- Charity Shop Gold or Garbage? Cyberman Helmet. Probably gold for a collector of Doctor Who memorabilia. It won't mean much to my grandsons as they are only interested in Power Rangers. A quick RUclips search came up with plenty of videos on this item so I am fairly confident it is a "Character Options cyberman voice changer helmet" although I didn't spot the manufacturer details when I looked for them in the helmet.

The Cybermen are a fictional race of cyborgs who are among the most persistent enemies of the Doctor in the British science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. Within the context of the series, the Cybermen are a species of emotionless space-faring cyborgs who look to co-opt human beings or other similar species to join and populate their ranks. First appearing in 1966, the Cybermen were created by Dr. Kit Pedler (the unofficial scientific advisor to the show) and story editor Gerry Davis.
The Cybermen have seen many redesigns and costume changes over Doctor Who's long run. Over the years, the show and its many spin-offs in other media have also presented a number of varying origin stories for the species. In their first appearance, The Tenth Planet (1966), they are explained as being the product of humans from Earth's nearly identical "twin planet" of Mondas who upgraded themselves into cyborgs in a bid for self-preservation. Forty years later, "The Age of Steel" (2006) depicted the Cybermen's separate emergence on a parallel universe version of Earth. Doctor Who audio dramas, novels, and comic books have also elaborated on the origins for the Cybermen, or presented alternative origin stories. In the show's 2017 episode "The Doctor Falls", it is stated that the Cybermen are the universe's great example of parallel evolution, due to the inevitability of humans and human-like species attempting to upgrade themselves through technology, thereby resolving continuity tensions in the history of the Cybermen.
A mainstay of Doctor Who since the 1960s, the Cybermen have also made appearances in related programs and spin-off media, including novels, audiobooks, comic books, and video games. Cybermen stories continued to be produced in officially licensed Doctor Who productions between 1989 and 2005, when the TV show was off the air, with many writers choosing to fill in gaps in the history of the Cybermen or depict new encounters between them and the Doctor. The species also appeared in the Doctor Who TV spin-off Torchwood, appearing in the fourth episode, "Cyberwoman" (2006).

Toy of the year in about 2007, I believe. I've been obsessed by Doctor Who since I was five, in 1968. Never had one of these, as I don't like wearing things that completely cover my face. It was made by a company called Character Options, who are based in Oldham.
It is probably another item I could have resold on eBay to enthusiasts. I used to do a lot of eBay many years ago, but can't be bothered with it now.
I was carrying one of these in an elevator once when I ran into Robert DeNiro. He grilled me pretty hard about what it was and then if it was mine, which was the killing blow. It was a highly embarrassing and yet thrilling little encounter, so thank you for that, Character Options.
Yeah the 1963 date is the copyright date for Dr Who, all this type of merchandise being made at later dates. After they've been played with they don't seem to last long. Paid £34 for mine, worked for about 2 mins so you have a good buy there!
Hi Grandad. We have Dr. Who in the US for years. I used to watch after work when I worked the night shift. I enjoyed it very much. Also I would watch a space show from the UK called "Red Dwarf" which was a bit odd but good enough. Most UK imports ran on PBS here for in the US. What the heck has happen to RUclips it has a completely different look about it. Is your view the same or has it been upgraded?
Hi Ed. Yes new layout on RUclips this morning. First thing I did was select the option to revert to "classic view". Red Dwarf is one of my favourites although like any series that went on a bit too long some of the later episodes were not so good. I also enjoyed LEXX which was in a similar vein of misfits and losers :-) Farscape started well but started to take itself too seriously. Babylon 5 was also interesting. Haven't watched any of them for years, I don't enjoy watching TV now, haven't got the patience to sit still for long enough and get bored too quickly.
GrandadIsAnOldMan Hi Again. I have never seen LEXX, Farscape i like it. Babylon 5 could not get interested in it. Now like you I don't watch TV at all. Nothing on worth watching. :)
Show your grandsons the "Weeping Angels" episode.
Scared the bejesus out of me 😁
Haven't watch it myself for years, I watch very little television, I get bored very quickly.
Tennant dr episode.. called "Blink" 👍😁
Hi from across the pond! Love the demo here. I just bought this mask from eBay UK and shipped it over to the states! Our whole family will be dressing up as characters from Doctor Who, the helmet is actually for my husband but our kids will be having fun playing with it first! Thanks again for the video and stay safe!
Hey, that sounds like great fun. Thanks for commenting 😊👍
man that is awesome i love dr who seen them all from the start ,don,t find cool stuff like that in usa
😊
Space Trak - Trademark that name lol
I remember these from childhood...may have made an appearance in the mid 70's Tom Baker era. A really odd time for Doctors, because Jon Pertwee was also on the box as Wurzel Gummidge. Therefore, when a Timelord regenerates, he becomes a scarecrow :)
According to Wikipedia Cybermen first appeared in 1966 :-) Space Trek, surprised you didn't recognise it. 1980's Sega arcade game, also the name of a Wii game and currently an online game (quote: SpaceTrek is a strategy and roleplaying game, where you're able to manage your ships and colonies in a universe with thousands of other players.) Obviously that wasn't what I was thinking of but it amused me when I googled it after reading some of the comments here. I was thinking it might have been the film with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman but that was Galaxy Quest, took me a while to drag that out of my memory. I knew it was a play on the Star Trek name. I knew Alan Rickman was in it but couldn't remember his name but remembered he was in Harry Potter so had to look up the Harry Potter cast list and work backwards from there 😊
Haha the research that follows a 'hmm' moment. Hadn't heard of the Wii or online games, not got anything new enough for such things so a lot flies by. The online game sounds a lot like Elite, back in the mid 80's.
U lucky to get it for 2 pounds I bought one the other week and now have it so I have two of them because I love it also the charity shop u go to must be very good as it had doctor who 😀
This is an old video, Drew. 2017. Yes, that was a good price. I could probably have put it straight out on eBay and made a profit 😊😆👍
