    About This Episode:
Fighting for a life in freedom
The Wild Horses of the Namib hold a powerful fascination. For centuries their origin was shrouded in mystery.
Their habitat, the barren plains around Garub on the eastern fringe of the Namib Desert (part of the Namib-Naukluft Park),
is no paradise. Nevertheless, they have managed to adapt to the harsh conditions and the arid land which fulfills all their needs. www.wild-horses...

To be frank, I have to agree with some comments on here, if these horses had a natural source of water on goingly, and grass to constantly graze, I would say leave them. HOW EVER to let them deteriorate in a small heard like this is exceptionally cruel. They are not in good condition and you can see years and years of malnourishment has taken its toll, these are not horses thriving in the wild but mearly hanging on to life and the next rainfall. Yes there is history there and some do not want to see that taken away but as humans we must ask ourselves at what expense will we go to, in order to protect history, while they continue suffering..? you can see they are desperate as they approach cars... knowing that its the car that bring the feed..I have ridden all my life, but I simply cant agree with the life these animals are enduring daily. I don't understand why they can be moved to a sanctuary with lots of open space in an area that has rainfall constantly and they can still continue to be called the Namibian wild horses. I would seriously relocate them, before it is actually to late and all will be lost......

You shouldn't be interfering with nature. The horses should be allowed to survive on their own

I love horses but, what’s the point of maintaining a feral population of horses under extreme conditions.

Thank you for all the messages and comments. The horses are currently being feed 500 - 600 bales (A mix between Gras & Lucerne) per month with a monetary value of about N$ 100 000-00 3 -4 times a week. They are not being feed fat, but they are in a moderate condition. Presently there is no confirmed scientific evidence that the hyenas are becoming a cause for concern. The Wild Horses Foundation would like to say a big thank you to all people sponsoring or supporting the cause. Without the steady funds coming in, the horses would not have made it this far.

Those horses are artificially in this area, left stranded, malnourished, even with the food being brought in, and they should be imperative they be rounded up and taken out of there to somewhere else. To not do so, is standing by and watching abuse. Period.

    • @darkmatterhafnium1522

How is this abuse? The horses evolved to the namib climate, they were brought in originally by Germans when the present day country of Namibia was a German colony, and were left when the Germans fled the British, and then the horses survived for many years with human contact and thrived

Debbie B I think it’s pretty cool and we should leave them out there to see how they evolve

meant to add I do appreciate what Gondwana are doing, but they need a far better outcome and to be relocated,, this is not the kind of terrain any horse should have to endure its entire life.
