DSGs shift faster with the paddles than you can shift a manual. That's why they are on all the sports cars. CVTs (like mine, sigh) would be faster if they could take all the engine's torque in the equivalent of first gear. Nobody would mind the drone of an engine at its power peak if it meant that the car was faster than an equivalent car with any other transmission! Toyota fixed this problem theoretically by adding a first gear to their CVT. Testing has not shown their implementation to be faster in standing starts (the only time that first gear is used), at least not yet. I think they will develop it and it will show up on their sports cars instead of a DSG.
Dual Pulley, IE Intake (Whine for days!), ECM/TCU tune (IE or EPL),E40 tune (stock fuel system can handle up to E35-E40), Heat Exchanger upgrade( Please do this, heat kills the stock internal supercharger cores and IAT on a dual pulley will also contribute to failure), transmission inserts (go for the polyurethane insert to keep NVH levels down) is what you need (as a past S4 b8.5 owner i would recommend). With all of those mods, you should be close to 400whp and running under 12sec 1/4 mile with plenty smiles per gallon!
Just save time and money and go with the JHM 207 Crank pulley, I’ve been running that on my B8.5 and has not given me an issue. Gives the same 3.27:1 supercharger ratio as it would if you went dual pulley
Remove the Heat Exchanger and run a Interchiller or Killer Chiller. Put the A/C system to work other than making your ass cool. Also hit with nitrous oxide it will make well over 400 hp. You don't need trans inserts either, he needs a DSG tune to smooth out the pedal input.
With 90k miles on the clock and stage 2/3 Tune upgrade coming up, I recommend the following: - Rear diff oil change - Supercharger oil change and because you have to pull the supercharger out for the oil change do the Intake decarbon and Water pump and kill 3 ducks in one go. - Front and rear tower brace+ rear sway bar (much better budget than a full suspension upgrade) - Transmission tune for extra 1000rpm before upshifts - bigger Heat exchanger - Air intake If you really wanna gogo do the bigger injectors and HP fuel pump for a E85 tune rocket.

Integrated engineering upgrade kit about $1,500 for upper & lower pulleys, new serpentine belt, plus a tune. You will also need a new heat exchanger for the super charger fluid that's around $500.00. So for about 2K plus some wrench time you can comfortably achieve 450 Plus on 93 octane fuel ⛽. That's 100hp over stock. You can do a new intake for about $350 to $500 or just run a high flow air filter for about $50. Tons of Audi 3.0 motors with ddg trans running around the world with these mods with little to no issues. Once you start playing with higher octane fuel and tunes that when you start break stuff more often.

Sam what are you laying on the floor with little clearance to do anything when you could use those pneumatic jacks that raises the vehicle on both sides and then you can work smarter not harder?
Shopped at FCP Euro for years and they are awesome lovely people. I don't often support people's sponsors, just my way of thinking that if they're paid to say it it's not legit but 10/10 FCP are awesome. Especially for someone out of the USA - they spent hundreds shipping me new parts after an order got mixed up AND were kind enough not to demand the old parts back. It would have cost me hundreds to ship them over to return. Really great people.
very nice video, a lot of explaination along the way, but you are obviously a very seasoned professional , as you know exactly the piece to change when you open the transmission ! good Job, thanks for the video
Hey Sam, LOVE your channel, have watched for a long time, not overproduced, no annoying music and you are a genuine guy with great information. QUESTION: Why don’t you get hydraulic jacks to lift up the car when you work on it, laying down trying to work upside down is so hard and it would look so much better on camera if the car was raised up. Just a suggestion. Mark from Australia
I work on my cars with those drive on rams all the time. I still put at least a jack stand as well. I would never just trust those to keep the vehicle up.
Earlier today i did my own dsg service on my b8.5 s4 and i also saw a bit of metallic flakes not too much and small piece, car now shifts smooth and fast.
I like that he haven't installed a lift nor went and built a massive shop. It keeps the repairs more approachable to the average Joe and makes it more entertaining to watch.
This is what makes this channel great. Do NOT get a lift. Do not move from chickenville to an industrial park. Do it in the back yard like so many of us.
Did the same job on my A5, you know it's just the boards when the error code contains a "e" for electronic failure. If I remember correctly the message on ODIS will also indicate the solenoid that's having connection issues. The boards somehow break internally and by measuring the resistance between the pins on the connector and the pins on the pcb you can find the exact trace/wire that is faulty. Also when doing this job and you have metal tubes on the inside connecting from the gearbox to the megatronics unit, it's recommended to replace them with the new plastic tubes. Ps. Did my job on jack stands and was not too bad. Well done on the job 👏👍
Glasspack... and smooth, never used in the same sentence. Maybe glasspack and irritating, or glasspack and annoying, glasspack and... you get my message.
These cars sound horrible with most exhaust setups unless you spend big money, coming from someone who owns one. Big ole doubt with a glasspack sounding good
Isn't this a surfers key? The idea is to lock your your primary key in the car with this one. It's a plastic key with no electronics in it that just unlocks/locks doors manually.
@@Samcrac sounds like you got some good mods planned and with extra power you might want to think about upgrading the high pressure fuel pump while your there 👍
Kudos! Really enjoyed these two videos. And the i8 videos. I REALLY like that you repaired the old i8 engine, and you weren't shy about recounting your cam timing mishap. Suggestion: make a playlist for each project. I ended up seeing then i8 videos way out of order. This usually happens because of how this system works.
That setup is very similar to a Mercedes Benz 722.6 5 speed auto trans with the infamous conductor plate above the valve body that more often than not fails and does weird shit with trans shifting and sets codes. Cost through FCP Euro was $150 for the conductor plate, trans filter, connector assembly, pan gasket and all the o-rings to reseal everything. Mopar wanted almost $700 for just the conductor plate. Very simple to install the AMG blue top shift solenoids and really firm up shifts. Good find!
While it is out, you should jumper a battery across those solenoid actuators and make sure each of them moves. Note the positive/negative polarity in case they have internal diodes to reduce inductive kickback.
My A5 with a bad S-tronic was fixed with changing the circuit boards. Sold it two years later with an absurd engine oil consumption, but still with a perfectly functioning transmission.
Glad it worked, you seem to have good luck regarding these sort of problems, although you do fully research problems and know all the good contacts to get your parts from,Best wishes to you all, from, Auckland, New Zealand.
i think there's 6 large (outer clutch) and 7 small (inner clutch) friction discs with semi-metallic friction pads on the dsg clutches, so it's no surprising to get those little gold flakes in the oil, that fix reminds me of doing the conductor plate on the mercedes 722.6 auto box.
4:53. "...there were a few metal shavings in there which I found out seems to be kinda normal on these DSG transmissions..." If that's true, that should be enough to convince anybody with half a brain to NEVER buy any car with this transmission unless someone can explain how constantly producing metal shavings can be a good thing for any transmission.

"Kia Sonata..." So we are just making up cars now Sam.
I mean, Hyundai and Kia are the same company, just different brands.
same shit really
Can't say enough good things about FCP! I didn't check the engine code for a Volvo I had and I ordered the wrong timing kit... They refunded my money even thought it was open.
Samcrac invests all his RUclips money into his chicken farm, someone sponsor this man a lift.
You're an idiot. How many viewers or Audi owners have a lift? Why not suggest he just drop it at the dealer?
Glad to see the gamble paid off Sam! And don't worry, you're aren't the only one doing transmission work on ramps. Replaced the solenoids on my old 94 corolla's transmission sitting on ramps in the driveway. It's tight, but it works! For the haters, bugger off.
Congratulations Samcrac, I’m glad this repair worked and I’m sure you will enjoy driving the Audi! By the way I wanted to compliment you on the Detroit Red Wings Shirt you were wearing in the video! I appreciate you allowing us access to your world 🌎 Sir. Stay Blessed 🙏🏾
Even a blind squirrel gets a nut sometimes....way to go Sam
Sam, you need a lift sponsorship.... just saying.
Totally agree. See BendPak elsewhere...
Everyday hobbyists buy $1000 quick jacks... He just needs to buy one, unless he's purposefully trying to look like a shadetree mechanic since his theme is "cheap".
only if they sell lifts at auto auctions
@@stevenbenitez1851 😂😂😂
And a glove sponsor. Oil is carcinogenic
Bolt and glue some old fenceposts together to make a platform, make a small wooden ramp up to them and pop your Rhino ramps on top to give you an extra 4 or 5” of working room under the car. Neville.
You need to practice more safety procedures, like chocking the rear tires (both sides) so it doesn't roll back or forward and crush your head, a very basic rule! invest in a car lift.
Love my B8.5 S4. I’ve been APR Dual Pulley for close to three years and have had zero issues daily driving the thing.
Love that Audi S4 I’m glad you were able to fix it!!!!
Finally finally finally...... The content that got me subscribed to this channel. No stepmoms, no walking around..... Actually purchasing and fixing an auction bargain! I'm back!
7:01 I can't believe you didn't even put it on jack stands....
Agreed that is totally dumb
all the jacks are used on the Ferrari, no spare jacks :D
He drove it up on ramps, and they’re stable. The car isn’t going anywhere. Sam’s smarter than he looks…😎
@@terry-zi7eh it isn't about safety, it's about ease. It wasn't high enough for them to even work properly under there. That's fine for a quick oil change but damn....
I had a 1999 Audi A8 for two years plus. Never had a problem with it, but all the mechanics who I knew said they were glad I got rid of it.
“Kia Sonata”....yeah 🤨
Congrats. Fix the exhaust, fix the Windshield and DON'T mod it. Detail it to perfection and enjoy it for a bit....then on to the next one. You Rock.
Sam, my man! You gotta get a big garage and a lift!
S4 b8 is a beast a really reliable car too had one for over 4 years zero issues
Damn Sam back to back i love this new you
yessss
Now he's not banging his stepmom he has lots of time 🤣

12:08 there must be a circuit board tester. or ohmmeter quick resistance ref data to cross check.
Sage resting his elbow on the Jack was making me nervous!
very nice video, a lot of explaination along the way, but you are obviously a very seasoned professional , as you know exactly the piece to change when you open the transmission ! good Job, thanks for the video
I‘m working at vw/ audi here in Germany and the dsg oil stinks so badly😂

Hey Sam, LOVE your channel, have watched for a long time, not overproduced, no annoying music and you are a genuine guy with great information. QUESTION: Why don’t you get hydraulic jacks to lift up the car when you work on it, laying down trying to work upside down is so hard and it would look so much better on camera if the car was raised up. Just a suggestion. Mark from Australia
Kia sonata? Hope this fixes it.
Glad it worked, awesome find!
I work on my cars with those drive on rams all the time. I still put at least a jack stand as well. I would never just trust those to keep the vehicle up.
You really should put wheel chocks at the wheels in case it rolls back and squashes you underneath the car.
Hey that's me and my car at the 2:38 mark thanks for the shout out samcrac 👍
Congrats on getting lucky with this car, looks like you dodged a bullet. It’s not always just circuit boards
Earlier today i did my own dsg service on my b8.5 s4 and i also saw a bit of metallic flakes not too much and small piece, car now shifts smooth and fast.
wow this was a great find. definitely preferable to a "kia sonata" :D
I can make a turbo Sonata whoop this car's ass it's not hard.
There is a channel called “Customer states what!?” The guy is an Audi tech and may be able to help you.
I like that he haven't installed a lift nor went and built a massive shop. It keeps the repairs more approachable to the average Joe and makes it more entertaining to watch.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is what makes this channel great. Do NOT get a lift. Do not move from chickenville to an industrial park. Do it in the back yard like so many of us.
It looked like you were panning for gold.
Guys in the Audi Club near me use Glasspacks for a Crazy smooth sound. you should really try this.
Glasspack... and smooth, never used in the same sentence. Maybe glasspack and irritating, or glasspack and annoying, glasspack and... you get my message.
These cars sound horrible with most exhaust setups unless you spend big money, coming from someone who owns one. Big ole doubt with a glasspack sounding good
Go stage 2 single upper pulley upgrade, intake kit, heat exchanger, from there you can pick 91, 93, 100 octane for power.
Fluid in my ZF atmatik trans from my BMW X3 looked same,..jears ago and still runs great!
Regards from Germany
So lucky in the UK that there is plenty of non dealer specialist workshops for jobs like this who can do programming, mapping and recondition parts.
It's nice to see adam sandler go after his hobbies
11:17 picked up that same Husky Toolbox in the back from Home Depot.....money well spent 💰💰💰
the remote u found that looked like a key in the previous video might be a valve on/off remote :)
Nah it’s the valet key
@@jackpatterson20could be 🤔
Valet key
Isn't this a surfers key? The idea is to lock your your primary key in the car with this one. It's a plastic key with no electronics in it that just unlocks/locks doors manually.
I bought a 4 post lift at an estate sale, great deal been using it for 4 years now
Great result mate looking forward to the mods 👍
You and me both!
@@Samcrac sounds like you got some good mods planned and with extra power you might want to think about upgrading the high pressure fuel pump while your there 👍
I used to be subscribed back when you posted regular updates and stuck with one or two projects from beginning to end. Alas, those days are long gone.
Teh exhaust started sounding “kinda good” when you realized it was sellable haha just kidding.
What a score!!
I love how regardless of how he does the job Sam till this day gets so much shi for not having a lift 😂
Good find!
Definitely go with 034motorsports and dont miss out on the amazing “stage 2” transmission tune!
B8.5 > B8. The B8 has aged badly.
Omg Sam! Watched the first video today and can't believe it's done! This car is gorgeous if only if only, maybe some day!
Sam needs a grooming endorsement deal!
While it is out, you should jumper a battery across those solenoid actuators and make sure each of them moves. Note the positive/negative polarity in case they have internal diodes to reduce inductive kickback.
Even a quick jack would be an upgrade at this point.
I fixed like 7 of those , some came on flat beds from 8-9hrs away.
But if you see a drive range sensor error run away.
2:45 "Used Kia Sonata" 😂😂
What's funny you elite troll? Sonta N-Line makes 290 hp. I can easily get 300+ out of a first gen Sonata Turbo/Optima SX.
@@dj4monie it’s not about the power. He said Kia Sonata. Kia doesn’t make a sonata. Hyundai does
the biggest bang for your buck on these b8 S4 is the pulley upgrade and tune, it will see just shy of 500bhp
SLAP SLAP, that's the sound of the two previous owners hands on their foreheads
My A5 with a bad S-tronic was fixed with changing the circuit boards. Sold it two years later with an absurd engine oil consumption, but still with a perfectly functioning transmission.
That "lifetime guarantee" only applies to sam. when he sells that car the lifetime guarantee on fcp euro parts is null and void
Glad it worked, you seem to have good luck regarding these sort of problems, although you do fully research problems and know all the good contacts to get your parts from,Best wishes to you all, from, Auckland, New Zealand.
Best car for price to 10k for sure!!!😍
No doubt!
bro all the work you do with just some jacks is inspiring
Wow Sam, step mom make you step up your game! Two days in a row! Cheers buddy! 🍻🇨🇦
Oh yeah!
i think there's 6 large (outer clutch) and 7 small (inner clutch) friction discs with semi-metallic friction pads on the dsg clutches, so it's no surprising to get those little gold flakes in the oil, that fix reminds me of doing the conductor plate on the mercedes 722.6 auto box.
Hey Sam,i got big smile over my face when you floor it after rebuilding, nice job👋👋👋
Exactly, so did I Milos! He finally scored a good one! Sheesh!
So easy,
Even a Caveman can do it.
