I bought a 22" Legacy Heavy ride through you guys from the Sabian booth at PASIC last year, I'd been looking to find one in person for years so that I could hear it in person before picking it up so that I knew it was the right sound. I can happily say 1 year later that it was the perfect sound I'd been missing from a ride cymbal all my life. Absolutely fantastic cymbal with great stick definition, a cutting bell that isn't too overpowering, and a nice little bit of wash which is always nice for the styles of music I play. Works for every style too, from light combo jazz to heavy progressive metal. Thank you all at Sweetwater and hope to see you again at PASIC this year!!
If I had to choose one Ride to play for the rest of my life, I think I could confidently say it would be the Legacy ride. Just phenomenal dynamics all around, from its bell to its crash.
NIck's playing is awesome as always, and I bought these cymbals because of this video. One of the best cymbal packs out there IMO! Amazing sounding cymbals.
I'm super happy with the hhx legacy pack. Got mine from Sweetwater! Tons of tone. The bell of the ride is sooo nice and the ride just rings for days. The hats are fantastic and the crash pairs perfectly with both the ride and hats.
I have the 15" hats, and after a couple of moths of playing them I really appreciate their smooth balanced sound. The hats really shine when played open. Great stick definition and fast distinct splash. Their great balance makes them a very versatile choice.
I love the Legacy series. They record beautifully and the crashes sound amazing in literally every genre, even metal. The sounds are so well rounded and the 20” is like an amazing trashy crash. Almost wish they made a china in the group. I use the 20” Ozone ride as a accent crash. Superb series. Highly recommend. The hi hats are lighter, slightly thinner. So they are genre dependent. But the rides and crashes are amazingly balanced.
If they made a Legacy Chinese I'd buy it in a heartbeat tbh. Also I agree with everything you said, plan on getting some Legacy Crashes and the heavy Ride for playing metal mainly, just because the ride is pronounced enough under the Mic, but it can inspire you to play other stuff too, which I don't feel with all those pingy rides more commonly used in metal.
Cheesus Crust Yea I have a 22” HH Rock Ride which is perfect for everything. Also use a 22” Medium Artisan that is more mellow and dark, not great for metal since the bell lacks cut, but its warm and washy. The ping from the rock ride is pleasant, I normally hate brilliant bright cymbals, but its the only brilliant one in my set up. The bell though is amazing, ride is good for everything but Jazz. But the legacy heavy ride will cut when mic’ed, its bell isnt as aggressive though.
I’m a meinl guy but if I had to play another company it would be Sabian cause of the hhx legacy line. Reminds me a lot of meinl’s thinner traditional line and Jazz line. Super buttery feeling and dark and trashy.
It's wild how far we've come on the thin cymbals trend that they called the 22" Legacy Ride "heavy". I had a 22" Zildjian "Thin Crash" from the 80s that was heavier than the "Heavy Ride".
Will Jackson They were lol. Legacies came out first. Evolutions were second. They had packs or just buy them separately lol. People need to do way more research before dropping $$$
I'm not usually one for cymbal packs but Sabian KNOCKED it out of the park with these. To my ears they sound beautiful. What's the street price for the pack?
Do a demo on the different flavors of dream cymbals on the market I hear they are nice and cozy much less. UFIP cymbals sounds good also but are rare in west coast music stores
By the way try the Vater sticks against Vic Firths nylons tips. The Vater sticks deliver a cleaner ping than Vics do. Also Vics cause a lot of wash faster. Don't take my word grab a set of 5A or B's and hear the difference.
Hey, CarlHamilton1914. Thanks for the interest. It’s actually not a heavy ride cymbal. Sabian removed the “heavy” from this cymbal. It’s actually medium weight. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
But, the HHX complex thin or medium thin (21" is my favorite dimension in that series) is CRAZY good for crashing! Unbelievably dark, glassy, open up right away, and cut through anything. Highly recommend combining HHX complexes with the Legacies! That's what I play. 21" as my left ride, and 22" Legacy as my right ride.
Simon Oliver hhx evolution hats with this ride and crash fixes that but it’s also what ever is nice to your own ears lol since everyone is different. So many things to choose from
Hey, addthisto. These are fairly dark cymbals. I personally wouldn't use them for hard rock or metal. Check out the AAX heavy cymbals. Thanks for your interest. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
@Old Man hendo Because they are darker and may not cut through the sound to well. My buddy who plays in a hard rock band used them miked live in a medium sized club and you could barely here them trough the mix. They would be great in the studio though. You would probably be better off with a medium or heavy cymbal from the AAX or AA product line.
That's why a lot of metal/hard rock guys use Sabian AA/AAX, Zildjian A/A custom, Paiste 2002/Rude. Especially live because they need the high pitch to cut through the guitars.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Especially for a pair of hats , ride / crash and a crash. That's it.. I understand their oversized but still too much.
I have never known someone who illustrates drum gears better than Nick .....thts why I love Sweetwater
Sweetwater is lucky to have him!

I used to feel like that until I tried the 22” complex thin ride and now there’s no going back.
@@Carlosconga I could never settle on one Ride cymbal. They all have such unique qualities the more in my arsenal the better.
@@Assimilator702 he said if he had to.
@@larrytate1657 I know. I just added that I could never settle on one ride. However the Sabian HH 22" Rock Ride comes close for me.
@@Carlosconga those rides sound nice but the heavy ride is just different lol
I’m here for the tambourine solo
NIck's playing is awesome as always, and I bought these cymbals because of this video. One of the best cymbal packs out there IMO! Amazing sounding cymbals.
Nick is forever the best
Lebay ahh lu

Incredible technique, and beautiful demo of a great pack. Everything a demonstration video should be. Thanks, Nick!
I own a lot of cymbals, but these are the ones I always miss when I haven’t played them in a while. Under mics, they sound unbelievably rich.
The legacy ozone ride was my addition to this pack, I love theses cymbals. They go well mixing with the evolution crashes
And with the complex crashes
That smile on his face from the tambourine break! 😆
I have the 15" hats, and after a couple of moths of playing them I really appreciate their smooth balanced sound. The hats really shine when played open. Great stick definition and fast distinct splash. Their great balance makes them a very versatile choice.
Nick is a monster player! Great review. Love the format.
Stunning set of Cymbals. Great selection, great price! Sabian for Life
I want that crash so much. I love how this sounds. I played it and I love but never owned it. Just wish to have this. Love sabian so much.

We’d love to use that kit with our plugins! 😱
Joey Sturgis: "We'd love to use that kit with our plugins!"

These Legacy cymbals sound amazing!!!
Great cymbals and great playing as always Nick!

Nice, it’s splashing the hat Nick. Feather the kick.
Perfect Cymbals! Sabian is the Best!
Such a beautiful demonstration! :)
This whole cymbal set is killer!
Incredible drummer
Perfect demo, very artistic and fun!
I don't know why and really can't just put the finger on WHY they are the best cymbals I've ever heard period.
@0:26 i swear he's playing a funky version of "batman" in his head lol
Thanks that’s a great review! Great playing I’ve watched a lot of drummers on RUclips lately but the playing here stands out, educational too,
These cymbals are incredible. I wish this pack would’ve been available when I bought my HHX evolutions.
Will Jackson They were lol. Legacies came out first. Evolutions were second. They had packs or just buy them separately lol. People need to do way more research before dropping $$$
Wrong. Evolutions came first. www.daveweckl.com/sabian.htm
FanaticalDrummer i did lots of research haha but no one was selling a discounted pack of the HHX Legacy Cymbals in these sizes unfortunately.
Funny cause evolutions came out in 2002 and legacy in 2006. But legacy pack only seen 20,18,16 and 14” hats before never this size
I know this comment is 4 yra old but I am torn between evolution and legacy 17”. Would you still go legacy and why? Thanks Will!
I'm not usually one for cymbal packs but Sabian KNOCKED it out of the park with these. To my ears they sound beautiful. What's the street price for the pack?
Those drums are t a s t y. Sounds great all around. Hats are really hitting the mark, IMO. Really nice. Nick is always on point.
Thanks man! Great video as always! ❤️
Best gear review video ever!
That round stick almost sounds plastic very cool
Do a demo on the different flavors of dream cymbals on the market I hear they are nice and cozy much less. UFIP cymbals sounds good also but are rare in west coast music stores
Omg I’m in love with that kit
Stay with that person that looks at you the way nick looks at the cymbals
Sabian = ❤
Nice cymbals and kit.
All Sabian HHX cymbals are awesome if played right
Dude I’m a Zildjian guy but Nick is a beast
Have you tried the Zildjian k sweet line..they are thin like the legacy and sound amasing!
I love when people say "warm" about cymbals!
By the way try the Vater sticks against Vic Firths nylons tips. The Vater sticks deliver a cleaner ping than Vics do. Also Vics cause a lot of wash faster. Don't take my word grab a set of 5A or B's and hear the difference.
Nick, sound pretty sweet!
good demo rick, seems a shame yr not in a good band mate,,,love the gear,we live in England, skint mate, love to bye a loads of yr stuff man,,,
I wish they had 12 inch hats, I bet you they would sound sweet AF
The had a 12” splash you could go 12” hhx evolution on bottoms and legacy on top lol some thin hihats lol
Nick, el mejor! ✅
Three facts I learned from this video
The tuning is great
I’m not a huge fan of “dark cymbals” unless it’s this line or Meinl Byzance
Nick rocks
So is that a Legacy ride heavy or regular weight? The description doesn’t say heavy but he mentioned it was heavy during the video

Jingle bells @4:05
I can't unhear it now! 🤣 lol
He could make a "Dustbin lid" sound good...😂😂
Can you review the hhx evolution??
If you're the kind of player that sometimes like to play the ride like a crash, does this ride handle that well?
The 22"? Yes!
Took me awhile to realized there isn't any music.
Great cymbals I love them...
Well these sound perfect!
Nick is a boss
yes
you picked the right sizes
crash and ride are lush but find the closed hats a little dead sounding. The hiss is nice though.
Simon Oliver hhx evolution hats with this ride and crash fixes that but it’s also what ever is nice to your own ears lol since everyone is different. So many things to choose from
❤
can they handle rock/metal?

If you want the same feel as these cymbals but for rock, I would go for the paiste 2002s
@@leonaharfouche too bright

baby Jesus But it looks better than a paragon, lol.
These came first ;)
Take my money please, lol! They sound great!
The voice is loud but I can hardly hear the cymbals. I buy a lot of drum equipment at his store. 🎉
😍😍
Sabian HHX Legacy or Sabian HHX Complex?? I really need to know because $930 is a lot of money to drop on cymbals
Legacy. If you can afford them. The rides are awesome for crashing lightly
Legacy. But if you really into big crashed... Grab a 20 or 22in complex thin crash... They sound incredible.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Especially for a pair of hats , ride / crash and a crash. That's it.. I understand their oversized but still too much.
The heck with the cymbals, show me that fill @1:12 and the other ones @ @1:03 to 1:07 ;-)
I think I just found my new cymbals!!!!!!!😆
Have you heard he hhx complex line yet. That’s what I’m getting next.
The only one I like is the 19
Hi ya doin everybody
Does this dude do online drum lessons?
Vicky Springs
Omfg Extra!... These cymbals a very sexy indeed. I need to sell my beautiful cows to fund this perchase😎
The other big company that makes K models may wanna sue Dave Weckl once they hear/see this ha!
Are we just gonna pretend that fill at 1:13 wasn't absolutely disgusting?
🤘🏾🤘🏾😁
Mmmm
