Yes! You are out of time when splitting and stacking wood. It's you and the wood. And at that moment, it's all you need.

I would experience that when I was running ( in my younger days). Now, when I am pulling weeds in the yard I am able to get to that place. It is so nice to experience that. Glad you shared that with us

I get it when mowing grass or blowing leaves (even with the muted sounds of power equipment).

Flow state! Alan Watts talks about that a lot - that when you play or dance, for instance, you’re doing it just to do it, not to reach any particular objective.

For myself, I can also get to this state with a gas saw. It's running well, I can hear it sing to me, and it and I, are cutting.

Definitely not making this up. I wish we could have more moments like these with all the ups and downs of life it’s nice to escape our minds once in awhile and just live in the moment. God bless!

100%, I split to be calm, splitting wood calms me. Unfortunately my firewood processing area is road side, I get the occasional passerby that has to ask,” I see you out here all the time, why don’t you just get a splitter?” To which I respond “ doing this keeps me out of jail” Then ,mysteriously, I never see them again😆

That's a great answer. I sometimes say splitting wood by hand keeps me out of trouble. Though I never thought of that kind of trouble.

Harvesting and processing firewood is a spiritual experience. It connects us with our ancestors, 👍🪓🌲🇮🇪
