My Mom shared the same birthday as Elvis n she loved the music he was famous for and I liked it too. When she passed away a week after her 74th birthday in 2011, I found this CD in her collection before her funeral and had it played on a loop for the whole 3 hours...I did not know about his gospel songs n absolutely love each song and play them every Jan 8, Jan 15 and Jan 20 (funeral), light a candle and pray that she is happy with her family and Jesus up in heaven. Thanks for showing me Jesus Christ as a little boy...see you one day soon lil' lady! 🙏

I am responding to a comment from a year ago. It was the response you received from alleymayfull. Apparently, Alley hasn't listened much nor paid any attention to Elvis's Gospel music. No one could ever match his voice; let alone surpass him. NEVER HAPPEN! Elvis is a gift from God! Not a gift so he could sing Rock'nRoll, love songs, sad songs, happy songs, and not a gift from God so we all (of that era) could fill the theaters and scream as though he we're live on stage. We did just that! I was there! BUT, God's gift to us was Elvis singing Gospel Music. A voice that was not like any on this Earth. It was sent from Heaven. I truly believe that. Elvis was always "searching," looking for answers as to what God wanted him to do. He WAS doing it! He was singing Gospel music in the most beautiful, aethereal tones. No one ever matched that voice; no one ever will. Elvis was the Lord's Bell Sheep. My goodness, I truly miss that man and his voice.

His many acts of anonymous charity, spoke of his true humanity. He loved to sing about his love of God and in doing so, brought peace and joy and knowledge to millions who otherwise may never have known that "taking it to the Lord in prayer" was what made life for him honest and true. If you watch the documentary "They Sold their Souls for Rock n Roll" -Elvis is depicted as a sex crazed guy who dabbled in New Age Paganism. One of his bodyguards told how he tried to use mind control on people and even asked one of his companions/personal aids to assassinate one of Elvis enemies. If Elvis was a believer he surely did fall from Grace. Then again this could all be sour grapes coming from his former employees. We DO know as fact that he was a drug addict and took a LOT of pills every day.

From the age of 5-10 years old I listened to this album every night to go to sleep to. My great aunts raised me on Elvis, and I am the proud owner of their entire album collection of Elvis, first issue originals. I wouldn't give them up for anything as they are a piece of my childhood. Although I am not a religious person, and I don't believe in god, to this day these songs bring me peace and comfort in times of stress, because it brings me back to a time in my life when I was safe and loved.

This entire album, 14 tracks in total including the singles Surrender & Crying In The Chapel was recorded in one single overnight session at the end of October 1960. A remarkable output and no overdubs were needed either. Elvis was at a peak at this particular time- the single It's Now or Never was topping the charts all over the world and the movie GI Blues was just about to pack out the cinemas.
He would never again equal that exact moment in history in any way . He was at his absolute peak in voice , looks , acting talent , everything . He would be very good , but never again as perfect as in the early 60s .

The last song recorded that night (Halloween 1960) should have been number 13 on the album . That song was "Crying In The Chapel" . My first introduction to Elvis was by this album which my mother and grandmother had. They loved him, and especially his gospel recordings.

Yes, he sang with all his heart. He put everything he had into his songs, all of them. His voice had to be sent from God. It is heavenly. But I am prejudiced, I've loved him since 1st song recorded. I have the original 45rpm record of "Heartbreak Hotel"/ "I was the One". I have listened to him thousands of hours & have 100s of his songs. I know them all by heart.

This entire album, 14 tracks in total including the singles Surrender & Crying In The Chapel was recorded in one single overnight session at the end of October 1960. A remarkable output and no overdubs were needed either. Elvis was at a peak at this particular time- the single It's Now or Never was topping the charts all over the world and the movie GI Blues was just about to pack out the cinemas.
He would never again equal that exact moment in history in any way . He was at his absolute peak in voice , looks , acting talent , everything . He would be very good , but never again as perfect as in the early 60s .
We can be so thankful to Elvis and his Boys that they worked so hard to produce this precious kind of music. It is so inspirational and uplifting! GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

The last song recorded that night (Halloween 1960) should have been number 13 on the album . That song was "Crying In The Chapel" . It was released 5 years later in 1965 and was a major hit on all the Pop , Rock , and Country charts . The Beatles , Rolling Stones , and many others , were blown away by it's success .
