- BIG CHANGES HAVE FINALLY HAPPENED! For those of you who may have stumbled upon this video and decided to watch, lemme fill you in.
In March of 2023 these weirdos bought a 300 year old historic house that had suffered a huge fire. Since then they have taken the burned roof, demo-ed out all the fire damage, re-built a new roof structure for two houses, and made a ton of exciting (and some relatively terrifying) discoveries.
Getting this house "in the dry" after almost a year is a HUGE accomplishment. Truly, its a place we weren't entirely sure we'd ever see, but now that it's here we honestly feel like it's pretty smooth sailing from here on out.
This historic restoration/renovation/rehabilitation/reconstruction is a more than monumental undertaking, but it will be so worth it when we finish! OH! and did we mention that we are also restoring a 500 square foot hoarders house that also happens to be on the property at the same time? YEP, that is where we plan to live-along with our EIGHT dogs and a cat- while we complete the work on the main houses.
We get by with a little help from our friends, and in March we were thrilled to host 100 of our nearest and dearest for a 3 day weekend of fun, fellowship, friendship and frivolity in our favorite city. Come along as we show you what spending a weekend with our motley crew is like!

Oh, my goodness, when he said: "Get comfy, put your feet in the stirrups.", I snorted so loudly that I shocked myself and began laughing. Kept To Kill a Mockingbird as one of only an armful of books when I moved from the West Coast and purged my book collection.
You’d find the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis fascinating; yes, MLK and Rosa Parks and the garbage strike and all, yet somehow in all that madness it’s also a deeply, as you’ve said, spiritual experience. ❤

This is such a fun video! Love seeing all of the progress! Love hearing about your plans for the interiors of the house! And reliving some of the fun memories of restoring hope weekend! Todd and I talked about Catherine and Everett Ratcliffe and how relaxed and gracious they were to the group. He spent so much time talking with us about his Civil War relics, and about the history of his farm and the area. The rain did not hurt the fun at all! We just loved that weekend! Laine and Kevin were both absolutely amazing during the cemetery tour! Kevin was so funny, and I really didn't want Laine's part to be over. I could've sat and listened to her elegant, southern drawl for hours! The progressive dinner was out of this world, and the concert by the mayor was wonderful! We just loved it all!❤

Oh my gosh! Where do I start? This has not been popping up in my notifications for RUclips, so I have spent the last two nights catching up on restoring Hope! I can’t believe the treasures that you have found, especially that painting! I wish I would’ve known about your March event because I sure would’ve tried to be there.❤❤ I just love the way y’all do things. You’re such a great couple and complement each other! I learn quite a bit from your videos. I can’t wait to see what the finish project looks like, but then a big part of the anticipation is the videos that y’all create! What a Grand report! My son lives in Columbia County, FL & was married on a friend’s property there . They had the wonderful porta potties that must be similar. I’ve never seen anything like them! It was a small room, including a sink with running water! I understand Laine’s excitememt

There were so many surprises in this video, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. And glad to see the progress at Hope Farm continuing on the positive! Also, agree that you should have "up played" the cemetery tour for the masses, that was unusually terrific!
I encountered similar portapotties which were the Rolls Royce of such things at the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta at Runnymede, UK on June 15, 2015. They were like the nicest ladies' rooms at upscale department stores. I was there as a member of the National Society of Dames & Barons of Magna Charta, descending from 2 of the Surety Barons.

To hear you say the words ‘humble farm house’ 😮 I just measured a house built in 1834, the original part of the house was brick stairs in the middle and a room on the right and left of the stairs. No kitchen. When you showed the milking house I got really excited behind the original brick house folks have added on and behind that there are 2 small foundations. I’m certain one was a milking house! I wish I could have you two for an hour to tell me about this house. I think the original owner was a fan of Washington’s Mount Vernon. He humbly built a federal style but then later someone added the Greek revival elements. The new owner is going to flip this house, I hope I can encourage him to restore as much as possible while he strives to make a more functional home for the new owners. ❤

I've been wondering since you've become such a part of Natchez if you've met the author Greg Iles. He seems like the kind of guy who might be helpful and interested in your project. And he's mentioned many famous houses in Natchez in his novels. Love his hair-raising stories.

As a fellow dark-haired gal (who is also an introvert), I squealed out loud when I saw you in that glorious dark red period dress! Stunning is too tame a word. The Cemetery tour/pageant looked wonderful! Your event for like-minded people looks like it hit all the boxes. I have to say, that while many people are minimalists and descry having lots of 'stuff', you are a kindred spirit with your excitement over pairing up historically significant antique pieces to create the right ambience. It is a gift you can give to others, to help them see and feel what the past was like. I haven't seen To Kill a Mockingbird (love Gregory Peck) for decades. You've inspired me to explore that story again. Hope you can get settled in your temp home, and rest up. Cheers from California. :)

Hello! I recently discovered you after finally setting up wifi, and watching my fav Friesian Horse channel on my TV instead of my phone. My all-time fav TV show is This Old House, I only subscribe to Old House Journal and (not related)buy old bulb varieties from Old House Gardens. I live in an 1870s working class Vic, in Wisconsin, which we're always doing something with...waking up the pollinator landscape is on at the moment. I really enjoy the consistent quality of your video productions, from lighting and shooting at the right time of day, to gently zooming in on particular architectural details and the music you pair to the home. The guided tours you produce are also fantastic, but you have a stunning, photographic and knowledgeable host in Laine. I love when you do hands-on tips, such as the Newel post and woodwork cleaning, and of course, when you get into the meat and potatoes of replacing floor joists and not being defeatists about the scope of a project. I really think that your program would be a great series for PBS. We have 4 tiers of PBS programming in Wisconsin and I think you could find a home there on Create, where shows like 'The Legacy List with Max Paxton' flourishes. I could go on and on, but I won't, but thank you for the joy of your projects and for helping preserve our history:)

To answer your question about Hope Farm: we really don’t know! All we do know is that the first recorded evidence of the name is in a deed transfer in 1805, which means the home had the name prior to that time. We assume it was given that name when it was built between 1775-1789. Can you imagine? It’s had its name longer than we’ve had this country!

I can imagine the exhaustion you went through. It reminds me of when I was in active labor, three wks. overdue, on moving day! Boy, that was a challenge.

Thank you so much for doing a fabulous early 19th Century restoration of Hope Farm as well as imparting knowledge of Hope Farm’s history……On that note, would it be possible to display artifacts, if any, of the First Nation tobacco farmers that lived and worked at Hope Farm in your Williamsburg room? … Is it possible for a pre-colonial archeological excavation to be done at Hope Farm?…If you could discuss in an upcoming video any information known about the First Nation inhabitants of Hope Farm that might be very interesting to a much broader audience???

For a number of years our local cemetery has done walks like this. Since I was related to the whole town when I was a kid, I am related to more people buried there than I can count. It doesn't matter who they choose to portray I can claim relationship.
Being an introvert myself, I don't know how you managed a whole weekend with PEOPLE all around you. I feel like I've gone above and beyond if I do an hour!

When I was in college, I roofed houses to pay the way. One Saturday, I sliced my thumb to the bone, requiring stiches. Went to the emergency room, in this small hospital, and the doctor sewed me up. The doctor told me to come back to his office to get the stitches removed when healed. When I went to his office, the receptionist kept asking was I sure I needed to see the doctor. "Yes Ma'am I do", this went on for a few minutes. Finally asked her if should just take the stitches out myself. She asked where are the stitches? Showed her my thumb. That's when she told me I was in a OB/Gyn office.

I’m sure your Mayor is so thankful for your channel and what it has done for local tourism. I knew very little about Natchez before I started watching the channel and now I can’t wait to come visit Natchez from Canada!

Glad you had the paint study done. As someone who does decorative paint restoration, you follow the science, The exterior should be stunning but some will ask why? Great opportunity for education. I have a 1884 Italianate mixed use building that we have our antique and design business in with original hand painted frescoes and stencils in several rooms in our upstairs residence, which were quite vibrant and people assume that everything Victorian was rich but muted. Just at everyone thinks colonial williamsburg dolors when they see anything earlier..
when you have that blush color, I love to see some black with it, possibly the shutters or something, looking forward to seeing how YOU see it. :) YOU do such lovely work.

So I worked in a GI office as a endo tech and I had a guy who walked in after I called a woman’s name….after go over names, date of births etc….he almost got a colonoscopy and he was never the patient!!!! Signed consents and changed too!!! On the table ready to go……the anesthesiologist came in looked at him, looked at me(I shrugged) he said are you so and so and the guy said nope……
