Stewart was a good fighter👍🏿 Holyfield is a LEGEND!!! Just watching the high skill level of these men is an honor. I use to watch Holyfield train, when I was kid boxing. At the Heights Gym in Houston Texas. I saw him hitting the heavy bag once.... the real heavy bag with sand in it. And ripped the chain out of the beam of the roof. As a child, I'm like WOW!!! My uncle said yeah he's strong😊 I even got to meet another great warrior in "Big Cat" Cleveland Williams at the same gym.... unfortunately he was sick in a wheel chair. But, stood and demonstrated a left hook that was so hard. It was unbelievable at his age, and health. Rest peacefully Brother Cleveland.
Holyfirld Stewart 1 was an even better fight. Still Holyfield Dokes is my personal favorite. That was the night I realized Holyfield was the best HW in the world. A very unpopular opinion at that time, but nonetheless true. That night Mike Tyson was ringside and he knew he would have his hands plenty full if they ever got together. Which they ultimately did... and he "ultimately did." Despite naysayers (as much as I love Mike) Holyfield would have beaten him easier had they fought in their primes. Evander had slowed much more than Tyson when they eventually got a chance to fight. Tysons speed and power were both fully intact and Evander made seemingly easy work of Mike on Nov. 9 1996.
At the time when even average heavyweight boxers could deliver vicious punches and take same but still stands to continue the fight. Evander was a warrior in the ring.

could be. George Foreman said that Ali had a presence like no other he ever fought. I believe that. Ali felt like he was carrying the Muslim, and perhaps African-American, world on his shoulders. He fought as much for them as he did for himself during the latter part of his career. Sometimes Ali did not train properly for a fight. He hardly trained much at all for Jimmy Young, and it showed. He hardly laid a glove on Young the whole fight and yet he was given the decision because Young couldn't hurt him.

He threw piston like punches-absolute destroyer... As a Crusierweight he was/would have continued to be the best ever... I feel he would have overwhelmed Spinks (I know Spinks never fought at CW) bested Bob Foster and though it's tricky to compare old-time fighters would take him against just about every other CW/LH aside from Ezzard Charles (who is my all-time favorite!) and Gene Tunny... An interesting fight would have been Holyfield and Michael Moorer at CW (I think Evander beats him but Moorer (again, just my opinion) was an absolute terror at LH before he moved up...) As good as Holyfield was as a HW he wasn't the same fighter as he was at CW... His speed/power/chin skillset that made him legendary at CW translated well to HW but think he was closer to an 8 out of 10 than the 10 of 10 I would rate him at CW. As for this fight..I watched Stewart grow up on MSG and he showed himself well on the big stage save for maybe against Tyson (and there is no shame in not showing well against Iron Mike!)
You make interesting observations. I am almost convinced that he was unstoppable at CW but during his era the HW division was the most exciting and he needed a piece of the pie. Did exceptionally well at HW. I hated his guts because he didn't know when to stop. Took losses he shouldn't have had because he should have retired after Tyson.

I knew he'd beat Tyson after watching the Dokes match. That match was beyond brutal. Douglas got to Tyson before Evander.

I remember a series of tough fights that were all pretty awesome. And they involved, in one form or another: Evander Holyfield Alex Stewart Michael Moorer Bert Cooper ...and, heck, I'll even toss in George Foreman, since all these guys had entertaining fights with eachother, win or lose, for various reasons. The least of these being Foreman vs Cooper, which Cooper looked like crap. He offered little to no resistance in 3 ugly rounds. And when Stewart fought Foreman it came to a draw, if I remember correctly. Or maybe a bloody and swollen Foreman barely won a split decision? But even That was a good fight. The best? That's a tough call. But I will say that for entertainment ( ala Foreman-Lyle-like thrills), I remember that Stewart vs Moorer was a doozy! So was Cooper vs Moorer! All of these guys intertwined somehow in those glory days of boxing. These guys did a lot of pounding on eachother. Cooper was the first guy to knock Holyfield down, if I recall. He also knocked down Moorer. But he couldn't even bruise Foreman for some reason. Of All of these fighters I mentioned just now, I think that Foreman and Holyfield were truly legendary champs and would be in Any era..

If you watch closely Evander kind of blocked the shots with a cross guard but he also took a lot of damage which isn’t really smart

i tell you what............Stewart was one tough sob............. whenever you fought him, you knew you were in a fight
I remember a series of tough fights that were all pretty awesome. And they involved, in one form or another:
Evander Holyfield
Alex Stewart
Michael Moorer
Bert Cooper
...and, heck, I'll even toss in George Foreman, since all these guys had entertaining fights with eachother, win or lose, for various reasons.
The least of these being Foreman vs Cooper, which Cooper looked like crap. He offered little to no resistance in 3 ugly rounds.
And when Stewart fought Foreman it came to a draw, if I remember correctly. Or maybe a bloody and swollen Foreman barely won a split decision? But even That was a good fight.
The best? That's a tough call. But I will say that for entertainment ( ala Foreman-Lyle-like thrills),
I remember that Stewart vs Moorer was a doozy!
So was Cooper vs Moorer!
All of these guys intertwined somehow in those glory days of boxing. These guys did a lot of pounding on eachother.
Cooper was the first guy to knock Holyfield down, if I recall. He also knocked down Moorer.
But he couldn't even bruise Foreman for some reason.
Of All of these fighters I mentioned just now, I think that Foreman and Holyfield were truly legendary champs and would be in Any era..
Thank God black people were brought from Africa to entertain the world otherwise who will give us this kind of good fight..Proud to be black, yet they don't appreciate us and turn us against ourselves and against our people from motherland Africa.
I love & respect Holyfied... But I agree 👍 you can tell he was on the 💉💪 juice.. Although he had the ❤heart of a lion 🦁& awesome👏✊👍 🥊🥊 boxing skills..

He definitely was. Most high level fighters back then were. Just a fact some are unwilling to accept.
@@cody0126a in the past their was other fighters that had health problems some retire from their problems. Unless it was stated he failed i don't go by assumption
