The Canadian supply management system is not about protecting the environment, farmers, or consumers; it is primarily focused on safeguarding the profits of companies at the top of the industry chain. It’s very sad to see many Canadian consumers struggling under this tightly controlled government system.
If Canadian producers are dumping milk WHY did our government allow american dairy in to Canada ? ! ? How much does it cost to BUY a Canadian politician now a days ?
Think about the money that has been dumped since the 1970s when the quota system came in. This has been going on for decades. Supply management has made more millionaires than lotto 649
France has a food waste law primarily targeting supermarkets, requiring them to donate unsold food to charities rather than discarding it. This law addresses food waste broadly; not specifically focusing on milk waste from dairies. Canada should adopt this legislation inclusive of addressing sutplus agricultural or dairy production waste. While the shelf life of milk is limited, production into cheese extends it.
I noticed how milk costs have gone up so much in last 5 years. This is so stupid. The extra milk could even be made into powdered milk and sent as aid to like Africa or low income Canadians. Even send this to food banks inside Canada. Enough of this and Maple syrup commissions messing with the fair market.
Milk marketing board assigns farmers a quota. They are required to meet that quota or they get penalized. Farmers are forced to over produce to meet quota. Cows are not machines and their milk production will very. So you literately have to have more cows being milked to guarantee quota. It is like having extra players on the bench as backup. This is why there will always be extra. I have always said that this extra should be used somewhere or somehow. To food banks makes the most sense. Milk board will always say no because it has not been pasteurized yet. By the way, I grew up drinking whole unpasteurized milk, every dairy farmer did.
That’s nice, but our family loves milk. It’s quite expensive. It’s ridiculous that it’s so expensive and these dairy farmers are forced to dump so much of it 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
I wanna know why this is been going on for decades and they’re just reporting on it now. Does that mean they have failed at their job for that many years?
That farmer is kind of silly for “blowing the whistle” on this, he gets much higher profits because of supply management. He’d likely be unable to complete with cheaper American dairy.
There was a baby formula shortage a few years ago, and even though it was invented in Canada, we have no one interested in manufacturing it locally, along with whey proteirn, yogurt, better quality cheese... The Canadian story is being allergic to homegrown added value production, unless it's taxpayer funded for eventual sale to foreign buyers. Thank-you Denmark for exposing this lunacy, and for making insulin. It was noble of Fleming to not patent it, but we could have at least been one of the manufacturers.
He isn't forced to dump the milk due to gov't regulations. He's forced to dump it because he was too greedy and has too many cows. If he sold off a few cows until his production met his quota, he wouldn't have to dump any milk. This is how the quota system works.
Listening to this report was so hard for me to digest and so bad I almost puked up a whole glass of milk! Trudeau should resign just for this atrocity!
I grew up drinking milk. Lots of it, it was always my favorite. Now my body can not handle it at all! Did something change with milk, or is it just me?
Becoming lactose intolerant is normal, in a lot of countries everyone is, most animals become lactose intolerance when they grow adult size. Lactose free milk has lactase added to it to help break down the lactose
Only in Canada, dumping $14 Billion of milk into garbage, while infant formula has rocketed 30% in 2 years due to no domestic suppliers, millions of Canadians using food banks, and food inflation is a problem in a country with huge food production and energy reserves... Only in Canada...
The mechanism to control surplus in Canada is quota if a farmer dumps milk that is a management decision the farmer makes himself . In my mind it is a bad management decision to produce milk you do not have a market for. Most countries😉
Stop the regulation and lower prices by 30-40%, sell more product and still make profit, corporate greed is out of control!

The Canadian supply management system is protecting the small family farmers from being Crushed and Closed by big industry companies.
I saw this documentary once about this is how they keep the prices high for milk.

This is very upsetting
Prices aside, the waste is unreasonable
Unacceptable
In the 70's in New Brunswick, our family had to dump milk. A little slow on the story.

In Saskatchewan a 4L jug of milk costs almost $7. Now we know why.
0:27 we feel your pain buddy. Everyone is fed up
The cost of milk is ridiculous, and to find this out is messed up. Time to end their government regulations.

We're overpaying because of it. DAIRY REPARATIONS NOW.
Canada needs to RECONCILE with Farmers ! 💲 ! 💲 ! 💲

where is the environmentalist NOT up in arm about this? Food waste create methane and green house gas.
I don't buy milk because the price is way out of line , double what the price is in the States.
And most milk in grocery stores are American 😅😅😅

They dumped MILLIONS of litres during c19. This is NOT new! I support the farmers, this is unbelievable.
Lower the price of milk. Too costly now so I have cut back on buying. Just shameful dumping milk.
Besides produce-compost, there is not one single drop available at foodbanks.
Zero dairy at all.
But no milk at foodbanks!!
Literally!!
Whaaaat I’d drink way more milk if it wasn’t so expensive and they’re dumping it?
The price here in Newfoundland for milk for the quantity is just to price gouging.
Here in Southern Ontario it’s $7.10 for every 4L (3bags) ridiculous. And they are forced to throw so much of it away! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I wanna know why this is been going on for decades and they’re just reporting on it now. Does that mean they have failed at their job for that many years?
Milk isn't the only food source that gets "dumped", wheat, fish, it's shameful and just wrong with all the hunger!
i never waste milk.
Does this milk all end up in Saint Lawrence River in Quebec?
Didn’t the government decide a few years ago that the dairy farmers had to start dumping?
Now you want to blame the farmers?
Now we cry over spilled milk!!!!!!!
All Jim pattisson stores dump more food than they sell it all has to be perfect looking to charge the ridiculous prices they want for it.
lower the price sell all the milk make the same money.
Only in Canada
Got milk?
Make cheese
I have been hearing about this for ever in the EU and Canada, and now everyone is acting surprised.
Its a shame this milk can't be powdered and sent abroad to places enduring catastrophe.

Which province has all the dairy production? That’s who is responsible for $7/gallon milk.
If the farmers are pouring the milk down the drain why not just let the calves have it instead?
EXCELLENT idea. But that wouldn't be a DRAMATIC news show.
The calves are already drinking as much as they can. They don't have enough calves to drink it all.
@@e-curbmaybe more barn cats then
7% of milk? Seriously you think that a problem? That's like the amount that doesn't make the grade we see in the shelf...
protecting profits for dairy farmers dont care about the consumer
Price fixing, but it's ok because it's farmers.

Milk dumping or price fixing?
Both
Cause and effect
keep deferring to the prime minister
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
governement forced this during covid and now they want buisnesses to pay for the loss they suffered lol
No milk at foodbanks,
Why?????
There's no money in feeding the poor. None.
Ask a food bank.
Look for better country for living 😅😅
I grew up drinking milk. Lots of it, it was always my favorite. Now my body can not handle it at all! Did something change with milk, or is it just me?
You probably developed a lactose intolerance
Becoming lactose intolerant is normal, in a lot of countries everyone is, most animals become lactose intolerance when they grow adult size. Lactose free milk has lactase added to it to help break down the lactose
Put those dairy commissions guys in jail. And go after lino saputo the milk billionaire and see if he has montreal mafia ties.

Just have 7% less cows . There I fixed it for ya .
I want to pay less for cheese.
we should get rid of the dairy board
100%
Don't buy american milk ! ! !
@@Finness894 the best milk is free market milk

Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame
And so many going with out and prices so high 😮
Finally! I've been talking about this for years!
They don't know how big the problem is, they don't want anyone to know
Milk Trudeau....😂😂😂
Send it to 3rd world countries or countries where the population is lacking dairy products. Greedy corporations and unions trying to keep prices high.
Tell them to come get it! Gas station owners make more off gasoline in canada, than canadian farmer make on milk per leiter
state control is a horrible horrible thing.
What a waste. Unacceptable!
Make Government cheese Great Again 😂
Price fixing profits and corporations
Its okay we can leave without milk
It’s not the dairy operators, it’s the government, keeping the prices high
🔥🔥🔥

Then lower the price on Canadian milk !!!!
Yah. SUPPLY MANAGEMENT INFLATES PRICES SO DAIRY IS A LUXURY WE CANNOT AFFORD. GOV. NEEDS 2 DO SOMETHING.
