    I had similar experience with my contractor. It was so badly done, I refused to pay for his labor. To be fair, I paid for materials. And now I am redoing it from the beginning with total tear down.

      Same situation just happened to me today. The contractor was 60% completed on bathroom wall tile. I didn't pay, but since it wasn't completed, should I even pay anything because the contractor did not fulfill as promised. I just don't want any problems. Thanks

    What folks need to understand (spoken from my own bad experiences) is that a lot of these subcontractors your GC hires aren’t really professionals. Rather, they’re just laborers that will do the bare minimum for a “passable” job. Most property owners have no clue about construction or an eye for detail, which I think the GC/subcontractors bank on. I’m currently having my contractor redo my bathroom because the tile contractor he hired did a job I wouldn’t even consider on the DIY level in terms of quality. I hate dealing with contractors…

  • @drsnooz8112
    @drsnooz8112 6 месяцев назад +3

    High-end details, like linear drains and freestanding tubs, require high-end contractors. You can't ask a guy who only knows how to install plastic shower surrounds to do work like that. He will get in over his head and bail.

    That is a terrible experience. Hope you take him to small claims court and get as much of your money back as possible for that horribly substandard work. If the contractor states two weeks, I would give him 1/3 up front and, depending on the progress shown, additional thirds every five days......no progress, no money.

    • @michaelstrang2563
      @michaelstrang2563 6 месяцев назад

      This isn’t uncommon and is easy to deal with, you simply have them tear out the floor and redo the drain correctly. The cut back tile on the window is clearly for some trim detail, the finish issues with the paint are quick and easy, and lastly the tile blocking the door takes five minutes to fix. We don’t know what he paid, but for a professional it could easily be 60k.

  • @ahuachapan2

    That setter has no business doing a shower pan. He had no clue what he was doing, I wonder how he did his mud for the slope. Why the smaller cut tile on the wall near pan. Window jamb extensions should have been tile. On the pocket door, after you figure finish floor height, you can trim with track saw, door hanging, saw on its side, protect finish floor, cut it. I would do a GFCI plug behind tub.

  • @woodmasterguy

    After 40+ years of having a Home Repair business, I have seen a lot of terrible work. GCs do NOT do any work. They sub out all trades. All GCs rob peter to pay paul on every job. If you want the work done right, you learn the ins and outs of your project, then you hire each trade. Be there when all work is done, ask questions, trust no one. I know it's tough, but in today's crap economy, it's all about money. Craftsmanship is gone.

    In my experience, a pretty website and a confident salesman don’t equal good work. It’s a strange system when the person giving you assurances is never a part of the installation process. Not even the same company doing the work actually. Misaligned motives and incentives where responsibility and liability are avoided like the plague.

    Say what you want; some of those contractors are hiring migrants and they do work according to how things operate in their home country. They don’t follow the housing codes for this country. I’ve even heard horror stories about brand new homes too. I recently saw a video where the worker was applying drywall to the outside of the house instead of the inside. So I went with them. Big mistake. All of the plumbing has been re-done so far - by them. But at the end of the day I'll have to redo it. So $5k wasted and so many phone calls wasted puling teeth for them to come and fix the plumbing issues and niche holding water etc etc. Google reviews/yelp were 5 stars. Learned from that. I should of cut my losses immediately and charged them back the half I paid but I gave them too much of a chance. Salesman got me.

Clearly the pencil pusher looking to squeeze a buck everywhere you can. So here’s a red light. If you’re an actual contractor/ builder and you drive a car to the site. Sorry, anyone in the industry knows you don’t go through any job without being short or need to replace materials that may get damaged /etc. I know zero builders that do actually real work that drive to and from sites doing actual jobs, driving a car.
