  • Can you believe that Willa is already 2 years old and able to go to German Kita (daycare)?! We can't! This video gives you a bit of an insight of how we are feeling and how the process has been to get Willa onto the waiting list for the Kita, and how we were surprised to find out she was able to get a spot 9 months earlier than we were planning. Here's to a BIG change in our lives going smoothly and hoping that Willa will be just as excited at Kita as she seems to be.
    One thing that we highlight is how affordable the Kita is here in Germany compared to what we have heard from our friends back in the US. We love the affordability aspect to give Willa a learning experience and a chance to make friends, while also giving Risa a few hours of "me-time" in the mornings.

    How exciting for Wila! I really don't recall my first day in KiTa but my mom always tells the story of how "Eingewöhnung" wasn't necessary at all with me but that I immediately immersed myself into the room and played along with other children, the nursery teacher were like "seems like you can go now" after like 10 minutes which kind of broke her heart and were a big relieve at the same time :D Hope Wila has a great experience! I personally worked in a Kindergarten for some time (in a Spanish speaking country though) and there was a little boy who did not speak the language (he was from the US as well) which made him be a bit anxious and timid because he did not feel like being able to connect with the children in his class, maybe there is a teacher who speaks English such that Wila has someone to turn to, to communicate her needs in English if necessary, I know that was of extreme comfort for this little boy who after a few weeks became more and more confident and really began to blossom!

    We where living in Spain when our daughter was Willas age. Sadly they didn´t have a transition time then (more than 20 years ago) Starting with a few hours per day/five days per week; she did well and she learned Spanish in no time at all. And she loved the ladies working there. Willa will have a great time!

    I was really getting excited for you guys while watching the video and then you leave us with the cliffhanger ending... 😉 There's going to be tough days but I'm absolutely certain that you're making the right decision by getting her into a KITA. You'll be amazed at how quickly she picks up German. I've witnessed it a few times with immigrant children at my kids' KITA. They went from zero German to fluent during their time there. Also, you'll surely experience a couple new German traditions like a Martinsumzug while she's visiting the KITA. Can't wait for part two.

      @@OurStorytoTell In the end it is all about trust and faith. The adaption time shows the parents that they can trust the Kita. So the parents feel giving their child to a trustworthy facility. You could give the Turkish yoghurt offerings available here in Germany a try. There's also Ayran which is a light Turkish yoghurt drink you might like. There's lots of Greek yoghurts on sale in Germany, which I think you already might be familiar with from the US. You could check out Bulgaria yoghurt which is more solid. It's a big step for the little one. Until now she is close with mom and dad, but in KITA she will get to know a new world and other children. Surely they will soon like to go there to play with the others, sing and learn simple tasks. Counting on your fingers, knowing the days of the week or walking safely on the pedestrians way and safely crossing a street with a group of children are also goals. But also light a candle and watching out that nothing happens.
    And later she will be prepared for school.
    And the good thing is mom gets more time to learn languages.

    It was so hard to get our 5-year-old into a Kindergarten here in Leipzig - it took us about 5 months to get her started - and then the day she was supposed to start they closed due to Covid cases! We're still waiting, but hopefully next week she can start. I'm not a fan of Eingewöhnung in our particular case - our daughter spent 3 years in preschools in the States and is ready to go! (She's also the youngest of 4, so as parents we're completely ready.)

    The good thing about her going to Kita that early is that she will learn German now effortlessly. That is the reason why they offer it that early. You are not the only family from a non-German speaking background. So if kids learn German early on despite their parents being non-native speakers, it makes it easier for them to be successful at school.

    The 1.5 litres Landliebe frische Landmilch in a tetra pak is actually organic, but they are not willing to pay for the stamp that declares that.

      Uhm - not quite. They feed without GM crop, but they are very likely to buy food from elsewhere - and nowhere do they say that that food is organic. They pay fair prices to farmers (that is what they claim) - and cows are treated with more space for cows - but organic is stricter than that.

    From the looks of the windows blinds I guess you are in Bavaria right now. In some states Kita and Kindergarden are free for all. If not (e.g. Bavaria, Lower Saxony) the fee depends on your household income. But as the tax tarifs haven’t been adjusted for ages, nowadays everybody with a decent job pays full (approx. 300-400€/Month) and from year 3 onwards it is free almost everywhere.

    Hi, I am following your videos from long time, can you answer me about daycare? Did you wait for Kid for 3 years to send her to school? My family from in-laws side push me to send my son to daycare a lot. I made them to wait till 2 years. But now I need to send at 2. He is still breastfeeding. I am living in Germany and me and my husband does work from home. We are managing kid well as of now. But I am worried to send him to daycare from September when he will be 2 year old. I am checking for Krippe for my 18 months old son, to join him when he will be 2 year old in September. We are able to take care of him at home. But what do you suggest to join him now or wait for an other year? I wish my comment gets unnoticed. Thanks. Wish you continue during the content. Parenting is joy but a great mutual responsibility

    • @OurStorytoTell
      @OurStorytoTell  3 месяца назад

      Hello, thanks for asking. It was difficult to send our first daughter to Krippe at 2 years old. But, we think it was a good transition for her to get to know the other kids when she moved to the older class at 3. Either way, it really depends on how your child feels about being away from home. There is nothing wrong with holding out if you feel like they need (or you need) more time with them at home. Trust your instinct on what you think is best, but ultimately they will do great either way.

      You do have a good point, but we aren’t sure when we will be leaving Germany so we want her to have as many opportunities to experience different cultures and languages as she can. Obviously if we were leaving next year it might not make sense, but we would still probably want to take advantage of the bonding experience as long as we could.

    I like your videos. You are such a sweet family. But one thing is concerning me. You guys have to watch what your baby is eating. With sweet stuff and pork meat and so. Is she eating fruits and vegetables? Gluten and milky stuff is not so good to eat. And try to have an eye on clean hands. Babys tend to put everything in their mouth. Bacteria and viruses are not that great to have in your system. Just a hint. I love your videos though. They are great. :)
