  • Following up my previous video regarding my DJI Mini 4 pro and remote ID. This might be a good time to re-introduce myself to the drone hobby and have some fun.

Thanks Brian . I’ve got the m4p . I downloaded a drone scanner app for my I phone. I will test it next time I fly the drone.👍

Good luck! Just a reminder I don’t think it works on an iPhone…if you have one, that is! Thanks for watching.

Brian thanks for your very informative videos on RUD and Mini DJI drones. 249 grams sounds like the right way for me to go into the blue skies!

In testing I've seen, it is a difference in the ver of Bluetooth the phone can receive. I use Android. From my understanding, Apple phones don't receive bt5...or the bt5 vers many of rid's are being transmitted on. I'm with you and want to avoid rid!!... An aside is to remember to find one of the 4 approved CBOs (community based organizations), and have a copy of their (freely provided) UAS rules/guidelines that you "follow". It's written into the law for us using Recreational Exception to the 107 rules. Fly safe & have fun!

Thanks for the tip on the CBOs! I will look into that.

Good luck with your Continuing Education Plan, Brian. That's a good idea for most people, regardless of subject. I've been a Part 107 pilot since the first day the certification was available. I think I was #2 at the local FSDO office to get it, and I'd have been #1 if the FAA phone system hadn't been down temporarily due to some flooding. I was already a Private Pilot, so getting the Remote Pilot cert was no sweat. But for recreational pilots who post RUclips videos, I worry about the FAA's "interpretive law" skills. They seem to say if you use your drone "in furtherance of a business," you need to fly under Part 107 with a registered drone. Who's business? They don't say. While you may not make any money with your RUclips video, especially if you didn't monetize it, you certainly could be furthering the business of Google and RUclips. And RUclips may put ads in it anyway. The FAA is famous for not defining terms in their regulations and instead interpreting them on a case-by-case basis. Exactly what is a "sparsely populated area" for example? And if you use autotracking to follow yourself on a bicycle, is the bicycle a "vehicle" for purposes of "reckless operation" enforcement? What about a skateboard or OneWheel®?

You make a great point about the "furtherance of a business". I was ready to say it was about money your make or if you helped your friend out, but damn, you'd think google or youtube would count as well! They benefit from my videos by placing ads on them. Thanks for the kind words!

The real question is…..does the weight automatically start the remote ID or the battery itself.
In other words, can you buy the regular one without the remote ID and put in the Plus batteries after??

Dude...if you fail to meet all requirements of section 44809 you revert from recreational flier to part 107....its not just about making money lol
