I drove a manual one of these, it was the most wonderful car I've ever driven. I'm now actively seeking an F1 version to convert to manual as the factory manuals command too much premium these days.
Not saying it's the biggest task in the car universe, totally doable from a mechanical standpoint, but 550/575 parts are expensive nowadays and to get it all working you'll better have a technician who has some Ferrari experience. For instance you won't ever find a manual Fiorano Pack car. The parts you'll need are really, really expensive, cause they are (surprise) Ferrari Parts. First you'll need a pair of ECUs, cause it's a different Version Motronic F1/Manual. There goes the first 10K for nothing. In the end you'll have parts for around 25-30K at the very least if you search the parts yourself, don't rely on new parts only and maybe have some luck with trading in an F1 gearbox. No screw has been touched to this point. Most of the converted 575s were cars that had been in the hands of the owner for long and they wanted to change to manual, so money has not really been an issue, if you are price sensitive and consider that in resale a converted car will most likely not get you the same money as an original manual this may be close to Zero money you'll actualy save. It's nevertheless a cool project and you will end up with a fantastic car, but in the end, if you want one of those with a manual the 550 is the way to go in my opinion.

While it gets very little love, and maybe deservedly so, but you failed to mention the direct precursor to the 550 styling, and arguably what began this series, in the Ferrari 456 which was their true 2+2 V12 GT car.
True. I haven't driven one nor seen one. The 456 came out in 1992, when the TR was still for sale and arguably still the flagship Ferrari. I think that's what separates the 456 and 550/575. The 550 and 575 got to stand alone for a bit as the powerful 12-cylinder-powered car, until Ferrari debuted the Enzo, of course. There's also the whole 2-seater vs 2+2 thing, but really, I think so much of that stuff is strategic marketing that companies do to separate their cars. - ZK

Agreed, this is one of Ferrari's prettiest cars. 9yrs ago you could get them for under 90k, still too rich for my blood but far more attainable than they are now.
AMT (automated manual transmissions) gear boxes are rudimentary at best. It makes sense in heavy vehicle applications like semis but I never understood why for a decade there they did them in sports cars. Also you find that if they are not constantly taken in and calibrated by us mechanics then they shift slow and rough. Huge difference in shifting performance once calibrated.
At first sight I loved this car. Hence, I bot a new 575 grey/grey. Drove it c. 15 years / 25k mi. Ur analysis is spot on e.g. ET c. 4.2sec, sticky buttons, etc. Added a Capristo exhaust instead of the Tubie bc I thot the Tubie too loud & annoying at idle. Only complaint is I didn't like the comfort level of the seats. Great GT tourer. Ended up repacking it w a MZB SLS Black Series. Thx for the vid.

Thanks for this great review. If not the best, at least top 3 on the tube with regards to 550/575. Great stuff. I have owned my 550 Maranello Schumacher Options car (roll cage, carbon interior, carbon seats, sport exhaust, etc) for 25 years. I have been offered good money for it but can't get rid of it because of it's looks and ride. Newer cars are faster, but the Maranello still puts on a great show every week end.

Haven't seen too many 550/575's , but when I do, just for a moment, it replaces my (beloved) 360 as my favourite Ferrari. Depending upon how they appreciate, and how quickly I get back to the UK - it's between those two as to which would be my first 'Prancing Horse'. I love these and couldn't agree more with you... but the Prodrive 550 Racecar (in red) with the wider arches is just the absolute best and glorious to look at!
It's slowly growing on me
I like the (speed) boat analogy as she gains speed and rotates dropping its nose.....well said
Nice review. It’s days that I look at the 550 because a Ferrari v12 with a manual gated transmission will be next level in the electric world
One of the best Ferraris of all time
Hopefully the new Patreon helps put Zach in a 550, permanently...
Still my all-time favorite Ferrari! Had a silver 1:18 scale die cast model in my bedroom as a kid. There was a red one at my local Cars & Coffee this past weekend and I stared at it for a very long time. lol Bellissimo!!
Agreed, this is one of Ferrari's prettiest cars. 9yrs ago you could get them for under 90k, still too rich for my blood but far more attainable than they are now.
I'm with you, Zach. My favorite Ferraris. Great video!
A manual 550 is the dream for me 😍
Great review. I adore the 550/575!
Really excitet for this!
As a kid I had a red 575 Maranello as a Hot Wheels and it was my favourite one. 💕
The 575 Super America it's one of my favorites Ferraris of all time
Zack is a riot! I love it!
a gated 550M and f430 is all I've ever wanted in life
I actually was six yrs old when this was new, only seen one since. Bad Boys 😂
It was worth the vid. Thanks
Thank you!
Living the dream Zack! Great review!
Bad Boyz 2 made this car legendary
"Department insurance doesn't cover privately owned vehicles, Mike, that's why we drive police cars."
The 355 engine note they dubbed over that scene helped it! Was so good.
I'd motorboat it, too, Zack.
And the roads around Pikes Peak are awesome.
Never understood the obsession with the sound of a car. A little goes a long way.
Not that you need to hear it from me, but I’d say a purely indulgent video was EASILY well-deserved but this is not that. No “all over the map.” You’re pretty good at this, you know.
I will say: CHERISH the body roll bro…
Garage saurus turned a 550 into a time attack machine, it sounds amazing
Truly such few cars I’d pick over a front engine v12 Ferrari.
Beautiful car. I’ve been lusting for a 599 that one day I’ll purchase.
I love the 575. Great review!!
I have a soft spot for a grant touring Ferrari. I will own one soon. Thanks for the push.
What a lovely car.
Awesome video.
14:47 it's funny he says that cuz the back of the car always reminds me of Italian boats.
drives a Ferrari becomes Italian with the hand gestures haha love it
I agree these cars are beautiful I have driven a manual version of this 575...brilliant.. the last true hand drawn Ferrari before they had to put crumple zones
This is now my favourite Zach film
This car does need an exhaust. We have a 550 with full tubi exhaust and it sounds amazing.
Haven't seen too many 550/575's , but when I do, just for a moment, it replaces my (beloved) 360 as my favourite Ferrari. Depending upon how they appreciate, and how quickly I get back to the UK - it's between those two as to which would be my first 'Prancing Horse'.
(yeah owning a Ferrari here in new Zealand is not a good idea - only three authorised dealers in the whole country and I'm nowhere near any of them, so....).
