Lisle Spark Indicator 19380 review

  • I love this little guy for quick diagnosing of misfires for ruling out the spark side on gas engines. I got a deal on mine because it was labeled wrong at the store, but they aren’t that expensive to begin with. The Lisle spark tester will test spark plugs, wires and coils without puncturing the wire. While the engine is running, place the grooved end of the indicator over the plug wire, the bulb will flash indicating spark at that location.

      ZIP TIES N BIAS PLIES don't let the old lady get the mail! That just causes problems, mostly from shitty explanations on why I need this tool vs the last one I got that looked the same.

    Awesome little tool to have in your pocket. And it looks cool

      I actually did keep it in my pocket for probably about a month or so and it's held up perfectly. No batteries, it's made out of aluminum so it's rust proof... It's just all around a great little tool.

      It's great for quick diagnostics for almost anything with plug wires. Only thing I couldn't get it to work was my thick insulated radio frequency interference wires on my old 70 Chevy. Still gonna need the neighbor kid to hold the screwdriver in the end of the plug wire for that one...

    Looks like a little something every tool box should have now I have to go get one.

      It's pretty damn handy for sure. Very easy on carrying in the pocket and doesn't take up very much space either.

      They're pretty light and compact, perfect for travel boxes or keeping in the glove box of classic cars also.

    This is a twist on old hot rodder trick of glueing/taping Neon bulbs on each plug wire, That is all that is in there and it is fed by the high EMF voltage induced in the wire that transfers to the neon bulb. Neon bulbs are cool that way. Your hand grounds it. Very reliable. Used to be used for Emergency Exit lights, too because those little bulbs have a very very long rated lifespan.
    I have one like 35 years old from K mart. I know I paid under $2 for it. It seems handy but compared to the engine wire on the case I never used it very much. It's another thing to find when there is usually a quicker, easier way.

      I didn't know about the old hot rodder trick but I did understand the 'mechanics' of how they worked. I just thought it was something pretty neat for quick diagnosing of misfires without using the old screwdriver in the end of the plug wire trick.

      We used to put neon bulbs on our cb antennas. If your radio had a little power when you keyed the mic to talk they would light up the antenna on both door mirrors. Pretty cool. Until you was sitting in the truck stop at night talking shit about the hookers and making funny of guys taking 3 or 4 try’s to back in a parking spot. Everyone knew who and where you was when the antenna’s go to lighting up every time you smart off or crack about how nasty the lot lizards was there. A lot of fun back when people could take a joke

    That is pretty impressive with the coil packs never would have even thought to try that. I picked one up when you previewed them months ago. Like you said for the money you can't go wrong.

    That's awesome! I'm grabbing one. A small inexpensive tool. They carry them at Sears?

    • @HardKnocksForge

      Yep they have them at the bigger Sears. They are also on Amazon, link in description, if you don't have a bigger Sears or if they've closed already in your area.

    odd it did not work on the 70 with the insulated plug wires....no bleed through of pixies....odd

    • @HardKnocksForge
      @HardKnocksForge  6 лет назад

      Yeah it's not for the big radio interference wires for sure. I think mine are only 7mm not even the 8mm or 8.8mm stuff.

  • @MoneyMarcMes

    So this will actually tell you if your spark plugs are not working right?

    • @HardKnocksForge
      @HardKnocksForge  6 лет назад

      No it'll tell you that everything is working up to your spark plugs. If you have spark on the wire/boot but still have a misfire in that cylinder then you need to pull the plug , check compression, or start checking the fuel system.
