I JUST CANNOT WITH YOUR CHIPMUNK SINGING VOICE!
    HYSTERICAL 😂😂😂
I LOVE AND ADORE YOUR REACTION TO THIS ONE 😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞😍💖💞
SERIOUSLY! YOU ARE TOO GOOD AT THIS!
Okay, confession time: I didn't fall in love with this one at first listen. And Seph you forgot to do "I Can't Stop Loving You" from this same show August 11, 1970 Dinner Show.
NO! NO, NO, NO! YOU ARE NOT READY TO MOVE ON TO 1971 YET.
    YOU ARE SKIPPING OVER
Will provide links. BEST BELIEVE I WILL!
THE LIVE 1970 "I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" PERFORMANCE IS MY FAVORITE VERSION OF THAT SONG!
PLEASE 🎶I BEG OF YOU🎶 DO NOT SKIP!
I'M GONNA CRY IF YOU DO 😭😭😭
AND WHAT ABOUT THE X- RATED BLUES VERSION OF "STRANGER IN MY OWN HOMETOWN"? THAT WAS ALSO 1970 (JAM SESSION).
I'M OFFICIALLY (BUT RESPECTFULLY) OBJECTING TO YOUR STATEMENT THAT YOU'RE DONE WITH 1970. YOU ARE NOT MY GOOD SIR.
You can tell I feel a particular way about all this cuz the above is in all CAPS 😂
I am hoping that you read this and do know I say all that I say with the utmost respect but too that I never say what I do not mean and that I always mean what I say.
I really am going to cry if you skip "I Can't Stop Loving You" the live 1970 performance.
    * takes deep breath *
Okay, moving on now. I've said all I can say on the matter.
Moving on: Now you have me suspecting you're a bit of a romantic.
You know when Elvis sings that verse you love so much I always think he's thinking of his then 2 year old daughter.
This is another one of those songs where I got the impression that this is a from- a- father- to- a- daughter song.
I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But because of that this song has now become a very special and very dear song to me.
I just can't help believin' that Elvis at times when he sang a song in his head he was dedicating it to his daughter.
It's a very sweet song no matter who he was really singing it to, if he had anyone specific in mind at all.
Very sweet song. It's very heartfelt and yes Elvis makes you REALLY feel this one I totally agree.
I found a photo of Elvis teaching a toddler aged Lisa Marie how to ride her tricycle.
That's the feeling I get from this song: The loving trust between father and child.
Anyway I got an eyelash in my eye. Stupid eyelash blurring my vision.
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕

Elvis was not hesitant or ashamed to stand on stage holding a lyric sheet -- he did it also in 1972 in Greensboro, North Carolina for the song "Burning Love" when he told the audience it was a new song & excuse him if he goofs it up as he held his lyric sheet. How many singers do you know who would be so natural & comfortable in a situation like that. When backstage he mentions that he was nervous about forgetting the lyrics, & sure enough at 6:21 there was that barely discernible flub & the little laugh. The backups, the musicians -- over the top amazing. It wasn't just a matter of good voices & good musicians who could be over-the-top powerful & glass shattering -- there was a classy-ness to the entire production & performances. I actually like when they show a bit of his leg &/or boot, it's only a couple of seconds & it just shows how he was reacting to the feel of the music.

Also, in the movie, they show him pre-performance concerned that he would forget the first line of this song--he said if he can get the first line he would be good….which is why he is holding the vocal sheet-and in his Elvis way-he makes it a joke before launching into his masterful performance of the song.

Elvis was so nervous he’d forget the 1 st lines of the song. There is footage of the rehearsal where he mentions it was a new song. Then too there is footage of him on opening night with some of the guys, where he says he is so nervous he’ll forget the beginning lyrics. There is also footage of the entire group backstage and he was still concerned. He ended up playing it safe and read the opening lines. He introduced it as a new song by BJ Thomas and said he didn’t really like the song, and made the audience and some of the guys laugh.

He does actually sing the wrong lyrics towards the end of the song. I think it probably would've gone unnoticed by us except that he laughs when he realises that the backing singers are singing different lyric and that it's him who's gone wrong 😊

He has so many facets to his sound. With every era, I grew up with him, basically discovering every new turn, musically he took. He always says in interviews, " I hope I have improved, I have tried to learn more as I go. I really want to keep people interested in my sound and different types of music, so I can give them the whole thing, the improved me." Well of course I was blown away in 1956, It never occurred to me that he would get better and better, that was just a bonus. Thanks Seph, you nailed it again.💗

This song is just amazing and your reaction to this brought a tear to my eye!
If Elvis had decided to make a studio recording of this song, in Nashville during June 1970 for example, would it have been any better than this performance which became the RCA master? Personally I have my doubts, since to me this is beyond perfection and as such I must nail my colours to the mast and admit that this is my all time favourite Elvis recording.
To create a musical masterpiece within the studio environment, Suspicious Minds for example, is one thing when you have a top rate producer (Chips Moman) a single minded determined artist (Elvis) and the best possible material and tools (the song and band) where you can take as many takes as necessary. To make a classic like this in one take, in a live environment is something most singers can only aspire to.
If there is one line to sum up this song (and Bridge Over Troubled Water from the same show) and Elvis Presley in August 1970 in particular it is this - many can sing but only few can perform!!
Released by B.J. Thomas earlier the same year, this version shows Elvis at his very, very best as the vocal is relaxed yet powerful, both band and orchestra are virtually flawless. Elvis' singing of the word 'girl' at the end of the first verse is almost unbelievable!
This version, from 11 August Dinner Show, was selected both for the movie and to open the original That’s The Way It Is 1970 album, and due to public demand was released as a single in the UK reaching #6.

Hey, Steph. The band members' names are Ronnie Tutt on drums, John Wilkerson on rhythm guitar, James Burton on lead guitar, Jerry Scheff on fender bass Charlie Hodge sang harmony with Elvis. Also, the Sweet Inspirations , Millie Kirkham was the high voice singer. The Jordanaires

The Imperials Quartet not The Jordanaires were with Elvis in Vegas. Soon after, (as soon as he could arrange it) Elvis hired J.D. Sumner & the Stamps Quartet to play Vegas and tour with him. Elvis had known J.D. since he had been a teen in the 1940s. The Jordanaires were so in demand as studio singers in Nashville, that they never toured, nor did live concerts with Elvis in the 70s.

Another great reaction! Love the song too. Probably time for you to start learning who the main players were with Elvis in the 70s.
Cheat sheet for the TCB band-that’s what they were called. There were a few changes in the 1970s but these were the main players:
    James Burton- lead guitar
    Ronnie Tutt- drums
    Jerry Scheff- bass
    John Wilkinson- rhythm guitar
    Glen Hardin- piano/keyboards
    Background vocals:
    Sweet inspirations
The Imperials-male group which later was replaced in 1971 by JD Sumner and the Stamps quartet-JD had the lowest bass voice- you’ll see or hear soon
High Soprano- Millie Kirkham who will be replaced by Kathy Westmoreland soon after Millie leaves in 1970
Behind all that is a big orchestra led by Joe Guercio conductor
Finally- Elvis’ good friend Charlie Hodge. He’s the little guy that sings harmony with Elvis and all around gofer- gives him the scarves, hands him his guitar, gives him water etc on stage

OMG! HAD TO PAUSE AT 3:18 TIME STAMP!
Seph my good man it's Tutt Scheff... Elvis used to joke say those two together fast enough and it sounds like 'tough shit'.
I can't remember how Elvis worded the joke on stage but I got it immediately and laughed my buns off because it was then I realized "Holy Cannoli, he's right! That's hilarious!"
    Ronnie Tutt- Drums.
    Jeff Scheff- Bassist/ Bass Player.
And oh okay what the hell:
This performance is from the August 11, 1970 Dinner Show, link here: ruclips.net/p/PLHFF336wAnIja1z_jg_0O4U2t8ln4scuM&si=Fq_UpePZN3kPltNT
Link to just the "I Just Can't Help Believin'" August 11, 1970 DS here- and note in this version- the original- there is no one harmonizing with Elvis hence why Elvis looked back over his shoulder during the first verse of the song. Someone missed their cue obviously (most likely Charlie Hodge): ruclips.net/video/iRuv7_Co_Nw/видео.htmlsi=2E8m8z3Va7nbZO1L
Moving on: Song Info here: The same songwriting duo that wrote "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"- Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil- also wrote "I Just Can't Help Believin'".
Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann are noted as one of the most successful American songwriting duo (they were also a married songwriting duo just FYI). They're both legends honestly. They wrote a lot of hits apparently.
Anyway songwriting info here according to Wiki: "I Just Can't Help Believing" is a song written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
The song was most successful after it was recorded by B. J. Thomas and released as a single in 1970. It went to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and spent one week at No. 1 on the Easy Listening (adult contemporary) chart.
Thomas re-recorded "I Just Can't Help Believing" with Vince Gill for his 2013 album The Living Room Sessions. This was released as a single on June 3, 2013.
I should add others have also recorded this song besides B.J. Thomas and Elvis Presley.
Now I will say this: B.J. Thomas did not write this song obviously. In fact B.J. Thomas himself saw Elvis perform this song live and said that vocally Elvis was untouchable. B.J. Thomas praised Elvis and highly respected him as a singer.
There is absolutely no need to make it into a competition on who sang it better. Opinions will always vary.
I respect all opinions because I understand music is personal. It REALLY depends on the listener.
However it's silly to pit two men against each other who have both been gone from this earth for decades who themselves had no beef with each other, like NONE.
Elvis did his thing on this song. B.J. Thomas did his own thing on the song.
A song, I will add, neither of them wrote. It's not about that.
It's about what hits you in the feels. As long as a singer can make you FEEL something when they are singing a song, does it REALLY matter who wrote it?
    Okay, rant over now.
    Seph, pray continue on.
I already know this is gonna be a banger reaction 😍💖🌟😍💖🌟😍💖🌟😍💖🌟
Songwriter info will be in a separate comment.

4th comment: Barry Mann (born Barry Imberman; February 9, 1939) is an American songwriter and musician, and was part of a successful songwriting partnership with his wife, Cynthia Weil.
Mann was born to a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York City, United States. He was born two days before fellow songwriter Gerry Goffin.
His first successful song as a writer was "She Say (Oom Dooby Doom)", a Top 20 chart-scoring song composed for the band The Diamonds in 1959. Mann co-wrote the song with Mike Anthony (Michael Logiudice). In 1961, Mann had his greatest success to that point with "I Love How You Love Me", written with Larry Kolber and a No. 5 scoring single for the band The Paris Sisters (seven years later, Bobby Vinton's version would reach the Top 10). The same year, Mann himself reached the Top 40 as a performer with a novelty song co-written with Gerry Goffin, "Who Put the Bomp", which parodied the nonsense words of the then-popular doo-wop genre.
Despite his success as a singer, Mann chose to channel his creativity into songwriting, forming a prolific partnership with Weil, a lyricist he met while both were staff songwriters at Don Kirshner and Al Nevin's company Aldon Music, whose offices were located in Manhattan, near the composing-and-publishing factory the Brill Building. Mann and Weil, who married in 1961, developed some songs intended to be socially conscious, with successes such as "Uptown" by The Crystals, "We Gotta Get out of This Place" by the Animals, "Magic Town" by The Vogues, and "Kicks" by Paul Revere & the Raiders. Mann and Weil were disturbed when "Only In America", a song they had written with the team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and conceived originally for and recorded by the Drifters as a protest against racial prejudice, was re-worked by Leiber and Stoller into an uncontroversial success for Jay & The Americans.
As of May 2009, Mann's song catalog lists 635 songs. He has received 56 popular music, country, and Rhythm & Blues awards from Broadcast Music Inc., and 46 Millionaire Awards for radio performances numbering more than one million plays. The song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", co-written with Weil and Phil Spector, was the most played song of the 20th century, with more than 14 million plays.
Mann has composed songs for movies, most notably "Somewhere Out There", co-written with Weil and James Horner, for the 1986 animated movie An American Tail. Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram performed the song as a duet during the movie's closing credits; their version was released as a single, which scored No. 2 on the Billboard chart and became a "gold"-scoring record. "Somewhere Out There" would win two 1987 Grammy Awards, as Song of the Year and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture or Television. "Somewhere Out There" was also nominated for a 1986 Oscar as best song, but lost to "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun (a film that featured the Weil-penned "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" in a key scene). Mann's other movie work includes the scores for I Never Sang for My Father and Muppet Treasure Island, and songs for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Oliver & Company.
Mann co-wrote, with Dan Hill, the song "Sometimes When We Touch", which scored No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1987, Mann and Weil were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2011, they received the Johnny Mercer Award, the greatest honor from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Mann and Weil were named among the 2010 recipients of Ahmet Ertegun Award from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Mann and Weil operated a publishing company named Dyad Music.
Mann was married to Cynthia Weil from 1961 until her death in 2023. They had one daughter, Jenn. They resided in Beverly Hills, California.

B.J. Thomas had the hit earlier that year & Elvis joked about not liking it - so he should sing it. (They were friends.) That is Charlie Hodge singing with Elvis, doubling his part. He could double the vocals on just about anything Elvis sang and sound very much like him. However, Ed Enoch of the Stamps Quartet (the blond) could cover Elvis’ parts exactly and you could NOT tell their voices apart if they decided to sing like each other! That’s a fact! The baritone sax/ trombones/piano unison parts are awesome, also. You should check out some B.J. Thomas. There is better yet to come in 1971….

5th comment: Cynthia Weil (October 18, 1940 - June 1, 2023) was an American songwriter who wrote many songs together with her husband Barry Mann. Weil and Mann were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. In 1987, she was inducted with her husband into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 2011, they jointly received the Johnny Mercer Award, the highest honor bestowed by that Hall of Fame.
Weil and her husband, both based at the Brill Building, were instrumental in shaping the sound of rock and roll in the 1960s, alongside other luminaries such as Carole King, Burt Bacharach, and Neil Diamond.
Weil was born in New York City on October 18, 1940. She grew up on the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side of Manhattan in a Conservative Jewish family. Her father was Morris Weil, a furniture store owner and the son of Lithuanian-Jewish immigrants, and her mother was Dorothy Mendez, who grew up in a Sephardic Jewish family in Brooklyn. Weil trained as an actress and dancer, studying theater at Sarah Lawrence College, but soon demonstrated a songwriting ability that led to her collaboration with Barry Mann, whom she married in August 1961. The couple had one daughter, Jenn Mann. Weil became one of the Brill Building songwriters of the 1960s, and one of the most important writers during the emergence of rock and roll.
Weil and her husband went on to create songs for many contemporary artists, winning several Grammy Awards as well as Academy Award nominations for their compositions for film. As their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame biography put it, in part: "Mann and Weil's... [works went from] epic ballads ('On Broadway', 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'') to outright rockers ('Kicks', 'We Gotta Get Out of This Place') [and they also] placed an emphasis on meaningful lyrics in their songwriting. With Weil writing the words and Mann the music, they came up with a number of songs that addressed such serious subjects as racial and economic divides[,] 'Uptown', ...and the difficult reality of making it in the big city ('On Broadway'). 'Only in America'... tackled segregation and racism, making it rather too controversial for the Drifters, who were the intended artists. 'We Gotta Get Out of This Place' became an anthem for [the] Vietnam soldier, antiwar protesters, and young people who viewed it as an anthem of greater opportunities."
In 1987, she was inducted with her husband into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 1988, Weil won two awards at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards for co-writing "Somewhere Out There" from the animated film An American Tail: Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
In 2004, Mann and Weil's They Wrote That? a musical revue based on their songs, opened in New York. In it, Mann sang and Weil related stories about the songs and their personal history. Weil and Mann were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 in the Ahmet Ertegun Award category. "From the bottom of my heart and with the greatest humility," Weil said in her acceptance, "I thought you guys would never ask." In 2011, Mann and Weil received the Johnny Mercer Award, the highest honor from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In 2015, Weil published her first novel, I'm Glad I Did, a mystery set in 1963.
Weil was inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023.
Weil died at home in Beverly Hills, California, on June 1, 2023, at age 82.
For more info link here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_Weil
Highly recommend reading the list of songs she co- wrote with her husband Barry Mann. I think some will be surprised.

I really like this song, and I agree, Elvis' vocal is in top form. It reminds me of another tune that I've been trying to place. The verse vocal melody has similarities with opening verse in "MacArthur Park."
I love this bit where you are trying to remember the band member's name but only recall that his name sounds funny when said in a certain way. (2:56) And for what it's worth, I too just read this man's name and I can't recall it only minutes later.
"I love all parts of the Elvis, but why are they showcasing his feet here? I'd rather see the rest of him. Lovely feet! Lovely shoes! The bellbottoms, amazing! You know, I'd rather see the rest of him! Ya know, why? Put the camera up! Oh, that's better!" (3:17) I love the part where you will the camera to pan up with your hands, and it works!
Those harmonies are fantastic when Elvis sings, "And I just can't help believing, when she's whispering her magic, and her tears are shining honey sweet with love" (4:01) And then you exclaim, "Oh, man! So slinky smooth! Oh, I dropped my thing!" Yay! You left in the blooper!
Moving on to 1971, huh. That's a good year, but I might be biased. 😉
I'm shocked how at the end you are able to sing the melody of the entire song while reading the lyrics, and you've only heard it once! (9:29) Respect, Dude! Beautifully sung!
I also love the lyric where Elvis sings, "Well, I just can't help believin', when she slips her hand in my hand, and it feels so small and helpless, and my fingers fold around it like a glove." (10:04) I too thought that sounded pretty romantic, but after reading Sammy's comment about the song being about his daughter, I think that's right. Which, of course, deflates the romantic notions.
"Oh, I just can't believin'!" *Sing the song baby!* "Oh, I just can't believin'!" *One more time!* "Oh, I just can't believin'!" *Yeah, one more!* "Oh, I just can't believin'!" (10:38) So friggin' cute and well edited, Seph!

Hey Brad! My sincere apologies for deflating the romantic notions 🙏
Interestingly enough it was a woman who was the lyricist of this song.
Cynthia Weil just passed on last year, may she rest in peace.
So I am wondering when she and Barry Mann (the composer as well as her husband) had their daughter.
If they had their daughter before they wrote this song I can easily see how being a parent would have motivated a mother to come up with these lyrics. (Not to say men can't and have not come up with some amazing lyrics, they absolutely have.)
It's just I could see the love a parent has for their child could motivate them to come up with the words to describe the humbling and wondrous trust a child displays towards the parents/ guardians in their beginning years.
It's very sweet. I think so anyway 😊💗💕

This one i actually cheated before reading the lyrics "well more singing then reading haha". I listened to the song 4 times off camera to fully immerse myself. I also picked up on the tiny lyrical mistake he does and incorporated the actual lyric, i even put enthusiast on that part but forgot to put in the text explaining why i sang it like that haha
And OMG if this was about his daughter then it changes the tone of the song completely! Hmmmm very interesting take Sammy! "If you be reading haha"
I don't know Macarthur park :( but i'm going to agree with you anyways :D
So you like this song then Brad?

    • @balovett
      @balovett 2 месяца назад

@@SephPlays I like that you are giving us a peek behind the curtain with the admission that you listened to the song additional times before the end singing performance. You're so darn honest!
I listened to this song many times while preparing my reaction and became quite fond of it. The vocal melody really compliments Elvis' range.
And another song that I'm reminded of just popped into my head, Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You." Again, the vocal melody in both are very similar. If you don't know Frankie's version, you might remember Pet Shop Boys' cover of the tune embedded in their cover of U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off You)," if that isn't confusing enough!
And back to the other song this reminds me of, "MacArthur Park." Donna Summer popularized that song in 1978 with her disco cover that I'm tempted to say, "You may have heard before," but I'm getting better about understanding that you probably haven't! 😉

There is something from 1970 I think is real good but not part of the That'sThe Way It Is you may want to consider -- it's the "sit down outtake" at ruclips.net/video/9lm5m0H0LQk/видео.html -- here he is exhausted, hair wet & needed to sit down -- this version has all 4 songs on it & quite enjoyable; had gone down into the audience again for a 2nd time & when he came back on stage, a woman called up to him -- his response was, "Honey, I wouldn't go back down there again for love nor money." They really messed him up that time & there is a small bit of film of them lifting him into the air. Anyway, it's an enjoyable 9 1/2 min.

    A couple things:
I like the oddball shots of Elvis’s feet. For one, it gives you a better idea of the Whole Elvis, and for another, “absence makes the heart grow fonder”: when the camera is off his face, all we want is for the camera to get back on there! Suspense!
I thought it was funny how you grabbed your collar when you referred to The Elvis, and flipped your own collar up. 😂 Not sure if you meant to do that but there it is.
Lastly, I suspect you actually have a nice singing voice, but you always speed it up (which is funny!), but you have good pitch and vibrato. You should humor your viewers with an Elvis & Seph duet. 😉
