My brother and I had these records. He had The Fellowship of the Ring. I had The Two Towers and The Return of the King/. They were recorded back in [the 70s, He had a good voice.
Hearing this learned Oxford professor, raised of the stock of Victorian England, doing Sam and Gollum’s voices, is perfect.

In print, I always read Sméagol as SMEY-a-gol, and didn’t understand how it had come to be rendered as SMEE-gle in the LOTR films. Now that I hear Tolkien’s pronunciation, I know. But why then the accent on the E?
