  • Warship Guide - USS Wasp CV-7
USS Wasp was the sole member of her class and a direct result of the interwar treaties. Even though the US Navy had just commissioned an undersized carrier, the USS Ranger, a few years prior and knew that 15,000 tons was not enough tonnage to build the carrier they wanted, the thought process was that having something was better than having nothing, especially with a war on the horizon. Wasp served in the Atlantic Theater during the early days of 1942 before being transferred to the Pacific Theater to make up for the US Navy's operational losses during the Battles of Coral Sea and Midway. It was here, in the South Pacific, where she would meet her demise on a September afternoon inside the infamous torpedo junction. Wasp earned 2 battle stars for her service and an Essex class carrier would later be named in her honor.

I really appreciate your videos. Something happened with this video, it's audio seems to skip. I tested a different RUclips video at 4K and no problem. Came back to this video, and once again heard the audio only skipping. Stats for nerds said no dropped frames. Still a fantastic vid as with your others. Just for info.

Thank you. It didn't skip when I reviewed it before posting, so I'll have to check it again, maybe something happened while uploading it to RUclips. Thanks!

Low anti aircraft defenses doomed her. No heavy Armour also.

"Who said a Wasp couldn't sting twice?" asked nobody ever. Wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets can sting you multiple times when aroused.
Honey bees can't sting twice. They leave their stinger and most of their guts attached to the poor bugger that just got stung. Honey bees make up for their single shot weapon by using swarms of their angry sisters to pull multiple stinger triggers.
I'm positive that there is a naval analog to a honey bee swarm stinging, but just not for the Wasp.

Well Winston Churchill did in his cable to the Wasp thanking the crew for their 2nd delivery of RAF planes to Malta.
