  • More and more it seems we hear from family, friends and neighbors about landlords raising their rent, and now a woman is being told her landlord also wants to double the security deposit to let her renew her lease. She turned to Help Me Howard with Patrick Fraser to find out if that’s legal.

These landlords are becoming more wicked and greedy and this is why the economy is failing . Who and the world has an extra deposit for a place you already live , I rather pay that amount to a new unit that is very beautiful and worth it but not if I’m already living there

As a landlord, this is not right. The tenant should be credited her previous deposit and security she paid. The only difference should be because of higher rent, the deposit would be higher, so whatever the difference is between the old rent and new rent, that's what she should have to come up with. But that is really chicken on the landlord part to even do this.

Hi! Can a landlord charge a different amount than what's on the Welcome Letter? She said she made a mistake in what she put on the letter

So tenants if you’re ever in this situation just move out, but don’t make that landlord rich just because they want your money. And attorney help me Howard is always agreeing with the party that is wrong and he is wrong

Landlords are going to realize they need tenants to survive. No tenants no money for the bills and mortgage, this rent increase keep going like this the tides will turn soon. There will be more and more empty apartments and condos.

It's not a mess for renters, it's unregulated bs. It's the same lease and landlord so she shouldn't be subject to anything new.

The rent situation in Florida is insane and forget about owning a house.

Unfortunate what is happening to her but at the same time, this is also a consequence of becoming a single mother without a responsible father around. If he tragically passed away and she is a widow, perfectly understood but in most of these cases, mom had the children and either the irresponsible dad (who she chose) left OR she left him to “find herself” for lack of better words. Either way, let this be a lesson to those women who can still “save themselves” and please, don’t have children until You have a stable and responsible Man to help raise them as a family.

A higher security deposit is needed to cover inflation. The price of a old security deposit of 6 years ago will not cover today's basic costs.

Then the landlord should go get a second job.
