That just shows the level of obsession and locked in mentality Reid has with his organization and that mindset wins the big ones.
100% EXACTLY on point. The Niners players not knowing the new ot rules didn't lose them the game. Maybe Shanahan's decision to receive the ball first was but either way that's the difference between the 2 squads and the REASON why Chiefs have 3 SBs in 4 seasons 2 vs Niners.

@anthonysmith3 nah, even i understood what Kery was saying and I'm both younger and was never in the nfl, so Sherm obviously had no clue the sudden death rule from a long time ago was a thing. You can see how surprised he was when skip n key started describing it to him

Even in the unlikely event that the Niners scored a TD AND went for 2 on the first drive, the Chiefs would be playing 4 down football. The team to possess the ball 2nd has an advantage either way.
If it was the old rules they still would have lost since they kicked the field goal. Also, the referee explained the rules to them. All of America heard it.
What’s crazy is that if they knew they 100% would NOT have received. If I have the lesser QB I want four downs and know how much I need to win. I want to force them to go for two and increase their difficulty not my own. I’m not giving Mahomes the knowledge and ability to have four plays to get what he knows he needs to get. Shameful
I love this! I remember when Seattle played Green Bay in NFC Championship and it went into OT. Fast forward to the Mahomes Allen AFC Championship, the rule got changed because of that game. Now Mahomes beat the 9ers on a rule they wanted changed. I Love it!
Of course Andy didn’t take up for Kyle. He’s several coaching levels ahead of him. Kyle is arrogant, and his arrogance caused him to try to show Purdy = Mahomes. Ravens already tried that, and failed.
The problem if you watched the game was after the 49ers kicked the FG the 49ers defense didn't go after Patrick the DBs were playing 5 to 7 yards off the ball in the opening drive after Patrick got the ball. The defense was to lackest and let Patrick get into a rhythm
i think that shanahan and the playrs should have plans for every eventuality. its staggering that a rule that has been in around 2 yrs was not in their heads . 49ers seemed unprepared for ot
Game clock got players thinking it another quarter or full game! Well they don't hire them for college degrees! Stanford now offering Football OT rules 101.
Kyle showed his lack of experience of play calling in the critical moments of the game. 3rd and 4 end of the game. Give CMC 2 chances to pick up 4 yards for a 1st down. Then 49ers could have ran out the clock and kick a game winning field goal. Never ever give Mahomes a chance with the game on the line. Mahomes going to come through.
The ref was standing right there on the logo explaining it to everyone in plain english. How could u then say you didnt know? They still lost with the old OT rules so too bad whiners.
Richard it used to be first to score wins in OT during the playoffs, then it was changed to 1st to score a TD, and now to each possess the ball for at least 1 possession and then if both scores 1st to score again wins.
Sherm is really riding for Shanahan. It doesn't matter if the players knew the rules or not. Shanahan made the decision to recieve the ball so he's the only one that needed to know the rule. Period. The fact is he made several questionable decisions and has a lengthy record of bad decisions in big games.

I guess San Francisco focused on their media availability the past 2 weeks than the actual Superbowl.
Listen to the Raven's interviews before the AAFCG and the 49ers interviews before SB LVIII. They sound identical. Then listen to the Chiefs in the interviews answering those questions. That difference in mindset is why KC is having a parade tomorrow. It's like the driver that looks at the front of his hood driving down the road vs the one looking half a mile ahead.
Only thing I don't like is the "three-peat" talk. Just keep it to, "we have more to do." Because not getting to a 3-peat might be deemed a failure or be demoralizing. More to accomplish allows you many avenues to further and greater success without limiting it to "this one goal."
one of the lamest excuses i’ve ever heard. this is a new low of excuses for the 49ers.
Excuse? Which one of these guys is a Niners player? The media writes the narrative. The Niners didn’t use an excuse. They said Mahomes is just too good
@@gunner_mikeIf they didn’t know the rule why even elect to receive the football
@@gunner_mikeFacts, media pushes it hard, most players are taking the L humbly
@@gunner_mike Arik Armstead and Kyle Juszczyk both admitted they didn't know the rules, idk about any of their other players since they're probably too busy inventing other excuses
As a 49 fan it's not it gets worse smh
My question is why are there 2 sets of rules for regular and post season then separate rules for the SB. Shouldn't there just be rules for the game period
They explain the rules before every game going into overtime regarless of regular season or playoffs/superbowl
Chris jones said the refs came to their practices both teams and explained it to them word for word the new overtime rules and and yes it’s only been one over time in the superbowl before the rules
Not only that, in the interviews immediately after the game, almost every single Chiefs player was laughing about how tired they had gotten because Andy and coaches drilled it into their heads for two weeks
SF totally didn't know the rules . Kansas City did,
It's very simple. Know the rules of engagement before you engage
They changed OT rules after the bills and chiefs game from 2 years ago…
Let's say for the sake of argument that 49ers truly didn't know the new rules. Chiefs knew because they essentially helped create that rule lol. Chiefs had the advantage.
It only applies for the playoffs, hence the confusion.
I only knew about it because they tried it out in preseason last year.
I had no idea that the time clock was meaningless though.
@@robertm3951 To a certain degree. However, if the 49ers were to have the drive last the full 15 minutes and then score the field goal, then that's different. Although if that happened, that would be an all out embarrassment on the Chiefs defense, but it could have happened.
@@brienmiller5129 It does not matter if the time clock runs out.
Both teams get a chance to score in OT no matter what.
@@robertm3951 But then why have a game clock on the first possessions? What if the team that gets the ball first uses the full 15 minutes of the first overtime? Will it mean that a 2nd overtime is needed? Yes I know a scenario like that is very unlikely, but stranger things has happened.
Didn't the ref explain the rules during the OT coin toss?
I know I heard it when I was watching the game.
If I can hear it and know the rule, there's no excuses. Lol😅😅
They always explain the rules before overtime starts there has been plenty of overtime games since the rule change this is what baffles me the most 🤣
sherm act like he still playing for the niners lol
Man might as well be in bed with shanahhan and his wife 🤣
Oh these guys are professionals even if their coach didn't tell them they should have known excuses after excuses.
4:30 "It's concerting" . I think he means disconcerting, as in "It's disconcerting someone says concerting. "
He said it's concerning.

Sherman's San Francisco bias is ridiculous.
San Francisco bias for holding the individual players accountable?
Which makes me all the more happier that san fran blew it yet again 🤣
I feel Sherm I am an Eagles fan, I sounded dumb defending Siriani this year too
richard sherman was so confident that he knew the old OT rules 🤣 thank god for keyshawn
Imagine the embarrassment had the 49ers scored a TD in OT and rushed onto the field thinking it's over...
Two things can right. Kyle is one of the top coaches in the league and also he’s a big time choke artist in big time moments. Lastly, the Niners first it was the practice field, then we lost Greenlaw, and now we don’t know the rules. Yikes high maintenance cry babies.
Been saying that
Funny thing is they talk about the cowboys Superbowl drought but no Superbowl since 1994 plus the last 3 times they go they lose u gotta be kidding me wat was debo saying if Brock was healthy well he was healthy lol maybe next year like they tell us cowboy fans lmao
They know everything damn thing else!!!!
The way I see it, it’s less about Niners not prepping or knowing the OT rule - but more about the meticulousness of Reid and Chiefs for going over OT strategy over the course of the season.
49ers should start training camp with OT rules and plays 😂
Sheerm said "if"....um no sir , I need that's same energy
Yep, all post season he was shooting down all of the IFs that led the 49ers to the playoffs
Now he’s coping HARD 🤣
Mehhhh
I think it’s always better to own your own destiny and dictate the other team’s gameplan instead of letting them dictate yours.
49ers taking the ball first was literally what the Chiefs wanted to happen. SF didnt dictate jack squat
It's almost like Shanahan was not expecting it to go to OT and therefore never considered that possibility
Naw in the early 2000s it was a field goal , sherm wasn’t in the league then
He’s the Head coach, it’s definitely his responsibility to be sure his team knows the OT rules. The fact that he wants no blame on Shanahan is ridiculous and to say he was 90% sure about knowing the OT rules is basically saying he had no idea.
Up 10 woth the better team and they kept throwing ....
😂 Say it again.
Same thing he did in Atlanta. Dudes an idiot 😂😂
First down at Chiefs 44 after Mahomes gifted them int and Shanahan elects to throw, throw, throw oh and throw some more. Imagine being the NFL Offensive Player of the Year like CMC and getting 1 carry in the first 3 possessions after half.....ouch
@@chriswilkinson3378 That was it...Chiefs gave them two possessions to start the 2nd half and Shanahan wasted those possessions with 0 pounts while burning no clock...He did it again 🙄🤷🏿♂️
Love these nice convos with all the guys. Them getting after eachother in the "debate" show is cool, but this was a nice clean convo with 3 great minds and io enjoyed it
Bunch of excuses from the 49ers 😅 players & coaches.
Excuse? Did any 49er say they lost because of that? No. Mahomes beat us, that’s it.
Richard is learning that Kyle isn't as great a coach as he thought.
Remember when Donavan Mcabb admitted that he didn’t know there was OT in the NFL, lol!
Campbell soup overdose….
As a Seahawks fan we no longer claim you Sherm. Keep rocking with the niners and hold the L fam!
The reason he hated Jim Harbaugh was because he wanted to be a niner. He never wanted to be Seahawk. He never won a SB with the Niners but he rides with them more
Kyles Dad got him into the league. He’s a neapo kid
Stopped 49'ers from a 6th Superbowl and The Lions' 1st. Chiefs reminded the NFC they're in check.
This is like if Donovan McNabb was a head coach not knowing a game could end in a tie.
the rule changed in 2022... i did not know that if the first team to get possesion scores a TD, the other team still gets a chance. That being the case, you wpuld want the ball second in OT not first, as you would with previous rules.
Nah, you definitely wanted it first with the previous OT rules because a TD wins the game

Clearing kyle shanahan’s 🥜 out his throat 😂
The fact that sherm didn't know the first FG to win the game on first posession rule is craaaazyyyy
Naww man he understands he just didn't let Keyshawn finish his point
@anthonysmith3 nah, even i understood what Kery was saying and I'm both younger and was never in the nfl, so Sherm obviously had no clue the sudden death rule from a long time ago was a thing. You can see how surprised he was when skip n key started describing it to him
@@giggusmaximus2167 It was one year before he got into the league.
Give the defense a break? You gave the break to Mahomes instead, how can u give him 4 downs? That's crazy! 😅
It’s crazy I was at a superbowl party with over 30 people in the house, I was the only one saying why did they choose to receive the ball first. lol everyone thought I was tripping. I was like no the chiefs get the ball no matter what
Same thing here.
Crazy mistake from Kyle.
Okay, but let's say SF makes a TD and KC makes a TD or both make FGs or both don't score. Now SF has the ball next and it is now sudden death and even a FG wins the game.
@@bennmaz "but"
@@intothefrayyo I think the chances of both teams matching each other after one possession each are pretty good. I've seen plenty of games where the teams punt back and forth or match FGs or TDs in the first two possessions of the game, this game included.
@@bennmaz Patrick Mahomes was interviewed from Disneyland yesterday and said that the Chiefs would have gone for 2 if both teams scored a TD, so the Chiefs would have still had the first chance to win. No matter what, the 2nd team has an advantage because they get to play 4 down football. Even in the unlikely event that the Niners scored a TD AND went for 2 on the first drive, the Chiefs would be playing 4 down football. The team to possess the ball 2nd has an advantage either way.
Keshawn funny ash 😂😂
Should have gone for the 4th and 4 in OT. Can’t give the ball back to Mahomes
Both teams get the ball in OT no matter what
I don't care how tired the defense was, I would NEVER give Patrick Mahomes an extra down.
Show having a better flow.
Like it 🤘🏾
If it was the old rules they still would have lost since they kicked the field goal.
Shameful
It doesn't matter. They only got a field goal with the first OT possession anyway
They know exactly what they’re talking about
When Sherman sipped that cup lol
Obviously these players were not taught the new rules for the playoffs what wrong with the 49 ers Coaching send out a memo or something
What's even more embarrassing for Sherman is not knowing the older OT rules.
This wouldn't even be a problem if they scored a touchdown. When it came down to crunch time they got out played.
And that extra down is so crucial I'd rather know what I have to do with 4 downs!!!!
I love this! I remember when Seattle played Green Bay in NFC Championship and it went into OT. Seattle got ball and 1st play through a TD and went to the Superbowl. 9er fans hated it, NFL hated it, everyone wanted Brady and Roger’s SB. Everyone called for a rule change.
His father knows the rules, and the rule is explained before overtime, accept ur loss and stop winning 😢
Richard Sherman sounds goofy
It’s on Kyle people! Accountability for the coach who has lost 3 Super Bowls!!
Like Keyshawn is saying in his day, the first team who scores wins!
Richard it used to be first to score wins in OT during the playoffs, then it was changed to 1st to score a TD, and now to each possess the ball for at least 1 possession and then if both scores 1st to score again wins.
Richard Sherman trying to tell Keyshawn Johnson about the rule and he don’t even know!!!!
Sherm is really riding for Shanahan. It doesn't matter if the players knew the rules or not. Shanahan made the decision to recieve the ball so he's the only one that needed to know the rule. Period. The fact is he made several questionable decisions and has a lengthy record of bad decisions in big games.
7 teams in the history of the Super Bowl have been up by 10+ points and went on to lose the game. Shanahan has now been involved in three of them.
Shannon blamed brock...these guys cap for kyle and now everyone sees what niners fans deal with

Shanahan took the ball first because he knew if mahomes got it the game was over 🤣
The ref said the rules before the coin flip. They knew,
Yup just making up false excuses at this point 🤣
I must admit as a fan, I wasn’t aware of the rule either. But coaches and players of NFL playoff teams must be aware of it and there is no excuse if you are not.
