Thank you immensely! This method spared me countless hours that would have been spent on resetting and reinstalling all my applications and programs. I typically reinstall the operating system biannually to maintain its optimal functionality. This approach has been a tremendous time and stress saver for me.
Kudos to you!
Nice to know some options other than reset. All my windows units are imaged frequently. I use redo, and sometimes clone, zilla, noting that in the image description recently. I had a windows 10 unit go through a Windows upgrade, and completely corrupted, the solid-state drive (boot drive not found). Used redo to partition, format, restored and within an hour, I was up and running again.
Besides preserving progs & files, does it preserve all your settings (start menu, Taskbar etc)? ??? SFC - DISM - Restore points ??? Of course the best answer is periodic backups.
Thanx Brian 👍👍👍
Thank you so much I was stressing about my computer’s broken updates for days and this fixed it!
dism and cmd aswell as powershell doesnt work
still stuck with update
Nice to know this, had a problem with Win-11 awhile back and used the reset options which did work but this way would have been alot better, Thankyou Brian
Excellent. One trap, double check your language before starting down load. I was us-english but downloaded english international. Deep into the update process it prevented me from saving apps as language was different. Had to start over. But finally what a joy to have a responsive system one more. Thanks again.
Thank you. This install over existing Win11 works as you stated.
03:00 Just a tip while selecting language and region choose same as currently installed windows otherwise option for keeping apps and file will be disabled.
A good video Brian and just as a matter of interest I remember once you saying that you need to download the same language version as was installed in the first pace or else the installation will not go ahead? The other thing is that I did delete the Windows old file/folder but found that it still appears in the listings of what I have on my laptop is this normal or what? Anyway I am still a great fan of your videos mate from the days of Windows 7 - keep them coming they make my day😉
Check this out if you don't have "Mount" option on Win11
From PC-Mag:
This is usually a simple process, but sometimes a third-party program can disable the built-in Mount command so it doesn’t appear in the menu. If this happens, you will need to reset your default program to bring the command back.
In Windows 11, go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps and click Windows Disc Image Burner in the list of apps. Click the name of the third-party program and change it to Windows Explorer.
PC Mag: How to Install a Software Program From an ISO File
Thank you, been trying to fix various issues for a while now, this got everything working again.
Tried this but but will not proceed, I get a message like "Windows is in a wrong drive or you are installing an older version of Windows". This is strange
Possibly the most valuable video on RUclips today. Thank you! 🔥
Brian, does this process produce the same results as running the DISM SFC process?
so far i am not finding 11 too bad. just the normal niggles about the start menu plus i do not like the changes to the taskbar icons for open windows not being a fixed width like in they were before.
Windows 11 is OK
It doesn't work all the time. Sometimes a clean install is the only way.
when i go to run the setup file it just tells me "This pc doesnt meet system requirements". So i cant even do this
Wow, that's amazing!! One additional question, does installation require internet connection at the early stages? Cause the problem for me is it's inability to connect to the internet
Yes it does require internet acces
not working for me. deletes apps in both operations.
I DO NOT FIND SUCH A "MOUNT" COMMAND WITHIN WINDOWS S (AM ON WIN11 PRO 23H2). ALSO DO NO SEE IF THIS EXISTS WITHIN POWER TOYS. SO IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO MOUNT HERE? THANK YOU.
you can mount an ISO file from the command line in Windows 11 using PowerShell. Here’s how you can do it:
Open PowerShell. You can do this by pressing Windows + R on your keyboard to launch Run, then type in powershell and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter1.
Use the Mount-DiskImage command to mount your ISO file. You’ll need to replace PATH with the path to your ISO file23. Here’s an example of what the command might look like:
Mount-DiskImage -ImagePath "C:\path\to\your\file.iso"
Please replace "C:\path\to\your\file.iso" with the actual path of your ISO file.
Is it possible to do this from a USB or external enclosure?
If the Windows PC won't boot to desktop at all?
will it remove photoshop though
In place upgrade can be useful, but not if something about the system is clearly broken.
On an older install I messed with the WindowsApp folder and there is literally no way to write any data in there, even with taking permissions and ownership, at most you can delete, and never restore. In place upgrade didn't fix the issue. Had to complete reinstall.
Yeah this didn't fix my issues. My PC is the exact same as it was before this
thank you so much I have been trying to fix my pc for a few days👍
I was hopeful this would fix my issue and all gonna go well! But I ran into this:
Errors updating to Windows 11 - 0x8007042B - 0x4001E - The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during PRE_OOBE operation
Windows won't let me Reset the computer either, just says it can't do it! I think something was corrupted when I was doing some partition changes/moving things around. I'm not sure what to do. :S
Thanks for information helped me a lot 👍🤠
Superb tutorial! Very helpful! 😉
Im officially at a loss. I cant download any windows updates. I cant download anything from microsoft store or xbox app. Ive tried dozens of things and now its been "Checking for updates" for 3 hours. Please help
SAME,SAME
You have absolutely saved me appreciate your video!!
Hey
Apps were still there ?
Yeah, everything was saved. Nothing was removed or changed. It's just a fixed version of Windows.
@@nurunurujirojiro8701 great
once the installation gets to a certain percentage, it says that windows 11 installation failed
Hello, I was happy to see that I could reset my windows version ( 22h2 ) whitout losing all my data. However even though my system in running on 22h2 and when I download a new iso it will be a version of windows 23h2! So when I try to select the option off keeping all my data it is not possible, It seems that the choice is locked on keep nothing. Is there any other way to reinstall my windows an still keep all the files etc? I have tried to download 22h2 but that is not possible or better i can not find it. Any advise please.
Thanks for the great info and tutorial!
You forgot to mention that one should choose the same language as their system while downloading the ISO. Otherwise it won't allow to keep your settings and apps
It wont let me mount it i ended up with a windows iso file
The option to keep files and apps is greyed out, and it defaults to keep files only with the international version. It is working for me with the us english version though.
Thank you.
Dang. I wish I'd seen this before I chose to Reset my pc due to a missing Microsoft Store app. It did fix it but still have the odd "Something went wrong" error with Disney+ and Reddit in the store, so may try this. Ty.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks man it worked perfect!! 👍🏻
Won't let me delete old windows,it's stays in a cycle and then it says requires permission from administrator but I am running as administrator
A couple of quick questions, Im removing MCafee(Not needed really). Going to use Defender instead. Defender has picked up VirTool:Win32/TamperRestoreDefender trojan. Mcafee did not. However Defender takes no actions to remove it and I cant remove it. If I did this what this video suggest could it possibly fix this problem?
Hiyya Martin mate I would give ESET security suite a go I know it costs but like Brian I use it on all of my machines and it is really very thorough. Another option I would suggest is the Kaspersky rescue disk method - something I have used in the past.
No i tried many things and none of it worked. Im about to try this repair method.@@johngoard8272
What do you do if your windows problems doesn't let windows start up. Login screen, enter password, black screen. Did the command screen, scannow , it says it repaired corrupted files. Try to restart, same problem. Over and over, same process, same problem. Windows is a bad OS, always has been, always will be. Every upgrade is just giving a pig a makeover. Its always gonna be a pig. No offense to pigs intended.
do you get signed out from your microsoft acc?
What if i cant get to the desktop normally or safe mode and the startup up repeaor and reset doesn't work? Can i use a usb?
why that will be a solution to fix problem with getting windows 12
Can you put Win10 over top of Win 11 and thus revert back to Win10?
That is the best solution to a problem I have ever had with windows. I had a problem with updating my windows 11 laptop. I had some system log files missing. I thought I would have to reset my PC but was looking for an alternative without data loss. And this was it! Worked like magic!
Also, after updating successfully, it turns out there is an option to natively install windows without loss of any data or apps. Lol... ig they added something similar in the update.
Can you show us using a linux disk how to back up the windows folder just incase it screws up programs we have installed? A friend a long time ago showed me how to do this but since forgotten, if you think something might screw the system up, make a copy of the whole windows folder first using a linux disk. Then try what you have done here, if it did not fix the issue, you could delete the new windows folder and put the old folder back on to be back where you started and try something else.
You mean clone? or using commands? or software?
All we did was make a copy of the windows folder, if anything went wrong with the current windows folder, we could just rename the copied folder to windows and delete the original windows folder. I guess this has been done before somewhere. It used to work a treat, we could play around with everything, when it broke, we could just rename the windows copied folder back to windows. That way any file that was changed was put back to the way it was. Probably overkill, but it worked.
@Britec09 Mine stopping saying this processor isn't supported only option is to close the dialog window, is there a bypass in this case?
For me it fails to install windows 11. I don't know how to fix it :(
Mine is forcing me into a menu where it says Choose what to Keep and when I try and Select Keep Personal Files and Apps it won't let me.
Does it work if my windows version is Windows 11 Pro Version: Dev OS Build 21996.1?
It’s a Windows Insider Program version, I want to change it to 22h2 version but I’m not sure I can do that, please help
Thank you a lot!
Do I loose my updated drivers? (Like Chipset,GPU, etcc..)
Hello, can you do a video on how to fix "SystemSettingsBroker.exe" error event id 1000 on in windows 10. Thank you.
And what if you made changes to the Registry? Do you have to do them again after doing this? Or not?
same qquestion
Does it remove the windows insider program?
Thank you!
DVD DL With Windows 11 Pro for Workstations can created only by downloading ISO from Microsoft? As i have tried, Media Creation tool 🔧iso create windows 11 has not option for Workstations...
What about program's installed?

Reinstall the driver for the mouse. If not, replace the usb for the mouse (if wireless) or the mouse itself.
THANK YOU
how to tweak start menu like yours?
Thanks man
Now is the time to extend your rollback from 10 days to 60 days. In case you are worst off.
It make in changes to the installed softwares?
no, it only replaces Windows files and leaves everything else
I wish I knew this yesterday, I wouldn't have gone through resetting this thing. live and learn I guess.
Me too.
This won’t work if you can’t boot.
You installed Windows 11?
That was your first error . . .
Um , the elephant in the room, he is doing this on what looks to be a working Windows computer. Updates destroyed my computer so it won't boot to Windows home screen, just goes to repair screen.
my effin w11 its so broken that i cant mount a fkin iso file...
This is clearly stitch up. The computer is already working!

Repairing Windows 11 is easy: format HDD; insert Linux bootable usb drive; Install Linux. Optional: send Bill Gate$ an empty e-mail with the letters "F" and "U" in the subject.
Disable Windows update, use system restorev(which has been around since 1999 in Windows ME) and use powershell to install security updates only
Gross.

First
Yes you are
You broke my windows!! 😭
useless. My Windows 11 has blue screen
Mate please get to the point quicker!! The first 50 seconds was extremely painful to listen to... we know why we are here, you know why we are here just show us how to do it
I tried this and I didn't get the option to 'Keep personal files and apps' - it was greyed out. I only got the option to 'Keep personal files only' or 'Nothing'. So beware! Make sure the option to 'Keep personal files and apps' is available!
I got the same
try changing your language to English US
This should be the default and not the current one deleting all your installed programs!!
Followed all your instructions and the Windows 11 installation still failed. I've been having issues with Windows Update failing, so I tried your steps, but even that failed. I've done so many different troubleshooting steps that I'm out of ideas. 😭
I'm sure you've tried this too but there's a way to delete all installs manually, I had to do that once in the same situation. Google "manual uninstall of Windows updates" once everything was out of there it fixed itself. Hope you figure it out!
First, please forgive me if somebody asked about this in an earlier comment. I have always seen this method mentioned as if it was a last resort. Based on your (eloquent) description, this is not hazardous and could be used earlier in the problem-solving process or even once a year as a prophylactic procedure. On many occasions, I have encountered Windows problems for which suggested solutions involved time-consuming diagnosis, sometimes using third-party programs, and many time-consuming commands at the command prompt or other complicated, time-consuming suggestions. Only at the end, after everything else failed, was this method mentioned, or I opted to try it on my own. Would it be more appropriate to use this technique once some of the simpler and quicker solutions have failed rather than running through multiple time-consuming, complicated proposed fixes?
Thaks for the great video!
Great question! I hope you get a good intelligent response.
mine said "we couldn't update the system reserved partition"
The reset option is great if you are going to sell your computer, or return it for a refund from a manufacturer, as I have just done.
Yes, but most people don't want to lose there programs when resetting
Very true Brian. Rightly or wrongly I back up any programs I use, and clean reinstall - long-winded and time-consuming, but that's just me - each to their own 🙂 @@Britec09
I cant Tick the "Keep personal files and apps" option. Is there any Solution?
Search in control panel what is your language and download the same
@@jonaav7963so would it allow to keep personal files and apps option then?
The option to keep the files and apps are greyed out for me, any ideas?
if i reset with the save data option will the users be there?
Followed the process but doesn't help as it say nothing will be kept !
Why can’t I find English Universal as my language?
Thanks worked good, just repaired mine cheers.
Cheers
ive been battling the windows 11 "wont wake from sleep issue" going around in circles. also cant save more than 1 restore point...
Great video but my laptop crashes at the getting updates stage of the windows. ok I've got past that but now it only gives me the options of keeping personal files only. All settings and apps will be deleted?
Thank you, wish i saw this earlier as i reset my pc completely and windows still had corrupted files, but this seemed to work just fine and i dont have to reinstall eveyrthing again
