Renault is timeless. Some people were disappointed by the final edition of the trilogy, Funeral Games, but it was a stunning work. I will never forget how she depicts the death of Olympias.
Ah, I wish I could buy it, but unfortunaly in Italy only The Persian Boy was published. Bad luck, uh? Oh, well, I loved your reading, although there were a few mistakes of little importance. I think you have a beautiful voice and a good pronunciation of the greek names. :) Very good!
I'm about 3/4 the way done with "fire"...I've learned immensely about Alexander n his personality...he was a prodigy and misfit, no doubt...what a contemporary do with a such a young man...I can definitely see how he gravitated towards dominant females n forward tbinking tutors... dominant men just can't grasp prodigy's like him...but no doubt, soon learned too
Mary Renault is one of the best and one of my favorite historical writers. The first book of hers I picked up by accident: The Mask of Apollo. I then read the pair of books concerning Theseus. I am currently reading Fire From Heaven, and I am entranced by her writing. I have already ordered the second one (The Persian Boy) online, and should get it soon. Thanks for your input.
I have long been a fan of Mary Renault, but have never read "Fire from Heaven". I can absolutely hear the influence of Mary on the late Marion Zimmer Bradley, particularly her novel, "The Mists of Avalon"!
@BeadsandFlowers Dear me! I tried to reply to this when I first saw it and it didn't work, but I forgot the response had failed. I'm glad you liked the reading and encourage you to try bookfinder (online search engine of various booksellers) to find a copy of the other books. Not in Italian but you can handle the English, I think!
Hello, I really enjoyed your video review and, given that I am a student of English to Spanish translation it fits perfectly to my desire of improving my listening skills. I'd like to ask something, what is in your opinion a good novel to read Mary Renault for the first time? I'm more into historical books that contain a good dose of romance... Thank you for your answer! All the best.
