    thank you. THANK YOU. for speaking the truth on the vc situation. I never thought id see the day where I'd hear someone stick up for him and set the record straight on so many misconceptions. I'm the world's biggest VC fan and had live through the vitriol and hatred, knowing that the media was against him, knowing that management was getting let off the hook, and sadly thinking that nobody would ever know the truth. VC himself even said several times he hopes as the years go by, the truth would come out. hearing you speak on the situation was refreshing. thank you.

    16:50 - re: the "didnt try hard" interview. VC said afterwards he was responding to a question about summer workouts, and how he takes the first part of the summer off to heal from injuries, then he gets back to work on his game. but they edited the interview to make it look like he admitted to not "pushing himself as hard as he should've". Coach Thompson HIMSELF even called vince after the interview aired and apologized, because he too knew that is not what VC meant. but it was edited to make VC look bad.

    • @pensarebasketball
      @pensarebasketball  Месяц назад +1

      The David Thompson interview indeed did get a bad edit. As I recall the exact quote was "at times, no"
      And I thought he was taking accountability for not living up to his own lofty expectations.
      But it's so strange how taking accountability in that moment and being honest got flipped against him as an admission of guilt.
      It was just a bunch of people who had already made up their mind about him confirming their own thoughts through an impartial quote.

      @@pensarebasketball 💯 and what did Barkley say immediately after the interview: “he’s too nice. He doesn’t have that edge. He’s very frustrating” and that’s how most media members felt. He never made an All-NBA team post 2001. 2005 with nets he averaged 28ppg. 2006 team won 49 games VC was 24ppg. 2005 he played all 82 games, averaged 25 6 and 5. Couldn’t even crack all nba THIRD team. The mantra was “he’s not MJ? He’s not Kobe? He’s trash then. He should be better”. Smh

    I'm embarrassed to say I didn't watch your other neuroscience video till about a month ago, but really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one.
    Gotta say the discussion about grief really struck me. I lost my mother 2 years ago, and both my cousin and godfather almost exactly a year later. I lost interest in many things (basketball interest dipped substantially last year) but this summer felt things were not only clicking back into place, but I found myself wanting to do more than before. This summer I started writing summaries and short essays of non-fiction books I'm reading, learning to juggle and play the harmonica. I thought I was just finding new interests, but with what you mentioned about the blocked tube being unblocked, it makes more sense now.
    I'll be brushing my teeth with my other hand tonight 😂

    I'm 5 min. in on this video. I didn't even follow the NBA until I saw Prince Vince. He really earned his "Half man...half amazing" and the "Human Highlight Reel" nicknames. His high flying antics and shot creation are what made me a Raptors fan and fans around the world like me tuned into our games to see what he was going to do next. At his peak, the man couldn't be stopped. "Hell yeah!" this man deserves to have his jersey retired! I feel the (positive) spotlight he drew to Raptors, Toronto, and Canada has earned him the title of "Greatest Raptor of All Time. Listening to him in interviews and as an analyst, he has shown himself to be a class act. When he speaks, people listen, because he is smart, knows basketball and he actually makes sense! (Kinda the opposite of Big Perk.) To top it off...in his 40s...in a full business suit...VC can still easily dunk the basketball! ....Half man...half amazing. If anything, I was disappointed the Raptors weren't able to get VC to come back to Toronto on a one day contract to finish off his career as a Raptor.

    Great live as always! Personally I have done a full 360 windmill on the Vince Carter situation from him being my absolute favorite player back in 99 to 02 then hating him so bad after the departure and shit ass returns for him to now that I’m a grown man I empathize with the scenario he was placed in as a very young man and being the face of a country sport identity, who had no real understanding of the game .. also the amount of pressure and outside influence trying to seperate Vince from toronto must’ve been intense but he never said anything negative about the fan base or city/country and still is an ambassador after everything that happen.. long story shorter I’m extreamly happy to witness vincanity at its peak when we had no idea what a player like that can do the an economy and kids future hopes in a sport.. Salute to VC !

    The divorce with Vince was really tough. He was my favourite nba player, not just my favourite raptor. It’s difficult for o express how impactful he was to my love of the game. A couple of notable moments for me was watching him go back and forth with Nick Van Exel in the 4th quarter and overtime to ultimately lose but he really made most losses enjoyable to watch. Of course the playoff run going back and forth with AI as well. I’m happy we’re retiring his jersey.

    What Vince Carter did and his impact to the sport of basketball in Canada(a mainly Hockey Country) should've made him one of the 75 players. He help popularized the game when the main spirt everyone was watching is either hockey or baseball. I would've placed VC in the top 75 team instead of Dame or AD to name 2 and a couple others

    Respectfully, I agree Vince is a Raptors legend, and I do think he deserves to have his jersey retired with this franchise. His time with the organization was rough (due to roster construction and coaching), and both parties were definitely in the wrong-accountability should be split. Yet, history usually depicts Vince as someone who didn’t enjoy his time here and as some arrogant brat. The only issue I have with this is the timing. Kyle Lowry is the greatest Raptor of all time, and his career is almost finished. Since we haven’t had any jerseys retired yet, I think the first one should be his, and it kind of rubs me the wrong way knowing that it won’t be. Like I said, both parties were at fault; I mean, we did get Chris Bosh in 2003. I think the way Vince forced himself out was pretty harsh but understandable looking back at it. I don’t think how it ended is a reason to forget his time in Canada and what he did for the city and country. But I really want Lowry to be the first, like REALLY REALLY BADLY. He’s quite literally my favorite player in NBA history, and the fact that we kept going despite those years against that demon in Cleveland and how his story played out-from being a player that nobody looked at as even a consistent long-term starter in the league for a competitive team, to then turn around, land in Toronto, and work his ass off-we watched him go from a role player/backup guard to a multiple-time All-Star and heavy contributor as a starter on a championship-winning team right in front of our eyes. When we traded DeMar away-he put the team first. He never complained, even with the very loud criticism from 2016-2018 or just most of his time in Toronto. Most fans continuously asked if he was good enough to help bring a championship to Toronto, despite seeing how hard he worked and how much his game got better year after year; there was never any pushback. He always took accountability, he loved the country, and he embraced Canada so much. I definitely don’t have any issues with Vince Carter getting his jersey retired, but I don’t like the timing. Just because Brooklyn is doing it doesn’t mean you have to. If they had done it when Lowry was still on the roster, I would’ve been fine with it, but it seems more reactionary this way, which takes away a lot of the meaning behind it, and that kind of pisses me off. There’s a reason why we’re still one of the two teams to not have retired a jersey yet.

    • @pensarebasketball
      @pensarebasketball  Месяц назад

      Kyle and Vince are friends. Kyle himself advocated to bring VC back to Toronto at the end of his career. If there's anyone who would bless this decision, it would be Kyle.

    • @I-Like-Basket-Ball
      @I-Like-Basket-Ball Месяц назад

      @@pensarebasketball I don’t doubt that, Vince is the better player, but that’s the great thing about Kyle Lowry-he is a very selfless person. He would probably say both Kawhi and even DeMar deserve it ahead of him as well. The first jersey raised in those rafters should be one you look back on with positive memories-a person who not only embodies your franchise and its beliefs but also represents the essence of what the team stands for. Kyle Lowry's resilience, dedication, and selflessness are qualities that define our journey as a franchise and just our overall identity. The first jersey retirement is about honoring someone who has been a true pillar for the franchise, not just for their individual achievements or skills, but also for their unwavering commitment to the team and the city. Of all the players who have suited up for our team, there has never been a more perfect person deserving of such an honour.

    3rd jersey that should be retired is Siakam, and he should go up together with Lowry when Siakam retires. Maybe resign him. Both are long tenured Raptors with All NBA’s-Allstars, and a big part of the first ever championship.
    Derozan is best left off the rafters because it just seems like sympathy. It’s better for him to just try and win in Sacramento and both parties leave the good and the bad in the past. He simply leads in a second tier with Bosh, Vanvleet, Calderon, Peterson, Davis etc . at this point and there’s nothing wrong with that.

      @@pensarebasketball no argument. Im not “Siakam needs to be in the rafters” I just don’t think Derozan needs to be there either. I’m somebody who likes to keep things like Rafters, statues, and Hall of fame nods at a premium and not open the flood gates with “what about this guy” cries. The Raptors as a 30 year old franchise with minimal success and only one championship don’t need to decorate their stadium with so many jerseys. Carter and a nod or two to the championship squad would suffice is more so how I look at it. And Siakam fits that Bill with Lowry before Derozan (or Vanvleet for that matter). Siakam has accolades in the jersey, drafted, and loved Toronto too without getting too lengthy. I miss them both.
