    OceanGate Titan sub ‘malfunctioned’ days before doomed Titanic mission
    #breakingnews #oceangate #titanic #submarine
    The scientific director of the company that owned the Titan sub revealed it malfunctioned days before its doomed voyage to the Titanic last year. On day four of the US Coast Guard‘s hearing over the implosion of OceanGate’s Titan sub, Dr Steven Ross spoke about a frightening mission that left him and other passengers at the surface unable to get out of the 6.7 metre vessel.
    He told the panel a malfunction caused the sub to crash into bulkheading, leaving one passenger “hanging upside down” and others hanging on inside.
    OceanGate’s founder and pilot Stockton Rush, who was one of five killed in the dive last June, was also behind the controller of the mission days before.
    “After we reached the surface, the platform had a valve malfunction and the bow of the platform submerged, tilting the platform and the sub to about a 45 degree angle,” Mr Ross said. “The pilot crashed into the rear bulkhead, the rest of the passengers tumbled about. “I ended up standing on the rear bulkhead. One passenger was hanging upside down and the other two managed to wedge themselves into the bow end cap.” He described it as “uncomfortable and unpleasant”.

    Rush really demonstrated the old adage. "Through denial, you can convince yourself of anything." He created his own version of reality and sold it to others who wanted to believe him. Given the knowledgeable advice and realistic concerns of others, Titan was bound for disaster in the real world of deep see exploration. Rush was clearly responsible for what happened to Titan, but the gullibility of the "passengers" exacerbated the situation. How to correct the problem(s) and ensure that it does not happen again remains the issue moving forward.

      I can only think Rush used this in order to dupe PH and Harding-both of whom had been on certified deep sea submersibles and should have screamed away from Rush's multi red flagged effort. No doubt they were told of the risks when going down in certified subs and Rush just claimed his waiver was nothing more than that and just red tape-adding the clincher "Would I be going down in it if it wasn't safe" Cant overlook what a persuasive snake oil salesman Rush was. When you think NASA demanded a failsafe rating of 99.99999% on every componant in the Apollo program;ie every nut and bolt HAD to work-and compare it to Rush's trips to Walmart and Camping World for parts with a "That'll do" failsafe rating , He didn't mitigate risks,he exasperated them.

    • @jules2545
      @jules2545 Месяц назад

      @@drforjc There are quite a few companies that do that. Tourist submersibles are popular in the sunnier climes where the vis is good and there a few reefs to see.. Admittedly their max depth is around 30 to 35 m. They would be built to a certain standard with well tested equipment and trained crew. As I understand these bunch of cowboys, the owner wanted nothing to do with pale males (i.e. the experts on submersible design) and prefered the modern progressive approach.

    The first thing is if the person has carried out or created something extremely excellent.
    The other thing is if the person has shown extreme stupidity and arrogance that got innocent people killed.
    The latter is not really special for just the Titan tragedy but usually most tragedies that ended up costing a lot of innocent people their lives.

The carbonfibre is compressable and moved in that depth, the front part not because it’s metall and glas. How will that work only with „glue“?! The forces are unbelievable that should be handled by that „special glue“… i am sure it is reproduceable with this insane construction… the front flies off like a lid from a plastic container when you press it together
