Ok I cracked up when he said “the friends” lol…love you Prof!
Same! Loved it 😂
I don't know Prof. Wolff personally, as many of you don't either...so, I have to assume that he probably has a fun side of him? And maybe you could even call his trying to be funny, a sort of "dark humor" possibly? For example, like he does in this episode here, he "pretends" that he's never heard of the most popular sitcom back in the day, "Friends", by calling it "The Friends"! lol Similarly, as he did last week, when he used for his example, a popular, fast food restaurants, like..."Chipotle", he pronounced it (Chip-OTL) instead of (Chip-oat-lay)! lol But, at the same time, bc I hold Prof. Wolff in a sort of "brilliant light", and that's on me, I know...when he purposefully kind of "teases" in these ways, at least I pray that it's on purpose, I feel weird about it though....That's why they call it 'DARK HUMOR"...??? IDK...I could be totally wrong on this analysis of Prof. Wolff's humor or is it a lack of co-workers around him or even THEIR sense of humor to NOT tell him b4 they run the mini class he put out here on YT...??? If anyone knows why this is, or if he does this kind of stuff all the time throughout the years...I'd love to know what's going on...Do we have to get him a brain scan?? LMAO!! Nah!...Prof Wolff? ; ) ... I hope not : ( ...

Excellent point about the USA hypocrisy, on China treatment of the Muslims and Israel/USA treatment of the Palestinians and muslims.
Xinjiang Muslim population doubled in 40 years and longevity extended by 35 percent in the same time span. Chinese state gives affirmative action advantages to minorities and makes compulsory bilingual or trilingual school courses including the native tongue and script. There are 25,000 mosques in Xinjiang. Would be nice if Israel-US treat the Palestinian Muslims and Christians so well. There is a bullet train service to Urumqi and is there one to Pine Ridge?
@@gardeyoyo Chinese life expectancy has also risen in similar proportions. How about asking the people of Xinjiang who they want to ruled by?
The US bombed these same Uyghur peoples that they’re ‘so worried’ 🙄 about as recently as 2018 in Afghanistan. 🤷♂️

“I’m convinced that if we are to get on the right side of the world revolution, the nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin to shift from a thing-oriented society to a person-oriented society…. When machines and computers, profit models and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
There are a lot of truth in that statement by the great MLK. But as an American himself, he failed to foresee how difficult, if not impossible, it is for America to get on the right side of the world revolution. And the irony is that it is a communist led government of China that has succeeded where America has failed. Not a very good future for the kind of mis-named democracy that America prided itself with.
@@spadeysay6846 the only reason MLK didnt speak on that which he probably did realize is because he was murdered, probably by the CIA

Yes, materialism belongs there, too. More concern for things than people.
I wish the Australian population were as passionate as the French people are about protecting their pensions, our government lifted the retirement age to 67 years of age and we said and done nothing about it. 🤐🤐🤐🤐

The Conservatives were going to do that in Canada too, but Trudeau said no.

What doesn't seem to be calculated is some people have jobs breathing dust and busting backs.
Ms. Taylor is brilliant. Speaking of debt as an infringement on freedom. The right normally lifts the banner of "freedom" (different definition). (later) Just finished the first 2 chapters of the book. They seem personal and universal at the same time. Sparse. To the point but lively. Diamonds. Remarkable.
The US destroys democracy. The idea that you can change the antithesis of democracy to democracy when the minority control the world is insane. The level of destruction of society by the oligarchy is unfathomable. Nothing short of an uprising can sway the control over our government by the oligarchy.

"The Friends' $1 million/ show salary was achieved through collective bargaining. The actors formed a mini-union.
Same with the cast of Seinfeld and The Jersey Shore. I wish more people understood that, at every level, we can and should understand the power of collective bargaining.
Did they include all the crew, writers, cleaning and maintenance workers and support staff as well? Seriously wondering, not being snide. I know the crew and writers have unions, but so do actors, so were they all a part of the mini-union, too?
@@stephaniecarrow4898 I don't know the info on the crew. I read about it in a article on business insider (I can' t post the link because it gets blocked) But there might be more articles about it. It would be nice if the crew was included, the studio made billions from the show.:)

I applaud you and your guest from the bottom of my heart for your humanitarian ideals, and simultaneously weep for those ideals because the juggernaut of blind capitalist greed has already devoured them. The monied few are going to drive this train right over the cliff. Read the latest IPCC report if you have any doubts.
the train is going over the cliff, only stoppable if "WE act now" who is we? us me and you? what are we supposed to do? The US government wont act, because the ability to pass laws in our political system takes too long. I predict our only hope wil be China, acting on its own along with Russia, to stop the disaster, and then both of those threatening the United States, in a scenario where Europe will not come to our aide but will in fact be doing its very best to go carbon neutral in time to stop the catastrophe approaching. Nothing will stop Global capitalists from producing CO2 except a tyranny of those who are hopefully aware and focused. The United States government? no way. too slow.
Maybe our NSA and CIA acting clandestinely against our own capitalist polluters...and ohers, but it wont be by laws passed hru the house and senate

It takes a lot more people than the actors to make a successful show, none of which likely saw such exponential income increase or any pay after the show was cancelled

The US regime is in very serious of one, and a very revolutionary one.
Why do we as sovereign citizens allow winner-take-all markets, superstar salaries, and billionaires? Bring them back down to earth! There should be limits on top incomes, and a democratically approved income distribution.
What crosses my mind is: what about the support staff on friends ie writers, lighting, makeup, did those people get a nice piece of the pie too?

Nice!
Spot on! 🤣🤣🤣

The economic hardship, recession, unemployment, and loss of jobs is enough to push people into financial ventures.

@Daivid Mattos Gold doesn’t have any actual intrinsic value either and the very nature of it’s rareness creates artificial scarcity - good for speculators, bad for people who work with tangible (especially perishable) goods. There’s a reason populist farmers in Kansas wanted to get off of that terrible scheme of a ‘standard’ at least as far back as the 1890s. ‘Decentralized’ is just a dressed up way to say privatization.
Thank you for mentioning Palestine 😍
A good example are drones. The US deceided to stop importing the parts from China. The result was a loss of 95% efficiency of the drones. At the same time prices have increased by the factor of 8 - 14!!

It may take a lot more suffering and misery before enough people are desperate enough to be willing to challenge the power of concentrated wealth and forsake the short term individual rewards it offers for supporting it for the long term social rewards that would come from exerting real control over it.
Some people will never come round to realize how bad the system has screwed them. Others realize how the system has has screwed then but will resist actually attempting to fix things because they are afraid that the changes that will result will be inevitably negative and others just that can see that there's a problem but don't get come to the right source of the problem.

Talk about inflation. I remember the strike against Caterpillar tractor in the late 70s. What a cluster! Workers making 32$ an hour with full benefits while the Union resented the company making big bucks because their International market was expanding. As usual the Unions crapped in their nest. Such a shame. Now workers have no one.
I was not expecting 'Friends' to feature in an EU episode, but here we are. Thanks!
The friends 🤣 I love the good professor!
The ultimate sad truth is that the "average working class American" has been dumbed-down for so long that they couldn't even understand the truisms of which you speak. In short : you are "preaching to the choir". You are spot-on in all you say but how do you communicate those truths to those that are just sitting in the pews? Most everybody that follows your program are already in sync with all you say.
Continuing the "sitting in the pews" analogy, perhaps we who are already in the know could become "disciples", taking his series of short messages to friends and family.
Astra has a great message and an awesome name!
"Under capitalism, dont ever make the mistake that people are paid what they are worth"

To much best Greetings Mr R. Wollf!!!
I agree with you 100%!!!!!! We put way too much value on the entertainment business....
Thanks for the incredibly intelligent guest! I am pleased that there are young people of this calibre in America. I wish there were more like her. You have a future with people like this.
It's to bad that the person that brought "the friend" up to prof wolf didn't tell him this fun tidbit. When the 6 main characters started friends they decided that they would all ask for raises as a collective. That not one of them would make any more or less than the other. I would be interested if this happens or has happines in any other t.v sitcom's.
Magnificent point that should be exposed more highlighted. Since unionizing is such a priority now a days. Unionizing not necessarily being a " law abiding" political need. But in fact a priority that overcome any legalities.
IDK. Have you seen how gullible people are?! Nina Turner just lost a 30 point advantage to attack ads claiming she was a crypto repugnican. Now maybe it is an American thing? I highly doubt that.
My Dear Professor I'm telling the mainstream media they need to invite you on more often and soon
Brilliant first time I have watched immensely educational, gives me hope for those who will come after me.
The actors made a million, the WB made a billion, and the US debt goes up a trillion a year.

"The US Lefties Rises to Remake the World." That is correct. . . . it's the word "remake" that one should be concerned about.
Stay strong!
The abbreviation eu is also used for European Union.
Astra Taylor, filmmaker and debt rebellion activist, makes so much sense. We have powerful gatekeepers that will not allow her plans to happen. We have got to get past the gatekeepers to make the US work for the people. Large corporations and the super wealthy are so afraid of losing their money and control that they will fight anyone who wants a share of of the billions they have. They hide it offshore to avoid paying taxes which ties our states and communities from providing services for the public.
That unfairness has spread a whole lot of misery and death around what could be a great nation.
Our laws must be enforced on everyone. The unfair, harmful laws have to be reformed or dropped. Censorship and propaganda confuses and controls people. A free flow of ideas and discussion is blocked. The pandemic has split people up and prevented groups from organizing.
Massive unregulated money in politics has to stop. That's how we ended up with the corporate/Federalist judges that keep us in line.
Money prevents progressive candidates from winning. If they do win, these representative officials face obstruction from big campaign donors and lobbyists. We are in a deep depression, mentally and physically.
Astra Taylor's idea of using our combined debt as power is new. It is exactly what companies do, and we can too.
No teacher, or warehouse worker, or farmer, will EVER make what propagandists do. Nevermind that you can't eat propaganda.
The title seems promising, the only thing the world is wishing for. The better life for the whole world, and a heck of a lot for the poor people of US and the workers, with them everyone.
I don't remember "The Friends" being a thing in the 90s
Is that all you took from this episode? Says more about you than Prof Wolff
She’s right😁
I don't know how many people have become aware, but I have to say China's success is far beyond capitalism or socialism/communism, though they constantly claim they are a socialist country due to historical reasons. Indeed China's success roots deeply in its unique culture and civilization which revives through their top strategists Chairman Mao, Deng Xiaoping, and their successors.
Westerners tend to think in models, or ideologically in modern political terms, probably shaped by long religious tradition or Bible education. However, the actual world is far more complicated than any existing models. Unlike Westerners, Chinese have never been in that situation except for the ~20 years during Mao's period. Thus, they are more liberal in thinking, way more open to any good ideas that prove to work.
Lol I'm gonna start calling it the friends
I understand the pay gap between different professions, producers and actors are under agreement contracts. You can't compare an actor/actress to McDonald employees, it doesn't make sense. The American and Chinese competition is a lost cause because the wages and cost of living in America is way too high. Furthermore, America get themselves into situations where they should not be in like Afghanistan, Taiwan, Xinjiang. Ask Americans if they really cares what happens there which doesn't benefit Americans in terms of a better life in the United States.
I'm actually surprised things have held together at all. The system is so corrupt and imbalanced - I'm honestly surprised people like Bezos haven't been hung much less taxed.
“The Friends”
🔥 🔥 🔥
Well that was quick.

Minimum wage is two Starbucks caffe mochas per hour
Exactly. People cant buy back the products that their labor produces. A mcdonalds worker works a minimum wage of 7.25 to 12 bucks. Lets say a worker makes 100 dollars worth of products in one hour. He cant buy back the products he creates due to his low wage. He makes 100 dollars of products in hour but is paid 7.25. This will eventually create an unprofitable market and it crashes.
Thank you, prof Wolff for arming me with arguments to argue with the gullible people around me who believe America is sincere in it's criticism of China in regards to China.
I appreciate the correct criticism of capitalism and the hope purveyed in cooperatives. Making the change will not be easy. I participated in a worker owned business that failed because we were not prepared on many levels. Mondrogon offers some insights into the preparations needed and the ongoing compromises they struggle with. Perhaps you could comment on the Mondrogon project. Without preparation failure will continue and the path forward wil be scary for those that have a choice between leaping forward or lapdog life.
Love you Richard but it's not "The Friends", it's just "Friends".
