Thanks for posting the video. My MPAS 2.0 finally shipped from DXE after being back ordered and I ordered the parts needed for the TDL last night from Chameleon. Can't wait to try it all out! 73s from Tallahassee
I get great performance from the MPAS 2.0 with cap hat, started with 1 radial and was impressed with the amount of DX I was getting and I noticed that by adding more radials for a total of 4 my swr on 40 went from 1.8 to around 2.4 and I read that this means ground losses are being reduced which is what you want, low SWR doesn't mean good performance, look at doublets, they perform well and have high swr which is why most people use latter line instead of coax. I noticed an improvement on 40m too and made a 4000 mile contact with it, haven't tried 40m DX much but intend to soon but was still impressed to be able to have a QSO with someone 4000 miles away with such an antenna. I get regular DX mostly 20m in the evenings from Spring to Autumn, evenings are the only time I can get on the radio, have got from Ireland to North/South America, Argentina to Australia. I will add more radials this year but if SWR rises a lot I might have to think about matching it with something other than the supplied UNUN, removing the UNUN and using a Remote tuner might work better but it would be expensive and at that point I'd be better off getting a dedicated base vertical. I got the MPAS 2.0 for portable use but because it works so well I decided to leave it up on the front lawn and use it with the FT-891 in my sitting room so I can make some QSO's without having to go up to the shack. The MPAS is a quiet antenna and makes a really good SWL antenna too. Interested to know what you think of the MPAS vs the TDL ?
Great job Eric. You always put together great videos.. I just bought another house and have yet to get a new antenna. I'm not sure what to go with but I do like some of the versatility of this antenna you reviewed here. Time will tell as to which antenna I go with, maybe a moonraker 4.... hahaha
I have created and testing a Franken-Loop. No, it isn't a breakfast cereal. It is a delta loop using Wolf River Coils Otophone Plate, Chameleons micro transformer, two CB whips, a short jumper at the bottom, a longer jumper between the whip tips. It worked well on 20M. I am going to try to use a 2:1 Balun instead of the Chameleon transformer next. I am just waiting on some dry weather.
Great video Eric. However, when I go portable I would choose my 80-10 EFHW every time - packs much smaller, no myriad of small parts to get lost, cheaper, quicker to deploy and I get better SWR values. Throw the end into a tree and boom, you're on the air. I'm also willing to bet that a full size EFHW will outperform that delta loop
Did you purchase the chameleon equipment at full price or are you getting freebees? It would be helpful if that information be declared in the beginning of your video and in the description? Thank you for posting the demo. I'm still on the fence on whether to purchase or not. I can see the vertical part of the equipment being of some use but as for the long antenna wire part of the equipment I can not see any advantage over an HWEF or 9:1 random wire set up such as the Packtenna which would be a fraction of the cost. A comparison would be interesting.
The S17 and the HUB are finally back in stock on our website! The SS25 (25’ long whip) will also be introduced in few week on our website! Register to our newsletter to make sure to NOT miss That because we only have 500 units for our first batch as they’ll be gone under ONE week. Next batch will be 65 days away!
I have a CHA TDL incoming to me now. I do have a question though, I know you want to use a 25' counterpoise if you are using it as a vertical, but I saw a video of someone using the CHA TDL ground mounted with about 8 or so radials. So my question is, since you have some time using this, do you see a benefit of making of about 8 25' counterpoise/radials when the TDL is in Delta Loop mode? Nothing in the manual suggests needing radials in that mode.
Nice video, massive thanks to you (and a few others... 😉 ) I recently got an IC-705, AH-705 + MPAS 2.0 ... Got a few WSPR pings near... the South Pole!!!... 🤣 Looks like I've found my next add-ons... 🥳 Stay safe, 73 de Manny-M7EPB
Finally a emergency comms solution for guys who don’t have time to play around with antenna tuners and building all their stuff. I’m sold already. I just want to buy something and be covered for emergency Hf. Does it come with back pack?
I am trying to convince a newer ham to buy one, nice to see u were using swr meter to see where it performs without a tuner. In the video you didn't have the strain relief loop on the tips of the telescoping radiator,if it gets windy that antenna moves around and the alligator clip could disconnect without the strain loop attached to the tip.
Enjoying your videos, thanks! You raise the issue of metal shed roofs. Could you ground those to help with vswr and signal radiation? How about using the roof panels themselves as the radiators (and throwing out several feet of wire as the ground component)? The reason I ask - recently our H.O.A. (No Outdoor Antennas) re-roofed and installed an aluminium Ridge Vent (over 200' long). I tried loading it up and was amazed at it's performance (altho it's in a fixed direction). Just a thought! Cheers, B.
That rig expert AA 650 Zoom is a beast and I'd like to own one of those! Where do I sign up for your newsletter to get on the drawings to win things? I am of course subscribed with notifications enabled and thumbs up Eric! 73 W3GUY
I think you put the antenna together wrong. The loops on the end near the clamp are what you put over the top of antenna. You then attach the clamp below it. Might not make a difference but thought I'd mention it.
Hi, how many (xx)mH does the coil have and how long are the telescopic elements and How long is the wire for the Delta Loop? can these bags also be bought without an antenna? thanks Ingo
I've got a similar problem, 3 buildings in backyard all with metal roofs. Then.... a powerline (telephone poles) down the backyard property lines. Chameleon still in Sparks NV?
Hell yeah. That’s why Chameleon moved to a larger facility. Growth is a good problem to have. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great channel and keep the videos coming. Chameleon is how I can get my antenna out of the attic!
Good job Eric. Your very thorough with your tests.

Just ordered the extra parts to upgrade mine!
Outstanding!!! Yet more proof that Chameleon is at the point of the spear! Keep up the great work, Eric!
Nice job!
Thanks for including the contacts. For me that shows much more than just swr

Tacti-cool.
Jokes aside. That is a sweet peice of kit.
Thanks for the upload.

Eric...
Do you have any more extra SS17 Telescoping antenna whips?
Need Cha hub and 25ft wire with alligator clips?
Thanks

No but they sell this backpack by itself

We as hams will ALWAYS find a way to get our signal out, lol good idea

Eric, appreciate the video. My second whip and parts come in tomorrow. Have you run a comparison between the Delta vs Mil-whip? Keep it up! 73 KO4KHB
Definitely have to ass Chameleon to the shack. Too much electrical noise in my condo so I travel to operate. I really want that F Loop though!
Hi,
how many (xx)mH does the coil have and how long are the telescopic elements and
How long is the wire for the Delta Loop?
can these bags also be bought without an antenna?
thanks Ingo

Chameleon still in Sparks NV?
mm they moved not far from their original building into a bigger building .
I love Chameleon products. If I only had some money...
It is a vertical Delta Loop of about 58 feet ... just the dimension between 20m and 17m ... Plus 17m ...
Nice antenna, and review.
Thought you’d have the tower up by now 😁
I thought you dumped your channel Eric
Are you still using the TDL?
Yes I rotate between the mpas and the tdl
Did you use a counter poise ?
No need. The TDL is a closed circuit.
Nice................
Sounds Awesome but too expensive.....
you forgot 60m hi .
I see a tower in your future. 73, de N4QM
Good eye LOL, Thanks for watching Bub!
if you are HOA then turning a tree into an antenna is you best hope so copy W5JGV treetenna.
Looked pretty flimsy for $350
An advertisement?
...really?
You're off of my feed and 🚫.
So what is that so called hybrid micro, just a 4-1 unun?
9:1 I believe
It’s a 5:1 UNUN.
