Awesome video John and Mazzy man I learned so much from you guys I didn’t know about Christie . I saw Fleetwood Mac 3 times the 3rd time was a blessing sher returned man her voice was beautiful and what was missing big time in the group I was so sad of her passing this was a beautiful tribute John and Mazzy thanks for this take care . 32:00 late to this wonderful conversation and tribute, well done ! So glad he woke you up to discuss the passing and music of a rock of a woman , RIM….(rest in melody) ..
Thank you both for this video. Christine’s passing has touch me deeply so I appreciate the conversation you shared. Growing up in the 70s I was a casual fan of FM with Lindsey & Stevie. When The Dance came out I was obsessed with that CD. As I’ve gotten into vinyl I’ve purchased so many FM and solo albums of Lindsey, Stevie and Christine. Like you Mazzy I bought that RSD release last week. I bought it a bit hesitantly at the time as it was $$$ and I wondered if I was just doing it for FOMO but I’m very glad to have it now. May Christine RIP. 🙏
I think my favorite Fleetwood Mac song may be “Why” from Mystery to Me or “Prove Your Love” from Heroes are Hard to Find. Such hauntingly beautiful and underrated masterpieces. Thanks Mazzy for your thoughtful tribute to Christine McVie.
Great idea 💡 from both of you to make this video on this fabulous band. One of my favorite bands as well. And thanks to John for showing the live album, which is my favorite record from theirs. In fact I discovered them with this double set and purchased their albums afterwards. This is a smart move to make an English/American video on them. Great tribute to Christine McVie. Take care. Bruno
She was one of the greatest singer/songwriters in rock history. I have enjoyed her thoughtful, highly melodic songs since the wonderful album Bare Trees in 1972.
I saw them 11/5/1971 at Dorton Arena Raleigh, N.C. . I really was just becoming familiar with their music. I remember being confused about their vocal arrangements because her voice was so different from Danny Kirwan’s she actually had a bit deeper voice. Bob Welch had a wonderful voice as well. I wasn’t close to the stage so I actually didn’t realize Christine was a female until she stood up. The sound in that venue was horrendous so that didn’t help. I went out and bought Future Games I really loved that album. From there I found out they had been a blues band . So I started picking up their previous albums and just went crazy over Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac. And I remember hearing Christine on a song backed by Peter and FM before she was a member but she had contributed background vocals and keyboards on their earlier albums. She was wonderful and I really think she came into her own as the years went by. Check out her early cover of Etta James “ I’d Rather Go Blind “ I love her interpretation.
hey mazzy...good to see john with you...and a really crackin' overlay of fleetwood mac's tenure as well as being a nice tribute to christine...it's great to show where your heart and history is....i thought one of you would show the lindsey/christine 'solo' record....their kinship was very special, both in and out of mac....all brilliant.....hope both of you stay well....god bless christine....peace...rocky
Christie and Lindsey were the highlights of Fleetwood Mac. Christine’s Warm Ways, over My Head and Songbird were lovely. But, Tusk is my favorite FM album and I bought it when it first came out in ‘79 and to me it is their white album. Christine’s voice was so soothing, and they were never the same without her, or Lindsey for that matter. RIP Christie McVie.
Hi Mazzy - great tribute! I’ve just been watching the Songbird documentary on BBC iPlayer and it’s so lovely to see her talking about her Fleetwood Mac days and the love and respect from everyone that worked with her. I get the feeling it’s been drawn from many interviews with many different musicians over varying periods of time but well worth a watch. It also features her beautiful version of “I’d rather go blind” with Chicken Shack - just stunning. I’d recommend watching it if you can. I certainly had to wipe a few tears away after watching it. I’m heartbroken… Love from 🏴
I'm old enough to have seen Christine with Chicken Shack several times, once on the same bill as Mayall and Fleetwood Mac at London's Saville Theatre. Great days. Speaking of reel to reel and the Beatles - John Peel played Sgt. Pepper for the first time anywhere and we recorded it!
The concert for Peter Green that was produced by mick Fleetwood is one of my favorite box sets. Christine played in that concert. Such a great band. Enjoyed this video very much.
Thank you, Mazzy and John, for this video. I also like the 2016 triple LP In Concert release, mostly recorded at Wembley in June of 1980. It includes "Oh Well" and six songs by Christine, opening with her "Say You Love Me" and closing with "Songbird".
Thank you Mazzy and John for this retrospective of Christine's whole body of work, including her early songs before Buckingham/Nicks era. Fleetwood Mac have been my favorite band since I was a little girl when my mom bought Rumors and Heroes Are Hard to Find on vinyl. I have been collecting more of their albums including solo projects. Christine's solo album from the early 80s is a hidden gem and I recently picked up her album with Lindsey and her last solo collection Songbird last weekend. Both sound amazing and uplifting.
Rumours is like Mozart: I can imagine reasons for disliking it, and how people might get bored of it from over-exposure, but still just listen to it and what does your ear say? Aren't those songs catchy, and so beautifully arranged? On that album Christine McVie wrote 'You Make Loving Fun': I think it's a disco song, and it's my favourite bit of disco ever. Just for that song she'd get my vote as a great songwriter, but add Songbird, Never make me Cry, Never Forget, Wish you were Here, etc. Very sadly missed.
No one really saw this coming, including me. I did a video about her contributions on each FM album through Tusk, in tribute. Appreciate this chat, Mazzie.
This is the 2nd time I've watched your great chat about Christine McVie and Fleetwood Mac. I have a question for both of you, do you think the Buckingham Nicks album will ever be released on CD. I found a excellent bootleg of it and made my own CD.
As a fellow brummie I would like to follow Johns channel but can never find it ? What’s it called - nice video - agree The Dance is a great cd and concert film
Can’t believe you guys didn’t mention Christine’s time with Chicken Shack, especially their only hit in the U.K. the Etta James song, I’d Rather Go Blind, in April 1969, she also wrote a few songs, one on the debut in early 1968 ‘When the Train Comes Back-including a couple with Stan Webb on Chicken Shack’s next album OK Ken. Having seen them in that wonderful music year live in early 1969 it still stays with me 😊. RIP❤
All best wishes to the wonderful Christie McVie and her family, but the greatest, most overlooked, song on 'Tusk' must be 'Beautiful Child'. There's no other song like it, the harmonies are exceptional, the arrangement is beautifully understated and what other rhythm section could lay back like they do on that track? I don't know if Christie played the keyboards, I hope so because they're perfect.
The Brummie ( Birmingham ) chap is right about the Live album of 1979 released in Europe because the final track “ I’m so afraid “ really rocks out . As it happens , Just Priest do a fantastic version of Green Manalisi during their live album “ unleashed in the east “ ❤️from near Bournemouth ( pronounced Bore - muff not Bourne - mouth as the soccer pundits do now the team has reached the big time . End of English lesson ….
True. A Los Angeles area station (KLOS or KMET) played the album in its entirety... no commercials. So I taped it, as many others did. That, along with the high cost, blunted sales. For me, and maybe others, there was too much bizarre Lindsey songs, so I declined to purchase it until many years later. I remember Christine interviewed, saying they had to give Lindsey full reign of the album and allow him to do what he wanted, or else risk losing their guitarist.
@@AnorexicMan is that track off the Fleetwood Mac album with a baboon fruitcake cover? If so, thanks for the tip.I first encountered that one while rummaging through my land mum's stacks back in Selly Oak circa 1991 and I'm not afraid to admit that it unsettled me so much I kept flipping through the Fs and Gs all the way to Hall and Oates before I finally recovered enough to un-sleeve Man Eater onto her table.
It saddens me that there were no tributes or celebrations of life when Peter Green died in July of 2020. A founding member of the real "Fleetwood Mac."
Chris was so integral to Fleetwood Mac since she wrote and sang many tracks, especially as such a constant member after the Green-era. She was as integral to the band as Mick and John. Without her, Fleetwood Mac practically isn't the Mac.
Her collaboration with Buckingham took her to a higher place in my opinion. They worked very well together. Isn’t It Midnight off of Tango is a great example… Incredible melody, lyrics, production and a blazing solo by Lindsey.
@@mazzysmusic And if you don’t have an original press of Tango, try to find one. I agree it may come off a bit compressed on first listen (i like it personally for the music) as it was a DMM press i believe. But it really does a good job of presenting that analog/digital hybrid sound that Lindsey perfected nicely.
Bob Welch was not my favorite period, but some good, just not my fav. Love the transition period between Kiln House and Bare Trees, they put out a great single "Butterfly', They are kind of a different band after Lindsey and Buckingham, and they sort of teetered on the edge of being Crosby Stills and Nash, without the machismo. Mick is the best at sitting right in the pocket, next to Ringo and very natural drummer, playing songs and not just beats. Fun to hear others appreciate Christine McVie, always my favorite of the later incarnations of Fleetwood Mac.

Christine had such a soft and mellow voice, distinct from Stevie Nicks who had a “you either like it or hate it” kind of voice style.
I can listen to Christine all day. But I can only take so much of Stevie before I have to switch back to Christine.
I love nearly all of Christine's songs, but her song "Why" is my favorite.

"Homeward Bound" is brilliant, one of my favorite Christine-penned songs. She rocks, and the multiple lead guitars soar!
