Thanks for your honest evaluation. I just passed both Levels 1 and Levels 2 for the 4th time: 2016, 2018, 2021, 2024. Each time I used the free training programs. I didn't find them boring. I did learn some things. Level 2 training reminded me of Google Lit Trips which I used years ago. I will use Lit Trips this coming year. They have been updated. The tests have definitely been dumbed down. In June 2021 I had to actually use the tools to show competency. Level 2 took the full 3 hours in 2021. This year I finished Level 2 in 1:23. This year both tests were exclusively multiple choice. Some questions were obvious. I like to keep my certification up to date and have it on my email signature. I learned some useful things. I am actually disappointed that it is so dumbed down and just multiple choice.
Thanks for reminding me John. With all that has happened with May this past week, I was wondering whether it is all worth it. Do ❤ the community and everyone in that circle of friends!
Thank you for this video. I have found that when the tasks were dropped from the exam, it is now less meaningful. To me, the exam now assesses if you can Google search for the correct information, rather than being an assessment of how well can you use the tools in an educational environment. I have been tasked to investigate alternative certifications that are more of an assessment of Google skills. Does anyone have any insights?
I can't recommend any alternate certifications. For better or worse the level 1 and level 2 certifications have the backing of Google itself. That's tough to compete with.
My school placed a lot of emphasis on these during the pandemic as we were online... But now we don't really see the effectiveness of doing this. Unfortunately, an overwhelming amount of teachers failed level 1 the first time around and the majority failed level 2. I was one of the very few who passed both 1 & 2 on the first attempt... And I'm sure I could still pass, as I use Google apps daily... Unless this was a job requirement or there was an economic stimulus then I'd say it's worth it, but otherwise, there's no point...
Like many things, you only get out of it what you put into it. If it was a required certification that people didn't see value in, it probably wasn't a good use of time and energy. I am glad that Google has maintained the difficulty of the certification. You really do need to be an effective user in order to pass the exam. A lot of other corporate "certification" courses are pretty silly; just a form and a certificate.
Hi John. I don't find the training the issue, it is the exam itself. It doesn't test the relevant skills. We need a training programme that actually focusses on the skills teachers need (recognising these are different for different ages), and then have an assessment process that actually demonstrates that knowledge. The fact you can pass these exams with no prep shows they have no real value. You just need to know how to read and Google.

I consider our friendship one of the connections that wouldn't have happened without the certification program! ❤️🙏
Thanks for describing what Google certification is and what it can do for me! Really appreciated your frank perspectives.
Glad it was helpful!
Great orientations

I liked the skills-based exam better, but even the MC exam requires a good deal of knowledge about the core google products.
There are also a lot of GEG communities around the world who can help you
Absolutely! Which one are you in?
