I honestly thought “paipu katto” was going to be a circumcision.
😂oh god
I thought that too, but then I remembered this conversation I had with a male Japanese friend in which I tried to explain the concept of circumcision to him, and even with Japanese Wikipedia he could not / would not believe that it is a thing that Americans routinely do to perfectly normal and healthy newborn babies. He kept insisting that you would only do that in rare cases where there was a birth defect or serious medical something requiring it.
If it's not a thing that is done over there, I guess they wouldn't have a catchy katakana word for it.

"golden hour" is actually used in english in photography and videomaking referring to the time of the day when the sun is low creating lots of shadows and giving ambience and depth to the shot compared to hours in which the sun is high up, potencially creating a flat, boring image.
The more you know
*insert the more you know rainbow*
Yeah. Lots of long soft shadows and indirect lighting, and it having a longer path through the atmosphere means most of the blues have been scattered out so it's warm light as well, which tends to make things look better.
Sooo basically photographys chiaroscuro?
That was sort of actually my guess when I was playing along with the video! I was thinking like a sunrise and sunset type of thing
I learned that from life is strange lol
According to some sources I could find, and I quote: "
The Japanese name konsento (コンセント) for electric sockets is said to originate from the English "concentric plug" in the form konsentorikku puragu (コンセントリックプラグ).[1]
Some British sockets from around 1900 consisted of concentric (co-axial) contacts, unlike the pinned ones in use today. These were in use in Meiji period (1868-1912) Japan, and the abbreviated form konsento became the accepted way to describe any kind of electrical outlet. This may have been from a split of konsento puragu into konsento to describe the outlet and puragu to describe the plug."
Which is neat!
I agree, it is neat!
This is fascinating
Yeah that's the funny bit of it.. there is actual reason to the madness but you wouldn't get it unless you understand where it comes from.
There's examples of that in most languages I believe with native words but also with loan words being bastardized as with this one in Japanese... I can't think of one from the top of my head though lol.
You would though think it would be from English. Since after WW2 the US Military engineering started electrifying Japan to US standard. That is why they use the split 240VAC distribution and 120V US pattern sockets. (for the most part)
@@magnagazoo4863 this is the neat part about culture word, old most used culture word will always have another meaning put into it instead of any new but not used much, also the basis of phonetic borrowing in hanzi in ancient china. the word 'or' iirc is originally a word for hand in cn, not sure tho, just check wiktionary for this

I just looked it up, and konsento originated from the word “concentric plug.” While in America it was abbreviated to plug, in Japan it was abbreviated to concent (the first half of concentric).

In Korea, there's a lot of imported Engrish words. Especially older words are more prevalent because we were much more influenced by Japan in older days.
Unlike Japanese, who have really poor spectrum of pronunciation, Korean can pronounce English more similar, and also, we don't borrow foreign words as frequently as Japanese guys do, so we think their "naturalized English words" are weird, either.
It may have to do with their alphabet and Kanjis. Kanjis do not, by their nature as pictograms, lend themselves well to borrowed word or foreign concepts. They would have to create new kanjis for every new concept.
From my limited knowledge, the (modern) Korean alphabet seems to be based on pronunciation, like the western alphabets. It probably helps a lot in creating/absorbing new word/concepts from abroad.

The katakana say "Can you read engrish?", for the uninitiated yet curious.
@@ody1212 beat me to it
Joey you totally missed HotchKiss, in my opinion that’s the weirdest term ever smh
Is that a hershys kiss?
Ben Sharman it's a stapler
@@uprollsariotvan twould seem you are correct
Oh you mean ホッチキス. Took me a second
It’s named after the inventor, Hotchkiss!
In some areas of the Northern US, people call them hot cakes for pancakes.
The most sour thing in the world would probably be nearly pure sulfuric acid. That, or a stronger acid, though I don't think you'd actually be able to taste the difference after that... or anything ever again. My point is that the "world's sourest thing" isn't something that you would actually eat. The "worlds sourest food" would be something like a saturated solution of malic acid because malic acid is, if I'm correct, the strongest acid that is used as a food additive.
I mean, I don’t think pure sulfuric acid quite counts as “food”
It's interesting to see not only the borrowed English (not gonna try to type the romaji for that phrase from memory) but also the dialect differences between American and Australian English
コンセント comes from an electrical outlet technically being called a "concentric outlet." But yeah nobody says that.
german takes some words from english without making that much sense in english too... famous for that are Handy being a mobile phone and flatrate for unlimited data
Don't forget the infamous public viewing :D
Handy comes from Handheld
@@nikki607that is one of the existing theories. The origin of the word is still not clear for linguists.
Jug or not? my german teacher said it was because theyre handy
@@lauralaura4362 that is also a possible origin and is pretty comprehensible, so I can see why your teacher said that.
I confirm whatever he says about shadowverse, that game is pretty good
Can confirm
It think it looks more complicated than Hearthstone. I was trying to decide wheter to install that or shadowverse. I decided neither because don't have enough memory on my phone. Need to get a bigger one.
I know this vid is from last year, but holy heck, I *LOVE* Gaijin Goombah's shirt. So cute!
Gaijin: it took me forever to drink normal green tea.
Also Gaijin but drinking the most bitter green tea: not gonna lie I kinda like it.
