I love the use of the makeup in this! In the beginning, when almost of all the shots include Maisie wearing the “clown” makeup, she sounds more frantic like she’s just now making the realization about what she’s singing, as if it just happened to her. The camera work also shows this, by being more angled and disorienting (in a good way) all to give the impression of someone who just got burned and is giving advice to her future self. Then in the middle, we see her and friends actually washing their faces with the stream they have been interacting with throughout the video. Then suddenly, the makeup disappears. We hardly see anymore shots with the clown makeup. I think it’s all to show the different stages in her life from which she’s singing. Maisie with clown makeup has just fallen for the man and learned the hard way so she’s frantically telling everyone what she’s learned. Then we have the fresh faced Maisie, giving the appearance of a woman who’s grown and matured. The dust has settled, but she’s learned her lesson and is metaphorically “clean” from the experience. No longer crazed, but all the wiser, the good witch. TLDR the visuals in this mv are a great way to show growth besides just saying “I’ve grown”. Always been a fan Maisie, manifesting more love for our good witches
I was so obsessed with The History of Man (the best song on the album argue with the wall), I moved on to the second best, which is Coming of Age and then I thought "well damn I think I'm getting tired of the album already". Boy was I wrong cause Run hit me like a truck it's so good like she just can't miss the lyrics, the flow, the beat. Slay. EDIT: I do want to add that days later I'm still addicted to the album and everyday I have a new favorite (currently it's Therapy and Wendy), so Maisie you absolutely outdid yourself what a legend
