As with everything you touch, absolutely thorough. Also, your presentation and filming skills have improved dramatically over the years, DD. Such an immense pleasure to watch. The coverage of your trip is probably the thing I'm looking towards the most on RUclips.
Such a well thought out packing list! Good one 👍
Desert Dog, this was a great video that reinforced some of your earlier safari info videos. You’ve made at least a half dozen safari wants & needs vids that give so many tips that, frankly, a first timer would do well to watch a few times each with a notebook just like a college class! As you mentioned, $25K is a chunk of change and arriving at your camp is not the time to think about something you should have packed!
DD, your videos are just too packed to only watch once and say, “Oh yeah, I got it all under control…”
My last observation is that your M70 in 416RemMag is proof positive that Winchester is still one of the best rifles available today! Some darned impressive trigger work too!
Thanks for posting and good luck on your safari! Y’all have a safe trip!
Good luck and safe travels! Can’t wait to hear all about it!
i CONGRATULATIONS, a most interesting and instructive video. A good guide for a trip to a wilderness. Matter of fact I disagree with you in treference THIS IS A MUST VIDEO FOR EVEN NEAR CIVILIZATION TRIP BE IT HUNTING IN A FENCED AREA OR OTHER SPORT ACTIVITY. I did many airtrips while being an World Archery International Judge and some as Argentine Team Captain and my luggage planning ,followed your general idea. I carry with myself a pack with a spare set of judge uniform and the Rules and Interpretations Books and other related paraphernalia. My travelling attire was out of tournament field garment. I woulkd have liked to obtain some of the stuff you take to Africa, but it was some years ago. Most usefull video, really it should be used by every sportman or sportwoman as a guide
Bon voyage guys! Would love to see some footage from the bush.
You’re spot on on most of your content here. I’ve hunted Zimbabwe 10x now and there has been a change in ammo transportation. Air Link is the only airline flying from Joberg to Harare, and now requires you to have your ammo in a separate locked container and NOT in your checked luggage. I use a Pelican 1400 (orange- sticks out) with 2 locks- to check separately. So far, in 3 trips there hasn’t been any problem- you pick it up with your rifle. I too use a 416Rem. Thanks for the good videos.
I don't go through Joberg anymore. when I go to Zim or Zambia, flying emirates or Qatar is the way to go.
@@desertdogoutdoors1113 are you going to SCI in Nashville?

Even though I'll probably never get to Africa, I thoroughly enjoyed your video hands down. The things you pointed out are pretty much applicable to any wild hunt and/or even survival tips. Good luck on your trip DD !!
Brilliant and very educational videos as usual. You are the best at providing great information for hunters wherever they decide to hunt. I have learned so much from your teaching and am grateful that you continue to do so.

One of my favorite big bores is my Semi custom Pre64 Winchester in .416 Remington Magnum a very accurate and reliable rifle for me. On the bad stuff it's vastly superior to the .375 Magnum. Extremely well done video on what to bring and how to do so efficiently and in a compact manner.
Thanks!!! I just watched the packing video and booked a buffalo hunt today. Awesome information!!! THANKS.
Excellent presentation. I appreciate your knowledge and the time that you take on all of your videos.
Thank you for your videos. Very well done and with lots of information!
Excellent video, thanks for taking the time to make this! Best of luck on the hunt. Shoot straight, and come home with a great Dagga Boy!
LOVE your channel. I am wanting to get into big bore for a trip to Africa someday. I was thinking of starting with a 375 H&H or .416 rem mag. I have fired a good amount of 300 win mag but that is as big as I have gone.
For price your rifle is the best
Impressive shooting with those high recoil cartridges. You were rock solid. I agree with you, shooting is a perishable skill...I lose accuracy if I don't practice a few times a month.
A lot of really good information. Hope you have a great trip and experience.
Great Show have a great hunt/trip.
The trip is sometimes better than the hunt. Good luck and God’s speed.
Good luck it looks like you’ve got your bases covered. That’s quite the hunt watch your six in the bush.
Good video thanks for the info
Safe travels and good luck on a good buff.
Thanks for the vid! Really helpful!
GREAT video! My wife watched the part where you showed your carry-on bag and she totally approved (she had taken a trip to India with her sister, and had very carefully planned out packing for that trip). Thank you. You should check out KEEN Newports for camp wear. Jus' sayin'.
I haven't realized, but you may be in California as I see a Zone A video you did with your wife. Thanks so much for doing these videos. I don't know if I will ever be able to afford an Africa hunt, and haven't hunted since my teen years, I just finished my hunter education and waiting for my pig tag to arrive. I have property in Lake County, and I've read that zone A is good for hunting due to the fires over the past 5 years. For California I aspire to get a big horn sheep back in the White Mountains back by Mono Lake.
Happy hunting sir! Cheers from Canada.
Excellent info
Good hunting, and good luck!
Be safe
Enjoy your hunt here in southern Africa!!!
Good luck DD!
Thanks !!!!!!
Best of luck and safe travels.
Awesome.
Just what I was looking for!

The scenario…
Wife on the bed wearing lingerie gazing upon me.
Me: “Hey babe, I’m almost done with this Desert Dog video.”
and I’m not even planning on a buffalo hunt.
God help me!!
You better shut me off and take care of business!

😉 Safe travels and success on your trip.
Backpack for carry on, checked duffel, rifle case….where does the ammo case go? Love your stuff!
In the checked bag
I apologize. I see the ammo box now near the end of the video. Your audio has really improved. Great quality. It’s like you’re in the same room.
I did not expect Varget to be the correct powder for cartridge of that size. Interesting.
Too many people believe that powder burn rates are based on case capacity alone; but its actually a combination of case-volume to bore area ratio and bullet weight that determine powder selection. Yes, the 416rm has a large powder charge; but it also has a large bore diameter, so does well with medium-burn powders. Usually, the more over-bore a cartridge is, the more it needs slower powders. Case-volume to bore-area ratio is why 223 and 308 use the same powders; and why 25-06 and 30-06 favor different powders even though they use nearly the same case volume.
The bug part of this video is most educational short term, I am eaten alive by ticks everyday, and deet is not good for everyday use. I pick 20 ticks per day and will try your way. I am a meat machine, but I am allergic to tick bites, all summer I look like a meth head covered in sores, I will try your no bug way and report effectiveness.
Wish I could use my 45-70 on something else besides elk and deer, but thanks for the fine videos, i like to hunt with a real guns.
45-70 lacks the energy to be legal for Buff in most places. It really is an overrated cartridge.
WoW.
Good luck
Have a wonderfull time with your wife and wish you a great hunt DD.
Thank You.
That’s the way I am going to go in 2025.
Will we ever see you do a video on your Heym double rifle?
I think I found a buyer. It's been for sale, along with my F-class rigs I never use anymore.
Do you clean your bore before a hunt?
No, I always hunt on a fouled bore. A clean bore will have a different point of impact, so you don't want that.

Excellent. I've heard both, so I wanted to hear what you had to say.
Don't forget the Blistex..
Never used it in my life. I'm blessed in that I've never needed it.

Excellent video! Good, sound advice!
