Are You Lonely For Me ~ Wild Jamming
Jerry had his own unique style of playing that you cannot compare to the typical "rock n roll" guitarist. His playin reached into your heart n soul. It tugged at your feelings and emotions. I'm in Cali visiting a frnd, went into the Haight yesterday and although it has changed ALOT it brought back memories that had me with tears in my eyes. He was a special human being and a special musician we should all be "GRATEFUL" for the time we had with him and the happiness he brought to us. I know sappy shit but true. Love n Miss you Jerry. RIP!
If it weren't for the Gr8ful Dead I would not be a well circulated Coal Hick from the Sticks!!! I learned allot about the World at those shows seein how peeps be doin some kinda honest, respectable self supporting thing to get to the next show has left such a Gr8 impact on my life that I will NEVER FORGET THAT GIRL IN 1991 @ Soldier Field who gave me a sticker from "Infamous Illustrious" that said ; "FIND WHAT YOU LOVE/ LOVE WHAT YOU FIND" NOR CAN I FORGET MY CORRASPONDENCE W/ JEFF WHO WENT ON TO BE ONE OF "THE THREE HIGH GUYS."!!!! LUV U ALL!!!!
the Coltrane of guitar
Played chord tones, mixolydian, passing notes, and chromatic notes are things that make Jerry jerry
classic American subliteracy
Amen!
I’ve grown quite fond of this whole performance. Great stuff
jerry was so much more than the dead
a musical hero
I've always enjoyed Jerry's playing when he had a Stratocaster. Alligator is my favorite Jerry Guitar, Followed by the Travis Bean & Wolf.
tiger and the bean for me
Wolf n Bean here!!
playing a strat is magic to me. so vocal in its tone. travis bean is like a ferari of a guitar so its also a god tier guit
Absolutely love the Strat and ofcourse Wolf , Rosebud , Tiger he can play any guitar and make it sound amazing
Early Wolf was essentially Alligator. But man, the way he dug into that Start was pure magic.
Saw this band at the Tower Theater this same year...killer. Some of Jerry's best playing.
Paul Warren is
Holy Phunking $hit! expressway!!¡! I have loved this song since I was 12 years old listening to it on an AM radio station in My family's

Outstanding
I feel so empty with out him
RIP Jerry! Twenty years on, and still, no one comes close to your musical beauty...............and still, nobody will consider the rerelease of "Pure Jerry: Keystone Berkeley, September 1st 1974". So sad.........
I wish there was documentary video of GarciaSaundersBand(s)! We got ripped off no one did, or kept it hidden away

This show is a hidden gem. It’s doesn’t get nearly enough credit.
Very Nice ..Thank you so much
youtube has sent me on a good roll!!!
crazy right?
absolute gem
is that short for gemini or am I just stupid or something
❤
Speechless.
Evidently they Stole our Tongues as well as our faces 😶 ✌️💖🎶
I love you Barry💞💓💞💓💞💓💖🤣
Wow. Tasty. Sweeter than August corn. Pre-heroin Jerry.
Every time I get on a JGB kick it makes me remember that if I'm honest with myself, I think I prefer them to the dead. Sure they are kind of a glorified cover band but I dont care lol. Love their sound.
Especially if he would have actually focused on them instead of just something to do in between tours.
I can't tell you how many times I've danced in my living room watching that shoreline DVD from right after mydland died.
I prefer them as well, not even a question for me.
Where can I get one of those jackets?
I was thinking the same thing .... I need one of them !!😇✨🎶🎸✨🎶❤✌🌹
I Love!!!! 😁A Rocking Too Our 🐻 Ole GARCIA🎸🌹That Is🌹🎸And😪At Times Too!!! Oh!! Fuck Yeah!!!!😀😁☹️😪🌹🎸🌹🎸🌹🎸🌹🌏
Love the Travis bean.
Bill Graham had a green triumph for years, at least like 1970-mid 80's. Wonder if it was him?
My only Jerry poster is this one with the jacket and his "alligator strat" in black & white. Still miss the guy.
Wow, early Dixie, nice!
Never heard Jerry do a Jesse song before, I love Biloxi what a song...
Jerry with a strat is pretty rare. 71 and 72 are only times I've known he was playing one
It's nice to see this has; if not an exactly correct thumb i.e. from this particular show, if not at least from the year or maybe the next year, that is when he was playing a Fender Strat. I'm not "judging a book by it's cover" so to speak! So what's my point/inspiration for this comment? Not only was I just listening to another show from this band in '72, with a thumbnail of Jerry with his Travis Bean which he didn't have until '75 so obviously wrong; as well similarly incorrect thumbnails for some Grateful Dead show(s) picturing them at the Winterland closing (which I watched the live broadcast of therefore I'd recognize it anywhere; not to mention having recorded them myself the night before at U.C.L.A. , not that that matters but still true) but the recording was somewhere else, hence misleading!
Primo stuff!
The Shows section on the Jerry Garcia site (jerrygarcia.com/shows/) has this show listed under 6-30-72 at Keystone Korner.
jerrygarcia.com/show/1972-06-30-keystone-korner-san-francisco-ca/
Tom Fogerty is a part of this.
Sweet!
Without Tom, the whole thing would fall apart.
Was thinking it didn't sound like John.
Jerry: "Anyone here got a green Triumph, uh, license number 612 AT0?"
Just trying to imagine that in a stadium in the 90s : )
Wish i could have been there...
or 1972...
oh crap! THAT’s where I left it?
This is not a stadium… its a smaller local bar venue
Covid 19. Was Down around Biloxi, if I am not mistaken..

01:04:47 Lot to Laugh
Cool I have the record just found it in the basement
up there? he is far above Jimi. Jim janis etc. He was a musicians musician!!! he was up there with Coltrane and others alike who pioneered their own musical styles. He wasn't a rock star. by choice. but was he ever??!!!!. the other 3 are not going to be studied someday. Jerry already is. how many doors or Hendrix tribute bands you have?? why? they weren't real music
Frankly anyone who says the Doors were not real music is making a foolish claim. Very few musicians have had such an impact as The Doors and they are still being enjoyed by millions today. same goes for Jimi and Janis.
@Gary Daniel Jerry had more talent in his half middle finger than Hendrix could have ever imagined having. Love them both, but Hendrix couldn't come anywhere near Jerry for pure talent. Not even close. You just gotta listen.
@@johngarbutt the doors fucking suck!!!
Man I love Jerry Garcia, but let's not go too far. Hendrix was a far More original and influential player than Jerry was. Personally I don't ever get tired of Jerry and that's not true with Jimi, but I can't say Jerry was better with a straight face. 9 out of 10 accomplished electric guitarists will absolutely agree with this. Hendrix may as well have been from another planet he was so revolutionary.
@@gregsullivan6778 Haha
👋
respected as a musician by his peers. im sry im brutal but what did Jim or Janis even do except die popular
That one song sounds like the music from "Expressway To Your Heart"...Heavy familiar bass line, B3 and guitar chorus and lead licks...
Ed Halfen that's cause it is!
It’s definitely 1972-06-30
What does merl play?
Jesse Gilbart organ and piano.
Did Jerry Garcia ever take guitar lessons? Anybody know
Official lessons? No he did not. He didn’t even know how to read sheet music. (Fun fact: Phil was the only GD member who could)
anyone know all the band members who sat in on this great show?
Merl Saunders - keyboards
Jerry Garcia - guitar, vocals
John Kahn - bass
Bill Vitt - drums
Thanks Ranko!
@@justatwistoffate You forgot Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar.
not fade away
Oh I should have read previous messages ..... tada
Ri rightchuss
Can anyone verify who the drummer is on this show? Ron Tutt perhaps?
Unsure, but I think Bill Vitt. Both were outta sight!
@@ykmgeedee Oh, yeah, Bill Vitt. Another master of the pocket!
Well there go two more Dead hours. But, I can't really think of a more enjoyable way to kill some time...Is there an album called Dead or Alive? If not, should be, but the older I get the more I learn that there is relatively no original thought, as genius as unique and genius as the sometimes seem...But I digress from what to what...what? Turn It Up, Ed
Jerry Oh Jerry you left of us way 2 soon ... I’ll trade 20 dead mumble rappers for 1 live Jerry,, oh and if Jerry Hand picked or Garciafamily Provisiions happens to read this .... I’d buy 20 of those jackets Jerry is wearing in the PIC
Keystone, not Keystone Korner. Two different clubs a few blocks from each other.
Yeah I only knew Keystone Korner, saw Jerry & Merle there 05.20.1971. The New Monk in Berkeley was also called The Keystone for awhile, saw Jerry there playin steel with the NRPS same summer.
ruclips.net/video/GPycmantyzk/видео.html
Genius, are you sure about that?
Sorry guys, and gals, I'm no kid, (65 y/o) and I just don't see the attraction.I'll probably go to rock and roll Hell for it, but I'm just not a fan. Bob Dylan either. It's weird, because the Allman's are my favorite jam band, so one would think...
to bad
I’m 78. Loving it. Maybe you’re too young. ??
You're just a silly waste, Clint. Why else would you bother everyone?
Jerry's guitar playing evolved a lot over the years, I love this era, but he still was inventive and brilliant right to the very end. His voice may have gotten a bit ragged at times, and his on stage demeanor kinda tired, no wonder, but he kept on keepin' on and his guitar work was always amazing.
I agree, too. I like his acoustic stuff he did later on. He got back to some of his bluegrass roots.
Long live John Kahn man. Fuck
Agreed. True gem. Amazing gig. Long live Jerry, in whatever dimension!
Smashing and just feel like I'm getting my jerry fix. From this show. Walla walla Bing bang. The fat man is the grand Master🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Garcia is up there with Hendrix, Miles, Coltrane, Mingus, Janis, Jim, J.L. Hooker etc. What a live wire!!!
no doubt
Preach!
Dude! That's where the real rock-n-roll is being played now!!!
Nek Mr
There is a certain stratosphere were the electric gods rest their weary heads at night. It's a zone attended by those who have magic in their fingertips. Each owners of a special magnetic field. An electron aura each their own. Yep, Jerry had it....
Merl! miss talking with u bro. you were such a SPECIAL light! Jerry knew it.
I'm grateful I got to see Jerry and Merl at all 3 Keystones. Miss them both.
Can one ever say these guys are toooo goood? Never. They're always fabulous and, groovin' . They are just too good!! Never stop listening to this stuff.
+LIZZIE SANGI Sangi (Lizzie) : No they're not too good. They are too fantastic!
Cool jacket, huh?
saw that live but I can't remember....did the whole dead have them? Nudie Cohen?
I hear that!!! In the early 90's that's all I could listen to because they covered EVERYBODY!!!
Too good only on earth. These men kicked that like a can in a gutter. I don’t know what level they’re on; but maybe there, they’re just great.
I was there, OK? Bless to see Jerry et al, in a club w/ 30 peeps drinking expressos. O Yes!
Whether you like or not There ain’t nothing like Jerry & Merl.
What an amazing show! Garcia & Saunders ftw!
jer on strat sounds so good. always partial to his travis beans a few years later. miss u jer

Absolutely smoking !!! Thank God for Merl Sanders, He taught Jerry how to play again after he came out of the diabetic coma that he went into on summer tour of 86 , bless you Merl !! So imagine Garcia learned to master the guitar all over again !! Blows my mind !!
I remember the diabetic coma ...but i had no idea that Garcia had to learn guitar all over again because of it...much less that Sanders played a big role in Garcia's recovery.....wow
@@richardprychitko4520 Yes he absolutely Did imagine learning to play like that forgetting it all and then re-learning again ??? Crazy huh ??
Merl Saunders described going to the hospital to see Jerry. He walked through the front doors and felt like he somehow knew exactly where he was going. Without asking for directions he walked across the lobby to the elevator and pushed the button that seemed right. When the doors opened he felt like he knew where he was going, walked down the hallway that seemed proper, and stopped in front of an open door. Merl walked into that room and found himself standing next to Jerry's bed.
@@davidstockton196 Wow Thanks I never heard that story before !! Crazy stuff Man !!
Jerry also claims Merl taught him everything he knew about music, obviously jerry exaggerating since I don't think Jerry and merl linked up until late 60s , maybe 1970.
Beautiful that even though merl and Jerry hadn't shared the stage in such a long time when he had his coma , they must've had a strong bond for merl to be there during such a devastating period of JGs life.

nice stuff here. I have this on disk as 6-30-72 but it ends with Aftrer Midnight. Dead Base XI has this as 6-30-72 with the Money Money and the killer Jam at the end.the 9-1-72 show ends with After Midnight. so my disk could be labeled wrong or the two songs could be cut. I guess Ill never know. Anyway thanx for the upload and really enjoyed listening. ooh and uughhhh the cut kills me!!!!
Thanks for the intriguing info! I'll have to check that out...
