Hi Jess, I'm a special education teacher and I cook with my students weekly. My kids are enjoying trying new foods (for kids with autism, that's huge) and yesterday I had a parent ask for a recipe book of the things we've tried this year. I was already planning for that as a parting gift for this year's students. Thanks for inspiring us to cook real food that mostly tastes good. Blessings!

Please keep doing those "more raw" edited videos. I like them better actually. You have a gift with your transparency that helps us all. I started watching you while i went through cancer surgeries and then chemo and radiation a year after that, so a few years now since diagnosed in 2020. And this year I am finally strong enough to do my garden in a serious mode of enjoyment. Getting back to my vegetable garden and flower beds were a big part of what kept me fighting. being with my furry ones in the gardens and dirt in my hands. :)

As a suggestion for great snacks for kids (what I used to do) - get some springroll wrappers (like eggroll wrappers, but thinner & they get crispier). Then toss anything you have into them and freeze them (cooked or not). If you freeze them raw, they'll need to be baked/deep-fried. But if you freeze them cooked, they can be microwaved. I've filled springrolls with traditional Chinese vegetables, but I more often go 'fusion'.' I've made 'shepherd's pie' rolls, curry rolls, pork bbq & coleslaw rolls, steak & potato rolls....whatever you have. It's a great way to 'dress up' leftovers. Get all the kids together & have a great big 'rolling party' and fill the freezer with enough snacks for months. And they work just as well for breakfast (especially a hand-held 'run out the door to get to school' breakfast) as they do for a snack or even a light dinner.

Jackson is turning into a very good-looking young man.
I have 4 kids ( 3 boys and 1 girl). One of my boys got into bodybuilding. In 8th grade, he was wrestling, but the kids called him Little Bit. The following year, all he wanted was weights, so he got a weight set to work out with. His bedroom had a mattress (he did not want a bed in there), a small dresser, and his weight machine. Over the years, we sold the weight machine, and he started to go to the gym. In high school, he was known as the kid with muscles - no more Little Bit. He actually did do some body building competition. Unfortunately, he started having kidney issues in 2017, and last year, he had a kidney transplant. Even through the years, he was doing dialysis, and after the transplant, he continued to go to the gym. I tell him he is my hero with his dedication, and even when things got rough for him, he never gave up.

Just what I've been missing with hanging out with a few of my friends who live hours away from us - we just cook most of the time we are visiting... lol... I learn so much from them... However, food is a lot to life and when you have hungry kids coming in from playing...
Heheh.... don't worry my 11 year old boy gives me the 'Cringe Mum' look too when I adjust hair in front of others...
Or from our 2 year old brown tabby cat when I want huggies - a outsretched paw with the same look of 'cringe Mum'....
Grateful that you have let us look in the window of your life today - grounds me again since I've been feeling a bit lost with my parenting (for my kids and relating to my folks) and it does give me a different perspective to keep going. To enjoy life - to inspire my heart and others hearts at the same time...

I recently found the best healthy paprika sauce! I already eat many veggies but with this sauce i can easily eat a jar of greenbeens and chickpeas or lentils to have a lower carb meal!
    - grill 1 paprika
    - blend it after with half a block of veggie stock
    - add about 50 ml of water and 50 ml of cream

    "We just eat simple"...
We didn't even have a whisk in my mom's house until I was 25 yrs old, I didn't hear of pesto until I was older than that and I never heard of a frittata until after I found your channel 3 years ago😅
Simple food for me is that burger patty you had for breakfast or eating fried potatoes w/onion for the 3rd night this week, lol.
I do cook and eat mostly real foods and I am learning to can and preserve but alot of folks would get pretty bored of my cooking 😁

I can really appreciate this video because I am in the process of shedding a lot of excess weight. I've started eating much cleaner and high protein foods do fuel your body. I feel good when I start the day with meat too! You go girl!

My niece went on a cruise and didn't want to take her 7 yr old son and I told her I would watch him for her and her husband. Well he wanted to eat cookies for breakfast. So I decided to make chocolate chip oatmeal cookies with his choice of nuts. But what I didn't tell him was that I put protein powder in the cookies to make them healthy and reduced the sugar as well. The whole week that his parents were gone he thought he was getting away with something his parents would never let him do. He was in heaven.
When his parents came to pick him up he told them he ate cookies for breakfast the whole time they were gone. I told him at that time what I had done to his cookies and he was shocked that I made them taste so good. He is now a young man of 16 and still asks me to make him breakfast cookies.
Like Jess is telling us, you can take a familiar recipe and tweek it the way you want to fit you and your families life styles. Have fun and enjoy life. We are not hear on this earth for very long. Make fun happy memories. Blessings to all!

@@jenbear8652 Thank you! I used the unsweetened, unflavored protein powder. You can't taste it. And the nuts add more fiber and protein. He never knew until I told him. LOL!!

Since having my most recent baby, we often eat breakfast foods for dinner. I’ve also started making a lot of unconventional meals with just stuff I have. It usually comes out really well! I recently make up some hash browns and topped them with scrambled eggs, shredded beef (traditionally for cheesesteaks), and cheese…so good!

We only eat breakfast on the weekend, and we don't eat it until at least 11 am, so it is really "brunch". Today I ate eggs and grits for lunch bc I'm under the weather and grits just sounded good. I usually only eat between 11 am and 7 pm. I feel much better this way and fewer meals to cook.

You can see the love you have for your son /family when you look at them… such a good a good Mama❤️ We have what my son loves to call “Brinner” all the time (breakfast for dinner 😅) but I honestly don’t mind eating breakfast anytime of the day, or dinner for breakfast. You’re right, food is good for fuel. Your videos always inspire me. Thank you for blessing us with your time/knowledge ☺️🥰

I love eating what I call "one ingredient snacks" for a meal. Having 3 small snacks of different food groups an hour apart is so much easier than making a multi dish meal and it means not ordering food. But now I'm hoping to learn more cooking skills to be able to make those meals and make it enjoyable
