Yes it is important to pre lighten your hairs before using the dye or else the colour won't show off. I would suggest you to go for the streax ultralights 😅 . I've highlighted my hairs for ig 5 times in total and from my experience streax ones are better than paradyes ( they are cheaper + a good start for a beginner)

After up to 4 washes, it fades every time you wash and gives off a blond shade which doesn't look nice. You can coat again then.
