    As with everything you touch, absolutely thorough. Also, your presentation and filming skills have improved dramatically over the years, DD. Such an immense pleasure to watch. The coverage of your trip is probably the thing I'm looking towards the most on RUclips.

    Desert Dog, this was a great video that reinforced some of your earlier safari info videos. You’ve made at least a half dozen safari wants & needs vids that give so many tips that, frankly, a first timer would do well to watch a few times each with a notebook just like a college class! As you mentioned, $25K is a chunk of change and arriving at your camp is not the time to think about something you should have packed!
    DD, your videos are just too packed to only watch once and say, “Oh yeah, I got it all under control…”
    My last observation is that your M70 in 416RemMag is proof positive that Winchester is still one of the best rifles available today! Some darned impressive trigger work too!
    Thanks for posting and good luck on your safari! Y’all have a safe trip!

    i CONGRATULATIONS, a most interesting and instructive video. A good guide for a trip to a wilderness. Matter of fact I disagree with you in treference THIS IS A MUST VIDEO FOR EVEN NEAR CIVILIZATION TRIP BE IT HUNTING IN A FENCED AREA OR OTHER SPORT ACTIVITY. I did many airtrips while being an World Archery International Judge and some as Argentine Team Captain and my luggage planning ,followed your general idea. I carry with myself a pack with a spare set of judge uniform and the Rules and Interpretations Books and other related paraphernalia. My travelling attire was out of tournament field garment. I woulkd have liked to obtain some of the stuff you take to Africa, but it was some years ago. Most usefull video, really it should be used by every sportman or sportwoman as a guide

    You’re spot on on most of your content here. I’ve hunted Zimbabwe 10x now and there has been a change in ammo transportation. Air Link is the only airline flying from Joberg to Harare, and now requires you to have your ammo in a separate locked container and NOT in your checked luggage. I use a Pelican 1400 (orange- sticks out) with 2 locks- to check separately. So far, in 3 trips there hasn’t been any problem- you pick it up with your rifle. I too use a 416Rem. Thanks for the good videos.

    One of my favorite big bores is my Semi custom Pre64 Winchester in .416 Remington Magnum a very accurate and reliable rifle for me. On the bad stuff it's vastly superior to the .375 Magnum. Extremely well done video on what to bring and how to do so efficiently and in a compact manner.

    LOVE your channel. I am wanting to get into big bore for a trip to Africa someday. I was thinking of starting with a 375 H&H or .416 rem mag. I have fired a good amount of 300 win mag but that is as big as I have gone.

    I haven't realized, but you may be in California as I see a Zone A video you did with your wife. Thanks so much for doing these videos. I don't know if I will ever be able to afford an Africa hunt, and haven't hunted since my teen years, I just finished my hunter education and waiting for my pig tag to arrive. I have property in Lake County, and I've read that zone A is good for hunting due to the fires over the past 5 years. For California I aspire to get a big horn sheep back in the White Mountains back by Mono Lake.

    I did not expect Varget to be the correct powder for cartridge of that size. Interesting.

    • @desertdogoutdoors1113
      @desertdogoutdoors1113  Год назад +2

      Too many people believe that powder burn rates are based on case capacity alone; but its actually a combination of case-volume to bore area ratio and bullet weight that determine powder selection. Yes, the 416rm has a large powder charge; but it also has a large bore diameter, so does well with medium-burn powders. Usually, the more over-bore a cartridge is, the more it needs slower powders. Case-volume to bore-area ratio is why 223 and 308 use the same powders; and why 25-06 and 30-06 favor different powders even though they use nearly the same case volume.

    The bug part of this video is most educational short term, I am eaten alive by ticks everyday, and deet is not good for everyday use. I pick 20 ticks per day and will try your way. I am a meat machine, but I am allergic to tick bites, all summer I look like a meth head covered in sores, I will try your no bug way and report effectiveness.
