Been a DM fan for 35 years. Have all of their albums. When anyone asks me what is my favorite DM song, I tell them Behind The Wheel / Route 66 remix. This is the creme de la creme!
OMG!!!! Love this song so much it hurts!! Listened to this a million times when it first came out... haven't heard it in years... sigh... so much awesome :O)
One of the first 12inch remixes I ever heard. I became a Depeche Mode Fan after hearing this remix when I was 15 years old. A fan 30 + years later this is still one of the great remixes of DM. I also was DJing church dances at the time and this remix always went down well with the crowds.
First time I ever heard this song was the 1995. Driving a U-Haul bringing a family member out to California on route 66. In the 60s as a service brat. We went back and forth from California to Illinois quite a few times on old school route 66. I live in Wickenburg south of route 66 about 66 MI away and visited often especially the town of Williams and Seligman.
Nice, I used to drive Route 66 everyday when I live in SoCal for 15 years between Barstow and Oro Grande. The road parallels the Mojave River and the plus side I am a big fan of the Depeche Mode and love listening to this song as i drove to work late an night:) Thanks for the posting
My ultimate favorite song by Depeche Mode. Class of 94 here. Saw them live on the Violator tour when i was 13. Depeche Mode was way better than Erasure, The Cure or The Pixies....whoa enjoy this awesome jam
LOVED THIS 12 INCH VERSION. I had it on vinyl and still have it, matter of fact! :-) Instead of all the high hat & tempo beats, why doesn't Depeche Mode re-release it and remix it with darker underground sounds & even trance? That would make the words to Behind the Wheel sound even sexier! MAN! AN AWESOME SONG STILL!!! Also, waiting for the night to fall should be done the same way. Loved the original and even loved the rabbit and moon remix.
Love this version. It actually inspired me to get my kicks on route 66😂. Well at least from Amarillo to Vegas. Awesome trip. I hope to take the WHOLE route before I die🎉
Back when this album was pretty new, I used to listen to Behind the Wheel (and other Depeche Mode tracks) while blasting south at 90+ MPH on Interstate 5 from SF to LA at night... Back when in-car audio meant a portable Sony CD player on a little springloaded shockresistant platform velcro'd to my dashboard, and a headphone jack->cassette player adapter... Nothing but cropland and open sky and tunes and adrenaline and engine noise.
My senior year of college (Spring Break 1994) we traveled much of what was Route 66. My friends got tired of me singing it. But it's such a great song.
My parents were supposed to take a trip across country on Route 66 for their 50th anniversary. Unfortunately my mom passed away before they were able to do this song kinda makes me sad. But still one of my all time fave DM songs!!!
Well my 13 year old is delighted I still have my Depeche Mode CDs and we are listening to them together. No way 17 year old me could have imagined this.
When moving from San Bernardino to Dallas, I decided to drive the old route between SB to OKC. MAKE SURE TO FILL UP IN LUDLOW, FENNER, TOPROCK, KINGMAN, AND SELIGMAN!!! Pretty much anytime you leave the interstate. Gas gets very sparse through some sections, particularly in the desert. Great drive though. Cheers!
i really like the beatmasters mix too i own it on vinyl and cassette and cd LoL but the mix danny did was the 1st one i had ever heard so it made an impression.
@ Mr.Don Weber you done an excellent job with the mix of this song and the illustrations of Rt 66 is very cool man. I really enjoy it and now I want to go drive this Highway just for fun.🙂👍😎
ok. i was wrong. the megamix here is 7:51 long and appears on the behind the wheel US 12". there is also a megasingle mix around 4 mins long that appeared on the 7" and on the just say yo sire sampler. the beatmasters mix still kicks both of their asses. )
Drove to the Grand Canyon. On the way - in Texas - road sign said - 124 miles to the next gas station. Pull over if you need water. We picked up four gallons. Nothing but desert and the landscape turned reddish brown.
I'm not crazy about the music but the pictures are great. If you go to 1:50, you'll see what "The Mother Road" actually looked like. Mile after mile of two-lane road with just a white, dashed line separating the traffic.
49 now & was 14 when they filmed that legendary 101 tour of America. Never gets old .
The Best Music Decade...
57 years old and still playing Depeche Mode loudly. Much to my neighbors dismay. 😊
Born '73 here, same!
Player this on Broadcast Radio in 1988 and now playing it on RUclips
74.......catch up youngster

Classic Depeche Mode here with an excellent mix. This defines the '80s. 'YOU'RE BEHIND THE WHEEL'....

OMG!! Best Version ever! I scream everty time when I hear this! *cry* DEPECHE MODE FOREVER!
This song never gets old!❤️
One of my best moments as a youth: 101 concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. RIP to my date, my ex girlfriend who passed away two years later.
Fuck you and your ex
Oh , to have been there ⚘
SO wish I could've been there.. You and your ex were lucky and have great memories to cherish! :-)
RIP. May you have solace in your heart.
Damn that sucks hear. If you don’t mind sharing, how did she pass away??

✌🎵⚘meilleur groupe au monde avec un son qui dechire grave
Route 66 on it's own is magnificent, this mix is sensational, just like 📢 DM 📢 Don't ever leave us guys 📢🙏
❤
This band never gets old. I listened when i was a teenager, I'm 47 still listening.
Great Depeche mode mix
Behind the Wheel made dM love at first listen back in the day. Living a block off Route 66, the single - and this megamix - clinched it.
This was a big hit in Montreal clubs during this period! So many good memories....
This is exactly what I came here for.
This is the best BTW/R66 version. Thank you for the upload.
also the sexiest. that dave.
I saw a video of Route 66 on PBS with this mix back in the 1980s and it took me about two years to find it on vinyl. The best!
It's the only version I've ever played, ever since I bought the 12-inch single when it was released. So it's the only one I really know.
Una versión única solo conocedores de lo que es música para deleitar tus sentidos y oidos
да этож psytrance как не иначе...браво Маэстро!!!
The perfect song to play when starting a road trip
Love Depeche Mode, great 80s band

I was born on route 66 in Kingman Arizona. Andy Divine Avenue is part of route 66 that runs through town. Kingman is mentioned in the lyrics!
Hands down best band ever!!!!!!-😍

Thanks for keeping this great version of this great song alive. My bud and I drove the Kingman-to-Seligman segment, and this was the soundtrack.
One of the greatest bands all time a string of hits in the 80s and early 90s very deep and dark those days I wore only black clothes
AWESOME how a British band does a great job of an American Cassic like this. - the route 66 part that is.
Awesome!!!! You can,t listen to this mix without dancing....🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
but I just did
dancing is so overrated
Everytime YOU have to dance! Woohoo😊
Love this version. It actually inspired me to get my kicks on route 66😂. Well at least from Amarillo to Vegas. Awesome trip. I hope to take the WHOLE route before I die🎉

Electronic Opened For Them, I Was There As Well.
Do you remember the upper deck dumping their drinks on everyone below?
College. We thought we knew everything, we didn’t. But one thing we got right - Depeche Mode rules!
КАК ВСЕГДА БРАВИСИМО РАД СЛЫШАТЬ ЭТОТ БАРХАТНЫЙ ГОЛОС.🔥✌️✌️🥳
Geiler Mix, erinnert mich zurück an die World Violation Tour.

I took this 12" single from a club I was DJing at in Newport Beach in the late 80's. Great mix!!

Thank you so much for posting this. I looked for years to find it after I heard it in a club one night...
@nation105 thank you! i remember a bunch of talking at the beginning like announcers from classic gameshows announcing stuff. i'll look into it!!
december 19 2019. Rather not be behind the wheel 30 years later
Drove through Hell, Texas once on 666...hot son-of-a-bitch in that trap.
Te amamos depeche Mode.
