periods. It will not eliminate infections already present. Do not remove too many leaves as the plant needs at least one healthy leaf for each hand on the bunch. Some other fungicides used to control leaf fungal infections in plantains are Tebuconazole and Fluopyram. Fluopyram is systemic and will also give protection to any leaf area which didn't get good spray cover. It is important to never use the same fungicide repeatedly to avoid resistance developing to that fungicide. It is recommended to regularly alternate with fungicides with a different mode of action.
Any good quality fertilizer will do . Doing this application with a combination of inorganic fertilizer will be great for your commercial farm. Also ensure to get any brand of fungicide and insecticide for treatment.
@@ChidavAgriculturalHub are u sure u read that question well at all? someone is using just 2acres for palmoil which is about 120 palm stand n you saying to intercrop 2200 plantain suckers?? Thats over population...
Well, this is what we do year in year out, we advise based on practical achievable realities. Having 500 suckers in an acre is like shortening your yield by over 50%. We use 2m by 2m plant spacing, which is our recommended spacing for commercial plantain farm.
Ensure to be a part of our live premiere later today, to find out how to grow your plantains to have very huge bunches

How deep should the hole to plant a plantain sucker be?,
This is dependent on soil type and how deep you can dig, as well as plantain variety you’re cultivating though, but it shouldn’t be less than 1 foot.

You’ll can cultivate approximately 7,000 suckers from that land area
