My first AEs were dark chili (Rogues as factory 2nds). I got them to get into AEs and there were no styles I liked in Oxblood/Burgundy on sale in my size at that time. I fell in love with it the minute I unboxed them. And I grow t love it more every time I wear them. For maintenance I use the AE chili cream I got from the AE store (seems pretty good) and saphir tobacco pate deluxe for wax. Thanks to your videos and retail side I tried renovataeur on them last week and they LOVED it! WOW!
Can you please do a review of the Allen Edmonds Park or 5th or Strand in Mahogany? I'd like to see how AE's mahogany compares with it's other brown shoes. Thanks!
Kirby, been waiting for your review on the Dark Chili. Always informative, as usual. What color suit would go best with the dark chili (fifth ave)? And what color shoes would go best for a Navy and/or Charcoal suit? Thanks!
You recommended two different colors of Saphir for dark chili in two different videos, which is very confusing. Is median brown better or cognac if you want so just keep the original color?
Use a cognac for accentuating the browns and mahogany for the reds if you don’t want to alter the shade. Medium brown should be used if you want to darken it slightly
Another very nice video, Kirby. Well done. I hope you don’t think I’m nitpicking, however; Allen Edmonds has reduced the prices of its Heritage Classic Line of shoes which includes the Park Avenue. This is a permanent price reduction and not a sale price. Accordingly, the Park Avenue regular price is now $395 not the $425 as mentioned in your video. As this is a fairly new development at AE I thought you would want to know.
It is a nice shade for that shoe. It also looks good on a more casual cut shoe (e.g., LaSalle with the split "Algonquian" toe). As far as Dark Chili being the most "formal" brown color in the A-E catalog, I suppose that remains a matter of opinion. The Park Avenue in dark brown cordovan is a much darker brown, more toward the Alden "Cigar" and is more formal, if that means more restrained and darker.
Hey Kirby, thanks for the informative videos. I'm debating between getting a pair of cigar and a pair of oxblood versus purchasing a pair of dark chili. I suspect the dark chili is half way between the cigar and the oxblood on the "brown-red" spectrum. How versatile is the cigar? How different is the cigar from the dark chili What would you advise?
What color Saphir would you recommend for the “old” lighter Chili that Allen Edmonds used to make? I need new polish for my McClain Chili grain calf wingtips.
Do you know anything about JL Rocha shoes? They're in the same price category as these but I can't find much detailed info about the brand. The description sounds good but I'm hesitant due to minimal info.
I bought and returned the Park Aves in dark chili, since my feet are too wide for them. I even got the EEE, and they weren't wide enough. I'm having an impossible time finding some good dress shoes that fit my very wide and flat feet.
What’s your take on the Hopkinson Independence shoes from AE? The fact the uppers are aniline leather and they’re lined with lamb skin got my attention.
I tried to find a video review of Allen Edmonds wholecuts, alas, no video reviews exist. What are your thoughts on the Allen Edmonds wholecuts? I'm looking at the MacLennan, but can't seem to find a review of that shoe. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I had a dark chili Allan Edmon pair that got stained badly on the toe cap from Allen Edmond brand Leather Lotion. They let me exchange the pair and the new pair now got discolored and stained by renoveteur
Hi Kirby, thanks for another awesome video! My questions is: Allen Edmonds released a line of shoes this year they call the New Americans Collection, which features a “360 Speed Welt.” Any idea what this is?? Is this AEs way of re-naming a Blake stitch? What else could a ‘speed welt be’? I would love you if knew the answer! Thanks again, Morgan
Morgan Denebeim They're using "speed welt" terminology for the old Road Warriors, which were always considered recraftable. My guess is Blake Rapid stitch.
One note on this specific shoe / color - I have noticed that it does not react well to photography, still or video. I could not properly capture the color with my phone's camera, and this video doesn't quite get it either. Truthfully, it looks better than this. If you're skeptical, I'd suggest going to a store to check it out. Really happy with my pair.
It makes me sad to hear this. I owned a pair of AEs about 30 years ago and just ordered another pair. In exactly what way has the quality dropped? Are you more likely to get a pair that has issues or is every pair less well-made?
06600110 Yes their quality control has gone way down and also they have cheaped out on some of the materials for example they’re now using like cardboard in the heel stack instead of leather.
@@phototristan Do you have a pair with cardboard, or did you hear this somewhere? I have trouble believing you'd get a pair of PA's with cardboard in the heel. Is there proof of this somewhere?

Looks like you never got an answer. I just purchased some AE Fifth Ave in Dark Chili, and I have the same question as you. Have you found an answer to your question?
First video. Friend, that camera angle that captures you looking elsewhere? Ridiculous. Lose it. Now, on to the content. I see from the comment thread, many loyal and long time viewers of yours have asked you questions which you have never answered. Tells me all I need to know about you.
Just bought my first dark chili, thanks for this review. I considered cigar and coffee but decided on the dark chili.
I love the oxblood shoes 👞 with a dark navy cashmere blazer

Dark Chili will go well with a mid-gray or navy suit. Charcoal will look best with a black shoe.
@@EZBISME Thanks Ethan!

its a repost.
Kirby recorded all of these a long time ago and only posting it now it seems.
Hi Kirby, I thought that might be the case, however; I was thinking he might want to update the production to reflect current pricing. Thanks.
Hey Kirby, great video. That suit you have on has caught my eye a few times; may I ask which one it is and by which maker? Thank you

Cigar is darker, more burnt umber in shade, with much less red/orange cast (none, really.)
Would you recommand to use the cognac saphir for the dark chilli?
I would absolutly love if you could make a video on detachable collars and on morning wear. I would be very happy and thankfull.
What color Saphir would you recommend for the “old” lighter Chili that Allen Edmonds used to make? I need new polish for my McClain Chili grain calf wingtips.

I bought a pair of Allen Edmonds Ashlands on ebay. I can't find any information on them. Can you help me?
Thank you.
Hey Kirby. You have to travel to Barcelona and visit Norman Vilalta. He is making a very good bespoke shoes hear!
Tanks.
Some of Allen Edmonds shoes list their finishes as "Burnished". What exactly does that mean? Thanks for your videos!
Parts of the shoe are darker creating a fading effect
What color of the suit that fits with this dark chili? And also can I wear this with jeans ? Thanks
Other than AE, if I were to get a belt elsewhere, what other colors are similar enough to match a belt?
I bought and returned the Park Aves in dark chili, since my feet are too wide for them. I even got the EEE, and they weren't wide enough. I'm having an impossible time finding some good dress shoes that fit my very wide and flat feet.
I was thinking of purchasing a pair of dark chili brown fith Aves
Allen Edmonds dark chilli shoe polish match would be a dark brown ??

Dark chili is awesome. I just got a pair of McGregors in this color
I like your tie Kirby is it a Sovereign grade tie ?
Any major difference between the chili and dark chili?

Great video by the way.
I returned two pairs of AE and bought Carmina and Carlos Santos instead. I couldn’t stand paying for shoes with pretty obvious quality control issues.
Which Carminas did you get I'm thinking of doing the same. How was the sizing vs AE?
How does Dark Chili look in a brown suit?
i got the oxblood i like the color but i use oxblood polish . is that ok.
yes, or mahogany. Sometimes even a pinch of Burgandy.

Unfortunately Allen Edmonds quality has definitely gone down ever since Caleres bough them.
