I saw this movie, when was released in the summer of 1980. Which prompted me to but the original album. Vera Brown was gorgeous & With a powerful voice!! Here’s a remake. Although, not as vocally-acrobatic, as Ms. Brown, the lead singer brings back wonderful memories:
Smoking. The last gasp of high disco. (In late 1980 they were sharing the dance chart with The Cure, OMD, The Clash, Devo, and Roxy Music.) Puzzling why they weren't able to get the same studio make-over that the Pointer Sister's got which worked so well for them moving records (and cassettes and CDs) with the newly emerging brighter, chirpier, up-tempo 80s sound.
You must be joking. This is a very good disco song. The Pointer Sisters were so much more than dance music. Jazz, funk, county, rock, pop & dance. Any one of the four sisters Anita, Bonnie, June or Ruth had better voices than whoever this nameless singer is. This is still a great disco song!
@@mitchellpetersen7616 I was showing my ignorance at the time I posted it. Pointer Sisters and The Richie Family really aren't at all comparable. The Pointer Sisters were actually a family act. The Richie Family was a collection of studio musicians, their dance hits rose above studio product, but certainly there was not the personal vision, musicianship, eclectic interests, or personalities that drove the Pointer Sister's music.
i love this song so ('so') much. the only thing that i'd love more, is to find a new remix-edit.. just, like 'this' one!! thanks for the smoking hot post, u rock!
I was dancing in the Disco at 17 years old love this track
I went nuts over this track when i was 9 and first saw the movie Can’t Stop the Music. Still such a great track!!!

The last gasp only as far as the U S of A was concerned. The rest of us in Europe were still getting our D-I-S-C-O fix well into the mid 1980s...
