That picture is nearly as good as when it was new. I did work on black & white GEC sets from that era in the mid 70's but never saw inside a colour one until now. I always liked the picture quality of the KB / ITT cvc5 - cvc9 sets. Thanks.

I was only 12 when this set was made, and it wasn't until 1971 that i started
my training at tech college on the City & Guilds 223 course and learned about
    servicing them.
The early valve colour sets were much kinder to the tubes than the later transistor
ones and the better samples had an excellent performace, but all that heat took it's
toll on the components of the day.
Today we have LED backlights that like to fail, and i doubt that many will last as long as
    this one has.

Had the same set back in 1980, really excellent picture, although the 405 was disabled for reliability🤣

One model that escaped me, very nice set and very good picture, very forward thinking of GEC to use a tripler, saves a lot of stress on the loptx not having a huge overwind, finally got my BRC 2000 working after a six year restoration, i don't think the crt is as good as yours but it's a 2k!, it's working, and it only took a lifetime to find one!.

Thats a blast from the past i only worked on few DS GEC. but quite a few philips DS G6
I thought the philios gave a better picture in colour and black and white .

Hello Andy are you going to do a Part 2 on the 1967 GEC Television? Sandy

Sadly not. It's gone to its new home. There's a more comprehensive write up on the website. andydoz.blogspot.com/2014/08/gec-2028.html

The red light on the front used to light up when the set received colour transmissions!
I think the Thorn 2000 series also used an eht tripler.

Quadrupler, just restored one, took me six years!.

Impressively poor screen to cabinet ratio, presumably because the chassis was really designed around the larger tube. I think the world breather a sigh of relief when we got away from dual standard TVs. Those long open frame switches could play up forever.

Upon it's release in 1967, it was the smallest colour TV available, therefore a little cheaper.
