Hi, I really like this idea with the cement going straight onto the balloon, I also like the odd shape opening for planting. Only recently found your channel and website, I like your ideas. Reading your subscribers comments, I was just thinking if there's a lot of mixed cement left over, maybe plan ahead and have some smaller projects lined up to use the leftover mixture. I am looking forward to doing some of these myself in the future.

Does cement planter hold up? Won't it break easily? Why not add sand to cement to make it stronger?

Hi Jen, it really doesn't roll because the shape is imperfect. If you are trying to get it to sit at one exact angle, then you can just build up the one spot you are planning on positioning it and flatten that spot.

I have a question: If i wanted to make a much larger version of this say a foot high, should I use something to reenforce it? like squares of wire mesh in the "mold"? And if i did I wast thinking it would have to be a certain thickness. Also I was wondering, is there a way to sand the edges on the opening of one of these planters? Thanks!

Yes, you can sand the opening. The easiest way to do it is to make a homemade sanding block- made with Cement All. Just shape the cement into a sanding block shape and let it cure. This will quickly and easily sand very rough edges. If you want it super smooth, just use a finer grit sanding sponge after the cement block.
I havent started my cement journey yet, but i love your vids! I do have a question about how to get rid of the left over cement, and does just rinsing the bowl disolve it enough should i have a designated wash space outside? Lol so many logistical questions lmao
Hi Amanda, that's always a predicament for me. Disposal isn't very environmentally friendly. If you are rinsing, make sure you don't rinse it down any sink drain or you will ruin your pipes. You really only have two decent options. Either let the cement dry in the bowl make sure the bowl you use is really flexible) and bend it after it dries and much of it will crack off and you can throw it way.
Or take a paper towel and wipe out as much as you can. Often this is good enough. Sometimes I will still need to use a garden hose. It is said that run-off from concretebut hopefully
@@ArtsyPrettyPlants im gonna have a small area w gravel to dump my acrylic paint water would that area work to spray down equipment? I will try that to start. I havent even finished working on the area to make it workable that may take me a few months lol. Thank you for all the vids and the website answered so many questions and gave me so many ideas! Can you use flexible steel mesh or handwear clothe in these and medium size planters!
If they are larger, fiberglass mesh tape or hardware cloth will help, for sure.
What about sealing? I know there are concrete sealers but they seem to be expensive. Would you use krylon matte finish for instance?
It depends on what your reason is for sealing it. I don't seal my planters usually. If you are trying to keep it looking white, then Krylon would be okay, but you would want to spray it inside and out. It will definitely help, but it will be better for plants if it isn't sealed. You will be retaining more moisture (and maybe too much) by using the spray or any other sealer. If you aren't planting succulents inside, then it isn't as much of an issue.

Thanks! I put the slurry coat on the inside because I wanted the outside to get it nice and round and even. It was also quicker and easier to just pour it inside.

Hey new to this just wanna know does this break itself as its cement or do we need some fixture for stronger planter??
If you are in the US, use Cement All, it is premixed with sand already and will not break- it's incredibly strong. You cannot use a portland cement only, it will need sand mixed in. Try a a ratio of 2 cement to 1 sand. It cures after 24 hours and is a litter more difficult to do than with the 1 hour curing Cement All, but very doable still.
Do you use only sand and cement and at what ratios please.
Why not put the ballon IN the bowl--the pour cement around the ballon?
I eant to tey this, but doesn't the balloon planter tip over, when the bottom part is round?
Not at all. With soil in it, it just settles in one spot. It’s not perfectly round like one made in a factory. I have a couple dozen of these in use and they don’t roll.

Did you use a sealer that wasn't showed?
I didn’t use a sealer. I haven’t used a sealer for any of my cement planter projects. You should be good without it!
@lostpelican1883 Hi, if you are planting succulents, then no. They prefer alkaline soil. Most other plants do not. So yes, you can soak then for 24 hours to remove the alkalinity in the cement.
I have tried this but when the cement dried it came off inform of flakes why??

Study with me It’s important to use Rapid Set Cementall. I have more details on my website about the materials. It’s much easier with quick setting cement. Plus it’s a bonus that you can do the whole thing in less than 2 hours. Cement All is more white than regular Portland cement too- if that matters to you. I use Cement All for most of my projects. It’s just so easy. It’s not as fussy about the amount of water it needs. It’s more forgiving, but ya gotta move quickly as it sets in 10 minutes.

No, only if you want to. I plant succulents in these and they love the cement. I rarely seal cement planters.
just whater add cement just that?
You just add water to the exact brand of mix I used. It's a pre-mixed fast setting cement. I have the link in the description above-to the materials on my website for that mix.

the process should have been easier if coated with paper glue first and then brush with white cement or plaster of paris...
You have to be using special craft cement because nothing I have tried at the hardware store is as smooth as what you use and yours works like clay. What I have is gritty and does not smooth out. Please use brands of cement and where to buy
