Making a boarding ax from an old mason's hammer using old equipment and using strict technology. Purpose: tourist, camping, camp, light ax. #Reforged #tomahawk
I would personally call that a boarding axe for two reasons... First, boarding axes almost always have that rear spike, as well as that sleeve that extends down to protect the upper-most part of the haft. Second, tomahawks, by definition, have hafts that are friction fitted by inserting the haft into the top of the "eye" of the head(the eye should also taper from top to bottom). Anytime you are using a wedge like that, it becomes an axe. All that being said... You've created a beautiful piece! A beautiful boarding axe! Important point however, most histories of the tomahawk cite the boarding axe as its ancestor, and original inspiration.
The work here is really nicely performed, and i like how you make axes from everyday objects! It is really relaxing to watch how you do your magnificent job, it makes me want a snack when i watch! I love how you not grind or mill the axe, but just sharpen the edges and the pick up front, but just leave the rest of the axe untouched! That, by the way, gives a really nice look to the final product. Keep up the good work! Greetings from a Norwegian family in The Netherlands on Summer vacation!
of all the things i have seen on youtube this is the first time ive seen anyone use the pointed side of the hammer and the first file on hot metal that was awesome very cool work
