@@TriadAgone Desync plus the way proximity fuses in the simulation measure to a point in space and not from the skin of the aircraft means most proximity fuses don't trigger in multiplayer. They work more consistently in SP.
Omg, I was expecting a random video about tactics that I wanted to learn, and I got HANDS DOWN the COOLEST looking trick I have ever seen done in a Sim. That Matrix music was playing in my head watching it, long before the Matrix reference came up in the video itself :D
I think the missile tracking is a bug but the proxy fuse is not. I think the proxy fuse is a temporary fix if you can call it like that .. ED might have said well we have this thing going on where missiles keep tracking even without radar guidance so until we fix that IF lock is lost missiles will be dead ( no fuse detonation no nothing). Try and see if the proxy fuses work when a radar is guiding them. Another interesting thing will be to see if a "dead" missile can score a kinetic kill on you. If it can't then that validates my theory even more.

so for today's lesson, if you are packing six missiles that doesn't mean you have to kill six tangos with them or you are a bad pilot, missiles can be used to force the enemy into a position that you can kill them, and prevent them uping their chance of shooting your air frame down, as if they are to be used tactically and not as if you lose them in a fight then you are a bad pilot and you are fired from the air force... right?
@@xmeda considering the jet you are firing at costs somewhere between 10-50 times as much as the AMRAAM you kinda can fire a few and be congratulated for job well done IF you dont waste them completely firing one and wasting it for nothing is way worse than firing four and scoring a kill
I mean if them tracking without presenting any danger was the only thing it would be fine. But with the RWR still beeping you kinda have to assume they are hot. That's a really silly bug.
ya i agree its a big deal and hopefully they fix it soon. theres no reason why a fox1 should still be tracking when the launch aircraft is a ball of flames.

I wonder why after all these years (decade?) FOX 1 missiles haven't been fixed. Is it covering up a bigger issue and this is the lesser of two evils? Proximity damage would be something that is much needed against aircraft.

I really don't like Russian-made hardware, but the one thing I really envy the Russkies for is the Su-27 (and all its variants). That plane is one hell of a flying / fighting machine, and it looks AMAZING.
The radar was still providing guidance to those missiles...the radar was still working as the other Flanker is falling but it then lost lock soon and thus they didn't detonate. I think. Very entertaining!

i met the same thing before when i was using AIM7M to attack a F15, i got killed first, and the missile kept tracking the F15 and finally killed him too.

I'm pretty sure that's not a bug. R-27ER's semi-active radar can guide a missile at any radio-contrast target, either it can be a friendly aircraft painting same target or, in your case, your very own radar provide guidance to these hostile missiles. However in close proximity it looks like missile get out of emission cone and proxy loses "sight", or its a proximity fuse bug. Anyway, pretty interesting case, great video.
Question about SARH's. My understanding is that they have on board RADAR that can track if they're close enough and have a valid return. Hence why the 3 at the end tracked. Is that not the case? I've been told before that they will go pit bull at some point but that it's really close to the target when they do. That seems to make sense with the name "Semi-Active", insinuating that they aren't fully active but do have in built tracking capabilities.
With so many more experienced people saying that SARH's don't track with the parent aircraft dead I have to assume I'm misinformed and "Semi-Active" just means they're guided but not by themselves, only with guidance from the parent craft. Good stuff. I really would have thought I'd pick that up after five years of playing DCS and watching DCS videos but I never have.
air to air rockets had in the 80s the so-called proximity lighter that ignites when the rocket reaches a few meters from the target so that this rocket passes a few inches from the target is ridiculous especially when it comes to a modern airplane it is strange how the same rocket and only one hit the opponent and the opponent's exactly 3 missiles did not hit all in all a great video helps me a lot because i am a beginner in SU27 and in missions they just can’t beat the F-16 but I will one day hihihihi

Actually SAHR missile can track. In their terminal phase they actually have a low band emitter used for terminal phase tracking. I was in the navy for 10 years. I worked on the NSSMS defense system we used SAH missiles.

of course that is only when the situation is fair ( same alt speed and only 1 v 1 with same plane). what do you think about launching pairs of missiles with like 10 sec delay ( also i like to keep my energy for the launches before i do any serious maneuver ) ? for me it seems i have way higher kill probability at high ranges if i do that + the enemie usually starts stong evasive maneuvers wich allows me to get into supression poition where usually either the enemie run for his life or baiscly feels the wrath of arsenal of the sukhoi trying to get like a AMRAAM on me ( usually though i am at this point in R27 ET range and we all know how effective these are easpacialy if combined with maybe another ER basicly its GG for any F15/16/18 ) the only enemie i have a bit of trouble with is th F 14 with the phoinx missiles wich i really struggle evading i usually go for a run , preferring either stealth or team tactics to take out F 14 planes.
Great production, you seem to have discovered a simulation failure, in that those semi-actives were tracking after he'd lost lock. I'm interested in producing an automated validation infrastructure that would discover these failures automatically.
It was interesting to see the missiles keep tracking even after the enemy aircraft destroyed? Is it a possibility due to the nature of R-23 missiles IR targeting? The distance between the two aircrafts was less than 7 NM when the 3 missiles were launched. I read that R-23 uses a liquid nitrogen-cooled infrared seeker which required it be locked on to the target before launching, either by the launching aircraft's radar or IRST. It's effective range is 22 miles or 35 KMs. It can be a possibility that it wasn't a radar but IR lock. It's not clear in the video if it was R-23 or R-27 since both have IR capabilities as well as good range for Fox-1 engagements. That's why the missiles never stopped tracking. Again, a guess, not a pilot's experience to comment.
Why evade so early? If you time your missiles correctly you can but him the defense. Use your corner speed to evade the the missile by turning into the missile’s path

Yes, 2 of the R-27 variants are IR guided, the standard R-27T1 and extended range R-27ET1. There are also RF emitter homing R-27P1 & EP1 passive variants. When the UK & US did technical exploitation on new R-27 samples of the East German NVA off the MiG-29, it was realized that missile is a piece of garbage with extremely low pK. R-73 Archer was opposite of a piece of garbage.

correct the first launch is almost always used to force ur enemy defensive and also to gauge his skill level. follow up shots are what will kill him.

That airspeed 800-1000 km/h seems a bit slow for a Su-27 at 40k' altitude on full afternburner no ? The Mig-29 does better at sea-level in DCS.
A functioning proximity fuse would have detonated on all three occasions.
Why evade so early? If you time your missiles correctly you can but him the defense. Use your corner speed to evade the the missile by turning into the missile’s path
Playing lomac and just had a fox 1 take me out after mine hit him. I was lining up for second target and my peripheral saw it hit.

Hey man, just Hollywood doing crap it’s like when they show a plane drop flares against a radar guided missile that is setting off his RWR. Cuz flares look cooler than chaff so like you said just Hollywood
At such high altitudes does the speed at which you launch matter? Or is it just necessary to be supersonic?

Yes, 2 of the R-27 variants are IR guided, the standard R-27T1 and extended range R-27ET1.
There are also RF emitter homing R-27P1 & EP1 passive variants.
When the UK & US did technical exploitation on new R-27 samples of the East German NVA off the MiG-29, it was realized that missile is a piece of garbage with extremely low pK. R-73 Archer was opposite of a piece of garbage.
