Phil. I was at Churchfields 63-68 . I remember them building the Threepenny Bit and building the Four in Hand. Bryan Robson run the sunday football team there. I played against them quite a few times. As you walked along towards 'The Pound' on the right on the corner of Vale St was the school tuck shop. They use to say of the Ring o' Bells, it's where they sell beer by the pound. The Red Lion pub on the opposite side of All Saints Way was at one time run by ex-Albion player Steve Lynex who was a former pupil at Churchfields.
@@MrGabb61 Many thanks for the info - I did forget to mention that now disappeared shop on the corner of Vale Street, I went in there many a time. I also remember a major bon fire incident at the Red Lion
Nice to see they are now looking after the graveyard. My great nan is buried there, which is a private owned graveyard. It was always in a very unkept condition and was a very weedy place, even though it was very expensive to get buried there. The council graveyard, round the corner was always kept better. Nice to see it has improved over the years.
As an old pupil of Churchfield - second intake 1956, I cannot get my bearings, so different, my Gran lived just along from the "Ring O Bells". My Dad used to say you could get a pint by the pound. I have lived in Australia now for 57yrs, been back three times, last time in 1991 when I took photo's of the school - lucky me.
The pharmacy was a ladies hair dressers as it was my mates wife who owned it or she was the manager of it. one or the other anyway. i remember the threepenny bit chippy very well. Never knew west brom was so famous. ive lived here all my life i,m 64 now and the man who sent that famous signal from hms victory is buried there ..well i never
Sorry to say that west brom is no longer the same, they got rid of schools because us English weren't having as many kids, now look at us, to many fighting for places and they are crap schools, I weep at what has became of this green and pleasant land
It's been a while since I travelled by the church at night pleased to hear the cross lights again! I have to rely on comments, like yourself, to put me right. Thanks for the info

@@awalkwithphil . I think Steve left after that night, was he prosecuted or something?
@@MrGabb61 He was fined £3,000 by magistrates at West Bromwich after admitting failing to ensure public safety
@@MrGabb61 I was also at Churchfields from 63-68, I was in Britten. I thought it was a brilliant school at the time.

The council do seem very lax of late, hopefully they will now continue to look after the place with dignity

Yes that is probably correct, these earlier videos need some revisiting, thanks for the comment
