In July 1942 the USS Grunion, an American submarine commanded by Lieutenant Commander Mannert "Jim" Abele, dove to evade a Japanese attack roughly 10 miles northeast of Kiska in the Aleutian Islands, and was never heard from again. John Abele will take us on the remarkable journey in search of his father's submarine. Mixing his personal account with actual underwater footage and photos, Abele will tell of the international cast of characters who came together to help the team find the Grunion and also provide closure to those who were left behind to wonder what had befallen the crew members.

My father is the son of a World War II submariner, who is on Eternal Patrol. This is quite moving, and I'm happy for the Abele family that they found the sub. My grandfather's sub is in the Luzon Strait. My father and I are content with the boat being a final resting place for its 87 hands, undisturbed.

Love how you thanked the Russians for the MILLIONS of their soldiers and citizens who contributed to 'YOUR' victory in WWII...…..

Considering the duplicity of Stalin in purging his own military of leadership and forging an alliance with Hitler, I think the thanks are slightly strained. If not for Hitler making a stupid mistake, they would never have been involved in the war. So our gratitude to the Russians should be rather weak.

Typical, tiresome Russian chauvinist - ignores North Africa, the Battle of the Atlantic, Italy, the Pacific, China-Burma-India, Lend-Lease, and the Strategic Bombing campaign.
