Dangerous Driving Conviction for 70-Year-Old Motorist in Powys

🚗 On 9th September 2023, Stephen Hayward, 70, from Great Barrow, Chester, was seen dangerously overtaking two cars at high speed on the A483 near Four Crosses, Powys. Dashcam footage shows Hayward accelerating to 82mph and narrowly avoiding a head-on collision.
The footage, submitted to GoSafe through Operation Snap, prompted an investigation. Hayward admitted to the driving but claimed it was only careless, not dangerous.
However, Welshpool Magistrates Court found him guilty of dangerous driving on 22nd July 2024. Hayward received a 12-month driving ban, a £969 fine, £775 in court costs, and a £398 victim surcharge. He must also pass an extended driving test to regain his licence.
