I tell all my friends what Gamepass is and explain it and they still don’t want it or care….many people think a gaming sub is insane and will never sub and play 1-2 games a year. It’s not a marketing thing Xbox can sell games to PS

To Jaffe's point about the T-Mobile thing around the 1:50:00 mark. I got a 6 months free spotify premium sub from Xbox and that was almost 7 years ago now and guess what?? I'm still rockin' that premium subscription and love it!
I have had gamepass for 1$ for over 2 years now I think lol. Add on the rest of my gold sub I stacked...I essentially am not paying anything haha

Jaffe was spot on with his assessment of Xbox tbh. I know some people are still riding high from the excellent showcase, but that doesn't change the fact that they've horrible mismanaged studios, been terrible with marketing and communication, and are inconsistent with quality.
I'm relatively optimistic about 2025, but let's not just gloss over the last decade of shortcomings.

Most people don’t want wallbouncing removed from gears; what they want is for it to be balanced. So instead of being able to cancel your slide like you can in every game after 1, you need to physically touch the wall and commit to the move like you you to in 1/UE.
The only things I disagree with is how he doesn’t mind that Xbox leaves the console business.
Why would they leave the console business?, in some ways he is very forward thinking but in this aspect it seems very traditionalist. I think a Xbox doesn’t need to sell 100m to be successful but definitely more than they are doing now for sure.
Built my gaming pc 4 years ago and my One X sat on a shelf never to be played be me again. Sold it to my sister like 3 months ago. Gamepass on PC provides what I was getting on console and better in some cases. If I get nostalgic I rebuy the game on steam or gog and now can mod after a full run. So I def can see a no console future
The problem is, their hardware on serious decline. Considering that fact that they have game, they have Gamepass, it's very very clear that gamers (the casual audience) don't want to own an Xbox. Do they need to sell 100m? No of course not. Do they need to stay relevant and find ways to sell their console?....yessss.

I think jaffe was pretty on point. MS do have enough studios now but it still feels like lack of quality control when it comes to xbox. It seems like it’s going to improve starting next year and in 2026 but even if it does they can't, under no circumstance let it drop from there if they are serious about gamepass growth and brand reputation.

You gotta remember that games arent the same as TV/Movies. clearly game pass isnt growing leaps and bounds the way Netflix did even after all these years. if a product is awesome, it would market itself and word of mouth spreads out. Netflix didnt market anything and it's dominated the world. Game pass should be at 50-100 million subs by now, but it isnt even close to that.
But the word of mouth is there. There's just a smaller audience for Games than there is for TV.

It's not meteoric grown for sure, but it is growing.
I don't think it'll every come to replace Steam, but I think more and more PC players will open up to having it as well as Steam

Jez’s defense rant of Booty was bizarre & unfortunately an example of what Xbox’s fans think of.
Jaffe was speaking about Booty from a games PoV, yet money was brought up.
Also just because the games hit the top meta critic list (I suppose that is not being used again) it doesn’t mean the games will help attract mindshare. That’s what Jaffe was alluding to.

1:17:00 the xbox had a very short window of outsellg playstation.. Jaffe was right about it being PS5 was harder to get ao people just bought the Xbox. Plus the Series S was the one that was flying off the shelves, the series X is such a small portion of the total number

Jaffe talking badly about Psychonauts 2, Grounded, HiFi Rush, and Deathloop is actually infuriating.
Xbox deserves criticism sometimes, but not for those games.
Those games are not good IP. They are B tier.

I would just want to ask him a little bit about Sony's games...
Because it seems to me that Sony doesn't really continue its franchises from generation to generation as much as we all remember/think we remember.
Ratchet n Clank has put out games on every generation of PlayStation.
But whatever happened to the Jak and Daxter franchise? I feel like their last original game was in the PS3.
Even games like Parappa the Rapper, who was just showcased in the Astro Bot game, It has been since the PS2.
Sony has a ton of awesome legacy IP, even like SOCOM which was brought up, but they have not been as good about bringing it up from generation to generation as much as people seem to think.
Not saying that Xbox has either, besides Halo and Forza and Gears. But they both could take a page out of Nintendos book when it comes to creating and maintaining IP's.
I really hope Xbox takes more of a legitimate look at that going forward with all these studios. If they are going to give everyone the freedom to create the games they want n new IP, they need to have these same studios mature these IP and maintain them going forward.
It's simple. Those developers you spoke of besides Insomniac just don't want to work on those ganes anymore, Sony dosent force them like many people believe and I think it's good for franchises to rest to allow new ones to grow.

2:25:17 isn't that already happening? If I'm building a game, and I know that software in general isn't selling well on a platform (in this case Xbox, because of gamepass), and I have to make cost decisions, not developing for Xbox is an easy decision to make, because very few people or none would buy my game anyway

Ik people say kids only play fortnite and don't care about owning games. But they act like they not gonna grow up and want to own what they play . Dont think that same kid at 28 years old gonna still be on roblox and dont care about owning what they buy
To Jaffe's point about Xbox management compared to Sony's, the problem is Sony puts out a very restricted set of games that follow a well known formula (3rd person action/adventure games) while Xbox Studios put out a wide range of games so it's comparing apples to oranges. It's a lot easier to manage games that are mostly the same and pump them out so Booty does have a harder time of it with the diverse range he deals with not to mention the internal studios like Bethesda and Activision who want to do it their way. Maybe they should have different game managers for the different genres of games in Xbox who are overseen by Booty and then they could manage them more closely and efficiently.
Love how Rand tries to justify the terrible decisions of a trillion dollar corporation. Next time he's calling out the fanboys he should look in the mirror. I'm so glad Jaffe was here to call him out

Agree- it's a terrible habit and comes w/the ADD. I've tried to improve and I have but I'm not far along enough in my training and thus I slip back into bad habits way too easily. I'm working on it!
As someone with ADD this is a common trait that unfortunately we have to try to control. As soon as something comes to mind we HAVE to say it. It's a compulsive behavior that's tough to to get a handle on sometimes. We're not trying to be rude. I have to tell people all of the time to let me know if I'm interjecting too much or rambling.

Here is where sony succed where ms dont... Sony has been in entertainment for years... Ms is just a software company... They need to hire people from the entertainment industry to know how to deliver something that clicks...
I think its about having A tier executives, especially in a creative business where guidance likely requires more nuance than a corporate one that perhaps has a clearer path to success. Xbox had this in the 360 era and the jury's out on whether this is coming back. Meanwhile, PlayStation seems to be losing the laser focus they've had since the start of the PS4 gen with some of their more recent moves. Will they retain their dominance? I don't think console sales alone will be enough in future.
Xbox has more players with 10m+ players than Sony..

Surely what Jaffe says about Sony no longer holds. Spiderman 2 was super buggy and not really great Insomniacs platformer Ratchet had no collision detection. The games Sony are funding like Stellar Blade lack that Sony quality so yes in the past Sony’s quality was there but no more even Silent Hill remake look so generic.
So bow compulsion and undead labs are trash? Now the only thing that should be bought is big franchises that make the same shit no original games no building up studios no seeing potinal in anyone unless there huge devs with huge ips no taling risk

@@portalplayer I am an Xbox and Playstation fan. I own both systems and enjoy them almost equally. I do favor playing on Xbox if the game is on that system, especially if it is on Game Pass. Anyway, the guest was a perfect example of why I don't listen to many PlayStation centric channels. They seem to enjoy bashing Xbox just to feed the hatred. With that said, the Xbox centric channels I listen to very rarely bash PlayStation. If they do, I end my subscription and look elsewhere for my gaming news. Neither platform is perfect and too think otherwise is playing into the Xbox or PlayStation "fan boy" crap that I despise so much.
Playstation fans accuse him of the exact opposite. He constantly praises the vision of Game Pass and says Sony won't be able to compete with it.

Crystal Skull was a disaster. Dial of Destiny was enjoyable. It's a shame it didn't perform better at the box office. I thought it was a worthy send off for Indy.
