These two pure soul just want to live happily without involving themselves in the complicated martial art world. Ah xiang death brings a huge blow to Wen kexing bcs ah xiang is the reason why he still have some humanity in him despite growing up in the torturous and merciless ghost valley and my heart still hurt till this day.
So I read somewhere that the deaths of Cao Weining and Gu Xiang are necessary for the show to be perfect literally. This show's protagonists are a villain on revenge and retired villain, yet the movie makes us understand the story through their POVs, making them not seem like bad guys. Cao Weining and Gu Xiang represent the good people in the movie- they never did anything wrong their whole life. The show wants to convey the idea that "No one ever actually gets what they deserve." as the two bad guys in the show get their happy ending (and we love that ending nonetheless) while the good ones don't. Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu knew they deserved to die and that was their intention and that would make the movie reasonable, but again, the idea above says it all. That's why it was said that their deaths are painful and unfair, but also perfectly essential.

I sort of disagree? Or at least I interpret it differently. Because I think labeling WKX and ZZS as merely "villains" is a massive disservice to them and the characters surrounding them. Like most of the other adults in Word of Honor, they're varying shades of morally gray, chained to the ripple effects of the events prior to the drama proper (the poisoning of Rong Xuan, the fight at Mount Qingya, the conflict over the Glazed Armor). A Xiang and CWN represent a possible fresh start, since they've both escaped being traumatized by the events of the prior generations. BUT their death is a warning: If the people of the martial arts world can't let go of their old greed and grudges, innocent people including the future generations will continue to suffer and no one will have the chance to heal. The premise of their death was literally because CWN's master couldn't accept A Xiang since she was a member of the Ghost Valley.
@@dustrose8101 Yes. They are not exactly Villains. But as compared to Cao Weining and Gu Xiang, they are obviously not very kind either. I mean WKX had entire plans to get everyone killed with himself(which I think is Justified. I mean he deserves his revenge. That's what I would've done too) And if we talk abt ZZS, he killed 81(is that the exact no.? I don't remember) members and realised what he was doing only when his Junior Brother and his(Jr. Bro's)Fiancee/GF died because of him.
Yes they wish to change their ways and they did. They stood up for what's right. But we cannot entirely ignore the fact that they have taken a lot of innocent lives also.
You are correct, there are a lot of people who are WAYYY MORE EVIL than them. Like Sect Leader Mo(He Killed My Babies😭😭 and Elder Bro Mo😭😭).
But what CaoXiang's deaths emphasize is the fact that they were good people and yet didn't get their deserved ending while ZZS/WKX were ruthless and yet they are living the kind of life that they wished for(i.e. to be able to spend the rest of their lives w their soulmates)

Heck I watched the drama for Gu Xiang tbh (I'm not really interested in watching Chinese BLs since ik they would be censored (though this one had less restrictions and the flirting was on another level😏😋) and I have to read the book to know what really happened and I am too lazy to do that. @@vrindaabrol9383 Oh I certainly don't deny that CWN and Ah Xiang are more innocent than them, or that ZZS and WKX haven't done and/or planned to do reprehensible stuff. Though ZZS's most prominent wrongdoings was in general assassinating people and at time deceiving them against their will for what he thought was their own good. The original 81 members of the Four Seasons Manor were implied to have been gradually persecuted and picked off by Prince Jin, they weren't killed by ZZS (though you'd be hard pressed to convince HIM of that).
I believe mine and OP's interpretation of why they died can coexist, I just believe that its kinda moot to compare whether or not WKX and ZZS """deserve""" their ending compared to Ah Xiang and CWN. IMO both deserve happy endings for different reasons, Ah Xiang and CWN because they literally did nothing wrong and ZZS and WKX because they deserve a chance to properly heal from their trauma. Though it is worth noting that an overarching theme throughout Word of Honor is that innocent people keep suffering due to the ignorance and greed of others in a cycle. Ah Xiang and CWN in their innocence was a chance for the martial arts world to shake off this cycle, since both of them were a new generation relatively unaffected by the aftermath of the conflict with Rong Xuan. And it failed, because some people like Sect Leader Mo won't let the cycle end.
Ah this is so sad... although I knew before the episodes aired that the show would follow their book storyline, there was the smallest part of me hoping that the scriptwriter would change it 😭

I love how they portrayed the death of the couple in the drama.
They also included the part where Cao Wei ning dreamt of waiting in the Naihe Bridge for Gu Xiang ~ but in the novel that was not a dream.
After they died. Cao Wei Ning is really waiting for her. Someone ask him how he died and he said he was killed by his master. And he do not hold any anger towards his master. He is only waiting for his love one. He thought he will be waiting for 50 to 60yrs. But Gu Xiang appreared shortly and they are reunited. They headed to be reincarnated. (They see each other to be separated again. Damn) They must take the Meng po soup to erase their past memories and live a good life. Knowing their love story, someone give them a red bracelet/thread or something (in the drama Wenkexing gave them one). This bracelet will let them see each other again even in next life. So they got reincarnated into a good family, when they were born both of them have a red mark on their wrist. Since their parents are acquianted they knew that these two are meant to be. Thus arranging marriage for them. They get married at 18. So yeahhhh HAPPY ENDING FOR THIS CP 💕

In the original book, Ah Xiang and Cao Weining were given a red thread bracelet and live their next life happily. In Chinese culture, all people will go to ‘hell’(more likely an underneath world) after death and drink a bowl of soup to forget all the things. Then they will become baby again and experience a new life. And the people who are tied by red lines will eventually become couple in the end. So in the original book, it actually described a little bit of their next life. They know each other since born and get married in the end. If you can still remember the dream Cao Weiming experienced, he said after his death, he waited for Ah Xiang at the gate of ‘hell’ and expected Ah Xiang to be old and maybe can not remember him. But it turns out to be Ah Xiang was still at her 17. It is also in the original book.
To alleviate the pain, let me offer some interesting facts about these two actors: the girl, Zhou Ye, is primarily a film actress. She’s in the movie “Better Days” that is nominated for Oscar best foreign language picture this year; the guy, Ma Wenyuan, is primarily a dancer. Some people think he looks a bit like Luhan of Exo from certain angles.

I mean, they sort of gave us a hint too when Sister Xiaoliang was kidnapped by Tao Hong and Lv Liu. Cao Weining woke up and told A'Xiang about his dream where he died and waited at the entrance of the nether world where A'Xiang followed Him Shortly.

High key adore Ah Xiang so much - like even in the last moments she was such a powerful incredible fighter. Really glad they did such a good job with her casting. I was to impatient and I looked online to watch the rest of the show,(I haven't read all of the novel yet) so I had know idea that episode 35 would destroy me and be left off with nothing but a lump of flesh in the corner surrounded by a pool of tears. Not to be dramatic but my jaw dropped and I had endless tears flowing from my eyes and stayed like that for the whole scene.
I knew their end but I still cried like a baby when the scene came... And then I went to read the extra 3x to calm my heart...

i can count on one hand the amount of times i’ve cried in my life, their ending was one of them 😭
I never read the novel so I have no idea if this is how it went in it, but I had just such a strong sense of foreboding in my gut when Cao Weining's shifu reached for him. God, neither of them deserved that ending, or the sorrow caused by the fucking hate that lived in that old fuckwit's heart. They were so happy and that moment on Gu Xiang's face where she hadn't processed what had happened yet. I tell you, I think that's the only time watching a show where I fully and wholeheartedly hated a character so much that I wanted to rip them to shreds. That I wanted to claw myself into a universe and tear someone's heart out and eat it raw. The show did a really good job in that respect though, even though it hurts. I really felt all the anger and pain that Gu Xiang felt, that murderous rage and her last wish being for Wen Kexing to kill him.
